I have been playing one pocket with the same guy for 6 sessions now.
We only play for $5 a game, his choice.
I have won all 6 sessions 3 or 4 games ahead.
Yesterday I won 10 games.
I asked him considering he has never won a session why he didn't ask for a spot.
He said in the past our games have been very close but today I ran 8 and out once and six and out twice and most of the games were not close.
I feel like i'm stealing even for such a small bet.
I just dont feel right doing this, and I dont need the money.
He's a real nice guy, never complains,a real gentleman to play with.
What do i do?
Refuse to play unless he takes some kind of spot?
In 58 years of playing I've never been in this situation.

You keep playing him
You did the right thing by offering him a spot
Maybe he feels at $5 a game
Its a cheap lesson

As long as he keeps wanting to play
And you dont get bored with the easy competition

Relax maybe he needs the company. Offer to buy lunch a bear or such.
Maybe he's reeling you in for the BIG ONE.

LOL.

This ^^ If the guy was sweating the the money he would have stopped. My guess is that he enjoys the company and getting a little better in the process.

Yeah I agree. Cheap lessons and good company. Maybe a lunch from time to time as suggested if that would make you feel better.

Maybe he feels you need the money.

Actually I am a little worried about you. First the mighty Lu retired then you stoop to playing 1pkt?

He does play straight pool but thats my best game.
It would be no contest.
And i'm afraid i would insult him if I insisted on giving him a spot.
In the one pocket I just asked why he didn't ask for a spot.

And money is not a concern for him,he has a well paying job and owns some rental properties.
Maybe he does think i'm a charity case.
I am 71 and drive a 2006 car with 193K on it.
But thats by choice not necessity.
I hate car payments.

Maybe he just does not mind? Maybe it's just incidental? Just for fun?

Buy him a lunch and a beer.

I think you are over-thinking this.

5 dollar pool should always be played without a spot.
The lower player gets a cheap lesson, the better player
gets his time and sodas taken care of. It’s a classic win, win.

If you enjoy each other’s company why not?

You shouldn’t feel bad. In fact you should have 5 of
these customers at any one time.

I used to play a dude that legend had made his money from immoral means. Used to beat him very time and he never asked to change the game. I musta won 2-4K over a few years.

I asked him why he never asked to change the game and his answer: what am I supposed to do with this money? I can't put it in the bank.

Your guy is obviously a pimp...yo.

I once told a house man I felt sorry about winning all this guys money playing cards.
He said "If you feel that bad , give it back."
It was at that moment I realized what a hypocrite I was, and how obvious it must have been, to everyone, but me..

I've seen this play out many times. Some guys are happy to take a little spot, to make it competitive. Some, do not want a spot under any circumstances. The latter is just happy to be in the game, even if they're in their seat most of the time, while the other runs out. I've seen plenty of B players absolutely never take a spot against an A player. They like the experience.

It's ok if he's happy, and a lot of them are. I do agree with spotting him a lunch and drink now and then.

All the best,
WW

buy him a copy of tom wirths book or cds
tell him that they are the best and you hope he enjoys them

enjoy the game

Even I wouldn't accept a spot at a 5 dollar bet, and I'll take a spot for almost anything without remorse.
