Siming Chen vs Donny Mills

He meant in straight pool.

Watching Jasmine just stink up the WPBA stream (but win her match), I think I'd bet on Siming to beat her in 14-1 right now.

Quit the hysterics. You are engaging in gender propaganda. Siming like I've said is no regular female player like those found in America. The Chinese government subsidizes its athletes.

I bet American female pool players would play a lot better if they never needed to work.

The Chinese government does not subsidize all of their athletes. Siming was helped out by the state sports organization but not the federal government.

The difference in my opinion is one of regimented and deep practice more than the amount of time put in. It is very rare to find any American player, male or female, working or not, that puts in the TYPE of practice that Chinese and Taiwanese players do.

All pool players would be better if they adopted better training methods (and had actual coaches who demanded it).

Sports is totally different and you know it. If you don't meet your benchmarks in a communist country or any other for that matter, you are off the team.

Please engage mind.

Did you live in China and were you involved with the billiard industry there? I did for 7 years.

Please stop generalizing about China and sports as pertains to pool. It is really almost nothing like you claim when it comes to pool. Siming is one of the few who did have the opportunity to train with some support by her local government. It's a pretty fair bet that the majority of people and especially the vast majority of government people don't know who she is.

Most pool players in China are on their own and have to rely on industry and private sponsorship for their expenses. What they do have however is a class of professional coaches who will find sponsors for the players they take on in exchange for 10% of winnings. But even that varies from place to place.

I highly doubt she can beat Jasmine never mind John or several other men anytime soon

Your doubt will never translate to a bet of any significance. With very little time, like a week at most, Siming would ROB Jasmine in 14.1. Jasmin might win some games but Siming would dominate.

I could see Siming being the first woman to crack 2-300 balls if she decided to really take on 14.1

The best well that's subjective to what you think as opposed to someone else's opinion is

I'd like the see her try 14-1 at the DCC but to suggest she gives mr 400 a run is laughable at this point don't care who is teaching her simply ain't happening,

He was barking at her awhile ago! With the correct spot, Roy might fly Ray Martin up from Florida to train the stable and play Mr.400 some 14.1

I would love to see it! Lots of people would fly in to see that match!

For practical purposes China is a one party state. Certain places like Hong Kong and Macau are allowed token political plurality.

You said I have no idea at all about Ms. Chen and then you confirm that she was subsidized.

What would " local " government in Los Angeles do for a pool player? Zero.

If fact, go to the city and ask them for a pool room permit and they will act like you are starting a satanic temple.

There are a lot of Chinese as you know. Do you know Ms. Chen well?

I have nothing against Ms. Chen and hope she keeps on winning.

Individual players in the US come from a wide range of support backgrounds, from suburban kids whose parents fly them around the country for tournaments to kids who grow up hanging out and gambling in a pool hall at a young age. We all recognize this and don't feel the need to legitimize some and delegitimize others or focus on these differences

Yet when it comes to finding excellence across the globe, we conjure up images of government-funded robotic regimens or some such crap. This is damaging. And it stems from a harmful desire to identify and emphasize and exaggerate OTHERNESS. This stems from Xenophobia, imo

Pool will advance when we are open in our hearts to embrace the realities that
(1) players everywhere have a wide range of support mechanisms
(2) players from other countries are far more same than different. The nature of their hopes, desires, personal weaknesses, successes and setbacks come from the same menu as do the players we know.

Have you ever read a book on Chinese history or are you just firing from the hip?

That spot would have to be huge for them to even consider it ,,

Well said Mike. Too bad it may go over the head of some on here.
You can have all the support in the world and if you don't have the desire it won't make any difference. A personal example of that - There was a young Chinese kid who's father was a VERY wealthy man that happened to like pool. He sent his young son to America to study at an expensive private school and then continue his education at one of our top colleges. He also enrolled his son in private pool instructions from a very good coach and made arrangement for a pool table to be put in the lobby of the apartment building where his son lived. His son was an excellent student but had no real interest in pool. He would show up for his lesson promptly each week and listen attentively and then practice the drills he was given for an hour each day until his next lesson. In spite of all that he never improved that much. After six months he could barely make a straight in shot. I knew from our conversations where his heart was and it wasn't in pool. I liked the kid and decided to do what I could to help him. He was completely obedient to the wishes of his father, so I sent a message to his dad that I was going on vacation and would contact him when I got back. I never called him again and they never contacted me either. Somehow I think he got the message.

I think it was well stated but at the same time, in the Philippines for example...... I know all to well that tons of young men put food on their parents tables by playing pool.

Now, having said ^^^^^^^^^^, I dont know one single young man (especially teenagers) that play pool to feed their parents, sisters, brothers....etc...etc. here in the US.

When they (phillipinos) GROW UP being use to that type of PRESSURE.....well, when they are over here and are faced with the average player here in the US..... the type player that goes home and gets to eat no matter ... win or lose.....lol........ well.. he/she gets eat alive.

Jay, you above all KNOW THIS!
