...

This has happened in other sports in the past. It is up to you to know what you are taking. Just because it's Blood Pressure medication doesn't mean a thing. If its on the list of banned substances, there is a reason. We don't know the reason. But that is the reality. Hope he bounces back and can play next time.

Why is everyone making a judgment on only hearing one side of the story???

The two sides are telling the same story. WADA says Mario failed a drug test, and Mario admits to having taken the medications that led to the failed test.

I disagree with a previous poster who stated the US has a 0% greater chance of winning with Europe's line-up change. I look forward to watching Kazakis shoot with a time clock. I've watched him play a bit and it's mind-numbingly sloooo.... zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

If he took speed you wouldn't even know it unless you had watched him play previously.

Mario might as well go on a cocaine bender now, so he can stop slamming pizza and donuts into his pie hole. He looks like he is on the same diet as Buddy Hall and Kid Delicious.

Yeah, I know I feel "robbed" when someone beats me that took BP medicine. All those old guys that beat me were cheaters....and all this time "I coulda been a contender. I coulda been somebody, instead of a bum, which is what I am, let's face it " :)

There are many, many people who must take opioids, downers, tranks, speed, etc for a medical condition that no other treatment will help as effectively - but unless they are stupid they already know they are skirting WADA drug rules, and it would be foolish to enter and expect to not be caught.

Several people have been busted while claiming their drugs were necessary and prescribed medicine. While that may be true for them, the drug did not get banned because it helped people, it got banned because it produced effects that gave an advantage to those taking it compared to those who were not taking it. So the "it's blood pressure medicine and I might die without it" defense won't wash in WADA-monitored events - it just means you should not compete in WADA sports unless you want to get busted for banned drug use.

Lance's record at the Tour de France gets a bad rap. Lance did more for getting drugs out of cycling than a hundred people in the anti-doping agencies. He did it by being so successful and then getting caught.

He competed against some of the best drug and blood cheats in cycling history and beat them all at their own game. Had he not tried for a comeback after testing improved, then been caught red-handed, he might still be proclaiming innocence. Even guys that came after him are still trying to cheat, some with more success than others.

Good post. Lance still has net worth at least $50 million. Settled some lawsuit in low millions and still laughing to the bank. https://www.dailystar.co.uk/news/latest-news/697395/Lance-Armstrong-net-worth-2018-how-much
He must be the richest sports cheat ever.

The whole "sport" of cycling is rotten to it's core. It's amazing to me that people still watch it.

As for Mario He, he made a mistake and is going to pay for it. I believe that he didn't try to cheat. His suspension is an unfortunate consequence of the rotten cheaters undermining the sport. I hope he comes back stronger, I'll cheer for him if he does.

Since many people were interested in this case, here is how this all ended, actually the ruling was done early December. (again, I try to translate as good as I can):
------
Accusation of active doping not been proven...

Today the provisional decision of the ÖADR( Austrian Anti Doping Lawcommittee) has been published.
The detailed explanation of the ÖADR clearly states, that there is no proof that Mario He has acted intentionally or could be accused of gross carelessness. He also hasn`t deliberately used this medication to enhance his performance.

Because this was the first time the athlete has been tested positively "and such thing can happen even to a careful person" the comittee rules this case as a minor carelessness.
But this doesn`t release a top-athlete from his duty to take care about the substances he supplies to his body and if he changes his medication he has to check it separately for every case. -Mario He has, because of his doctor`s advice, changed his medication and ,because of a similarity in name to his high blood pressure medication, hasn`t made a new medication check-

Because of his cooperation with NADA Austria, because he never contradicted the use of medication at the time of testing on the 10th of October 2018 and because of the reasons stated above- following the CAS judgement ITF vs. Cilic 2013- a standard ban of 4 month was inflicted.
Right after the accusation was made public, Mario He has stopped his tournament activity and because of this circumstances this period of time has been credited to his sentence and the athlete is free to participate again in any competition starting 10.02.2019.

It has to be pointed out, that this is a provisional decision of the ÖADR and all parties involved have an opposition period of 4 weeks.

So it looks like Mario got off with a slap on the wrist.

I'm glad to see this. Mario is a good guy, an excellent player, and a welcome addition to any tournament he participates in.

And given European convention for date format, that would be February 10th, 2019, yes?

Freddie <~~~ 4 months turns to 12 by new math

As the 2018 Mosconi Cup results are now history, it's interesting to wonder if Mario's presence on Team Europe would have made a difference, considering how poorly Kazakis played.

This is, of course, pure speculation on my part, but I doubt that Mario could have done worse than Alex. This is in no way to demean Alex...but his MC performance was not the same Kazakis that I've seen during this past year.
