Oops Tom caught me woofing
Not only that but I think I had the cue ball closer to the corner pocket
where the bank was easier
You just got removed from my possible hustle list , you don't let your pride cause you to make a bad bet.

VP4 agrees.I tried the shot on a GC with year-old cloth. I played it with left draw to bank the back ball to my pocket. My main worry before I shot it was that the front ball would not get back across the table to act as a shape/blocker ball.
The shot worked. The two main problems are that the cue ball can be drawn off the two balls straight into the side pocket on my side of the table and that the front ball might bank into that side pocket making it a possible shot for my opponent and removing its blocking/position value.
If you cannot consistently bank the back ball to leave it within a diamond of your pocket (if you miss it), you should probably shoot some other shot.
GREAT AMERICAN ONE POCKET CHALLENGE
if you dont like the bank on the 5
whats wrong with this???

if your pocket is where you are standing
i would come off the ball on the spot
banking it to my side
let the cue ball go to the head rail and back to the foot rail (either straight back or off the side rail on the way down )
might need alittle right english
now i have both balls in play and the front ball on my side as a threat
he cant shoot the 2 railer or one railer because of the threat of the other ball
he could but the other ball makes it a more pressure shot

I think what keeps that from being a great choice is that you are going 17' to stop in a 12" landing spot.
Agreed, common shot...as is brushing the back ball and spinning cb to foot rail, so frequency of execution is about equal...leaving distance as the main distinguishing factor of the cb end of things.actually the back ball is almost 24" from the foot rail
and any where behind it is ok.
its common for one pocket players to go up and down the table with control over the cue ball or object ball OR BOTH
think one rail banks from the stack area that are hit at pocket speed
in the end game your opponent may have a ball in the kitchen on his side you are near the foot rail
now you have to go 8 feet just to hit his ball
its common to cross it over and come back to the foot rail

While WWYDs can be fun, as they spin out, you often get shot proposals that the author has neither the skill or cojones to shoot in a live fire situation.
Also, in real life you only get one whack at the shot. You don’t get to experiment nor shoot the shot multiple times.

one and done
The first two times I tried the "bank the back ball, stick the cue ball on the head rail and block with the front ball" it worked fine. It wasn't until the third and fourth tries that the problems started showing up.... Also, in real life you only get one whack at the shot. Thank you for stating the obvious.
Wwyd are helpfull because they show differant options. If one should desire to research these options , one could determine if said option is indeed a viable option. It is said Pros dont shoot a shot until they make it . They shoot the shot until they always make it.

This is the shot I was talking about, thinning the back ball to send it over
to your hole.. it may not go, but it'll put the pressure on... front ball goes
downtable, whitey with luck gets to the end rail.
I shot it a number of times and got safe with the back ball near my hole.
I tried banking the front ball... pretty much sold out, as that's letting whitey loose
and leaving a bank. $.02
