Pool Players day jobs (No Doctors?)

Yes, I am.

I have met others. I have met a couple others on this forum who simply haven't said that they are doctors in the open forum.

Doctors are engaged in very busy careers. Typically we work something on the order of 65-70 hours a week. So not a lot of time for recreation.

But we are real people and do things, like play pool...like anybody else.

I try to play a few hours a week. But often go a couple weeks without playing. I have a family, and I am a volunteer in an organization that demands a lot of my time and focus.

I am able to be here on the forum because 80% of my work is online. I sit here with multiple screens and I always have AZB open on one of them.

Right now I am in a conference with doctors in the Midwest by Skype. Essentially I m multitasking. I type in between talking and listening.

I just got through presenting a CT scan....Sometimes I am typing a post for an hour. Four or five words as a time.

So far, I think I have been typing this post for over two hours....

Haha, you're talking about Cardiac Kid, aka Lyn. Great guy, not a Dr. as far as I can tell. I'm pretty sure his nickname came from the fact that someone is going to have a heart attack every time they play him. Lyn can play up to, or down to absolutely anyone, and has probably been in more close sets through his lifetime than he would care to count. I'm sure he will chime in on this thread though at some point in the near future.
 
I knew an old dr who played everyday at lunch and I also know a surgeron he’s an avid player. Swears up and down a good pool player has the hands of a surgeon. Thinks highly of the game. How’s that for perspective.

There was a cardiac surgeon who played professional 14.1 pool back in the 70's and 80's. I believe his name was Chester Osborne.

Thanks, probably remembering things a bit off I thought he posted once about being a doctor.

Lynn used to play at Classic in Rochester years ago.
There was a player there everybody called Doc...I talked to him for a while...
....he was a real doctor.
...I told him one day that I knew he was a doctor...but he had the physical confidence of
a boxer.....he told me I had a keen eye...he used to be a boxer, quit, went back to school.

I guess the question I have is whether or not you meant physicians.

There are PhDs and professional doctorates of all sorts. Even lawyers in the US get a Juris Doctor degree, but nobody calls them Doctor, LOL! There is such a thing as a PhD in law though, beyond the JD. My sister went to Stanford for a JD, then went on for a PhD in law.

The last time I saw an Optometrist for glasses, when he found out what I do he asked me if I could help him become a "real doctor", not kidding. His words. And he is a "Doctor of Optometry".

According to Lyn, the nickname was given him by Florence E. Fuller, now deceased, whose room, The Pocket Billiard Lounge in Binghamton, NY used to host the New York State 9 Ball Championship. I forget the details, though.

Lyn still does, or at least did play there before I moved out of the area last January. It's now East Ridge Billiards, owned and run by Chris Braiman. Lyn helps out a ton around there and seems to be keeping himself busy and out of trouble (for the most part :-P )

Interesting story! I see the "JOSS" photo in your signature line and could never quite figure out what it was made of. I thought it might be cigarette butts, but I guess not!

Yeah, that is a very close-up shot of my1970's block letter Joss logo. Been thinking to change it for something more clear. I have had the cue since 1985, she's my baby. :smile:
