On the contrary. If the story is true, it's everyone that owns a Sly cue that overpaid! Sounds to me like Harris is a true craftsman who can actually BUILD a cue, rather than assemble parts. He also sounds a bit eccentric. All my friends are eccentric, as am I. Life is boring without some spice, lol. I'd be proud to play with a Harris cue, laughing at the idiots who paid double for cues with some assemblers name on them.

I looked through some of Harris's work and was impressed, seems you could get a lot of cue for the $.

Someone using a Davis blank, as many have mentioned the cuebuilder should notify the customer about the use of a Davis blank, Davis himself shouldn't have to chime in thqt it was his blank used, the cuemaker should. Was Harris wrong for what he did in your opinion? Who knows if this story will ever have something definitive other than those texts posted by Pat.

From what I've read, I wouldnt say Harris did anything wrong.
It's not his responsibility to inform anybody, its Sly's

If somebody asked Harris, he should refer them to Sly first. After that, who knows.

I just bought a really clean, low miles, 1964 Corvair Monza convertible for ten G's and I'm thrilled to get it at that price. New it sold for under $3,000, so go figure.

If you calculate inflation the car has still depreciated significantly as even 2000$ in 64 is equivalent to 16k today.

Sweet! Mine is in comparable condition (Cherry!) with a similar metallic red paint job. Only big difference is mine has the tan interior and a new tan convertible top. It's a four speed on the floor. It runs great with not a rattle or shake anywhere. Clean inside and out. No oil leaks either. 51K original - amazing find!

Agree, the Dufferin house cues may be the best ever made. They make great conversions ala Titlist.

Last paragraph of original post spells it put clearly.....just like original Jerry Franklin SW cues.

"The same underlying principle of collecting still applies........the more scare, the higher
the value & the more rare that a scarce cue or any item is, well, the value goes up more.
Like with everything, supply (cue availability) and demand (serious buyers) dictates price."

You're just repeating what I already refuted... You must have missed that post. Scarcity or rarity do NOT automatically equal value period.

Pretty good considering that he makes cues for Sly, Diveney and others. Searing is also connected somehow to these makers, something about logo or branding.

Pretty good company.

That's what he alleges, but he also made some comments about not being paid, if you think the names mentioned didn't pay, well I have a cue to sell you

So the consensus is that Harris is a great cue maker.

I'm not a cue collector, so my opinion does not count, but here it is, anyway:
If a person can make an elaborate cue up to a standard that another maker can only make with simpler designs, then (the first) person is a better cuemaker. But who knows about those collectors, man. People collect all kinds of garbage, for all sorts of reasons, and value is highly subjective.

Personally, if I had the choice now, between a Harris and a Sly, there is no doubt which I'd pick, and it would not depend on the estimation of others (collectors) who seem to value other things than I do personally. Your milage may vary.

DO NOT EVEN BEGIN TO INCLUDE SEARING! He had nothing to do with any of this. That was an old issue with Sly using Searing's logo. Searing even wrote code for Sly, so he could have his own logo. Sly wasn't even about to change until the membership here jumped him for it. Searing is in another class when it comes to these guys - not even the same sport, if you follow me.

In my own research, while an eccentric person, Harris did build a nice cue. The price, to me, seemed too good to be true. As someone else stated, your mileage may vary. I didn't order one, and now have no intention to buy one second-hand. I'll never own a Sly. He has a history of "shady" practices, including his responses to this issue (he even states on his Facebook "slander will be forwarded to his business attorney - LOL, good luck with that), and this issue being the icing on the cake. I have no idea which pieces Pat did, or didn't buy.

Funny to think that the Corvair launched Ralph Nader's career, "Unsafe at Any Speed", and it is a tank put up beside most cars today! Don't know where his head was at but I saw a customer hit a stopped car at the end of the line at a redlight. The Corvair was going 85 and he walked away from the wreck! How many of today's cars could stand such a test?

Hu

Hu, 2500 pounds is not "heavy". Todays cars are just as heavy as the "old" cars. The difference is air bags, crumple zones, a new Toyota Corrolla is heavier than a Corvair Monza, and faster :)

And if that guy hit something doing 85mph, he'd be toast. The car would be toast. And what ever he hit would be toast. So, i'm sure he hit something at 40, and the story grew from there ;)

The new cars are MUCH safer than old cars, it's not even close. Oh, and something else, the new cars are WAY faster too. Oh, the olds ones looked better, most of them, but there are some new ones that look damn good too :)

But folks don't walk away from 85mph crashes, unless they are in NASCAR :) lol

It was just a echo for the deaf minded such as yourself........you truly are genuinely ignorant....Nuf Ced!

Gazing into the mirror again Matt?....nothing new there... LOL

Edit for NYE sake...lol:

Matt, in your initial post using scarcity (supply) loosely as a main reason for value was your mistake. DEMAND and only that dictates value. There can be a high supply yet still heavy demand keeping the cost up so scarcity can be irrelevant. On the other hand the quality of an item drives demand much more so that it's rarity.
