Siming Chen vs Donny Mills

I think it was well stated but at the same time, in the Philippines for example...... I know all to well that tons of young men put food on their parents tables by playing pool.

Now, having said ^^^^^^^^^^, I dont know one single young man (especially teenagers) that play pool to feed their parents, sisters, brothers....etc...etc. here in the US.

When they (phillipinos) GROW UP being use to that type of PRESSURE.....well, when they are over here and are faced with the average player here in the US..... the type player that goes home and gets to eat no matter ... win or lose.....lol........ well.. he/she gets eat alive.

Jay, you above all KNOW THIS!

You are absolutely correct. It's no surprise to me that for a long time now Filipino players have been dominating the regular tournaments over here. Only when all the top players worldwide show up (like for a U.S. Open) do they get any real opposition. Shane has been their chief rival for years now and only a few players like Skyler, Thorpe and Jayson have begun to hold their own against the ongoing Filipino invasion.

Mike Page maintains that American players come from a wide range of support mechanisms.

I've seen talented players sleeping in their cars or packing Motel rooms like sardines.

We must be inhabiting parallel universes.

I've seen players work day jobs just to pay $15.00 and hour to practice in the evenings. If you have a day job you ain't going to the finals of any international tournament.

If I bring up some facts, I am labeled xenophobic which is just code for racist which is ridiculous.

Folks that think that there is no difference between men and woman should look to the IT revolution and its domination by men. If men and woman are different I am OK with it.

Funny how unscientific folks are, who engage in faddism.

When I saw Siming Chen play I was quick to acknowledge that she was a great player.

The difference is most American players dont put in the QUALITY practice the others do.

On the other hand, he will spend a few hours shooting the same shot. Is that a drill?

Do you realize not everybody sees things the same, or thinks the same way?

And to answer the part in red, no, its not a drill. Its practicing a shot until it is comfortable/known.

I dont do semantics arguments Bob, sorry.

Funny, the very same people who would accuse your statement as being "racist" are just as "racist", if not more, as well as intolerant, only in the opposite direction...they just can't see it.

I have made the same argument. I agree there is a difference between the effective shenanigans Darren Appleton endorses vs. simply setting the same shot up until you make it 30 times in a row. But the truth is both are “drills” whether you like that word or not.

If you are doing the same thing repeatedly in an effort to improve. That's a drill. Doesn't matter if it's a series or shots or one shot.

No semantics.

Just a drill.

If I pull any one of the dozens of books on pool I have in my library, going back to Mosconi's red book, and look for "drills" I find the same thing over and over -- a sequence of shots involving several balls.

I can't recall a "drill" in any of those books involving one shot.

You make a good point!

The market needs a good book of pool drills!

Or at least a good, free comprehensive website with tons of drills, and other pool related info...heck it would awesome if they could come up with some sort of objective test to measure progress after practicing the drills...that would be super awesome!
