Tony Annigoni suicide

My source was from his niece. She said there is video of him getting off a bus at the bridge and video of him actually jumping. It happened the day before yesterday. I also looked for confirmation from SF news sources but was unable to find anything. I don't think police release that information until next of kin have been notified.

Tony was my friend for decades. He was very smart, extremely talented and a world class pool player who was capable of beating anyone at anytime.

Tony came to my last poolroom at Hollywood Park and jumped on the triple tough front table and ran 88 balls. That remained the highest run ever on that table with four inch pickets. It was a One Pocket table.

I did not talk to Tony for nearly ten years after his debacle at the Peppermill Casino in Reno, but we had reconnected in the last few months, when he called me out of the blue. He sounded like his normal upbeat self and I never saw this coming.

Shocked is the only word I can think of to describe my reaction. I hope you have found peace now Tony.
Thanks for the confirmation Jay. I believe it now. You came up a lot in our conversations. He thought very highly of you. He was so funny and clever. I'm really saddened to hear this. I used to use the swipe method to apply sidespin, so he nicknamed me 'windshield wiper.' I used to chase him around the pool room for that one, even though it was a pretty good description. He bought me a whole salami once just because I was Italian, so then he nick-named me 'Salami.' And like you, Jay, I was really mad at him for the mess in Reno but I really felt that there was nothing malicious intended, but he just didn't have a solution and he handled it badly. I stood up for him in forums when everyone else pounded on him.

He had mentioned to me a few times back then that there was another chapter to Playing Off the Rail that never got published. It sucks that we will never get to read that.
AZHP: Why not contact -- via FB, Twitter, direct phone call, email, etc.) -- David McCumber and see what can be worked out with getting that chapter or a summary of it from Dave himself (if ensuing availability wouldn't violate any years-old contractual or copyright agreements).

I'm sure he'd be able/willing to share all (or most) details about that unpublished chapter if he's legally able to do so.

I loved reading his book and look forward to hearing more about that "no go" chapter.

Did Tony own a bar in Monterey called Bosso’s?

Have had a few drinks there in my day, and the owner at the time went by the same name.

Still no real confirmation. I understand that they have made jumping off of the bridge very hard to accomplish. They still have newspapers both printed and digital in San Francisco that you would think would have some form of confirmation.

If true it is a darn shame a person could get so overwhelmed.

maybe he was pushed off the bridge. he screwed a lot of people that had put trust in him and then lied about it.
or maybe he finally realized how he hurt so many others and got even with himself.
i wont miss him in this world. and for me anyway i dont eulogize the bad just because they are dead.

Those are sad words to write about somebody who is dead, especially when friends and those who did care about Tony are reading this thread about his death.

What kind of POS must you be! To knock a guy that took his life, for what ever reasons. YOU better hope the powers that be have a sense of humor when your day comes!

I hope you got permission to publicize the details. There are very good reasons why they usually are not. ”He passed away” should be enough for people who aren’t in touch with his family personally.

No, not really.

Yes. Here's some info. It opened in early 1998, it seems.

Prior to that Tony was associated with Bluefin Billiards near the Aquarium.

Before that -- if I have my timing straight -- he was a partner with the author Amy Tan in a two-table room in Monterey. I don't remember the name right now.

I knew Tony since the early 1970s. He had an amazing top speed but had patches of missing. He also played pretty good snooker. He was involved in five or six pool halls in the area. At one time his day job was with an electronic equipment rental company.

Go ahead and finish the oration, then, Brutus.

You all did love him once, not without cause:
What cause withholds you then, to mourn for him?
O judgment! thou art fled to brutish beasts,
And men have lost their reason. Bear with me;
My heart is in the coffin there with Caesar,
And I must pause till it come back to me.

You know...Speaking ill of the dead doesn't really hurt the dead person, he can't hear or read anyway, but the people grieving his death shouldn't have to deal with this sort of stuff, especially not so soon after. The circumstances of his death are not sufficiently traumatic for you, you need to add to their worries if they read this?

If someone asks you what you think about a person, some time after their passing, that is one thing, but inserting yourself in a thread where people are dealing with his very recent death to gloat, that is a scumbag move. Lets hope when you pass, that someone you wronged at one time or another doesn't try to drag your reputation through the mud before you're even in the ground. Such talk should be reserved for people who themselves gloated and taunted others who died, like a certain radio show host who laughed at victims of Aids on the radio. He had it coming but got less than he deserved, because the victims of his hateful speech had more class than he did. Maybe they gave some thought to his grieving relatives and friends, too.

I played in a league for several years with Tony (different teams) and took a lesson from him once. Hung out with him several times and traded stories.
I’m very sorry to hear about this. Deeply saddened.

Really?? You got a lot of balls to say something like that here, at this time. Ever hear the term "PLONK"? Don't bother, as of now, welcome to my ignore list. POS

The poster couldn't even spell his name right, and wildly plucked the quote well out of context, likely without realizing that the quote, perhaps, was aimed not only at Caesar but his "critics" as well. They like appearing as if they like the Bard, but managed to actually insult themselves in the process in poetic fashion. Antony's referral to "brutish beasts" (a redundancy that someone like Shakespeare would not suffer without cause) was no accident considering his speech was partly aimed at Brutus.

After all, Brutus is more remembered for his evil betrayal when compared to Caesar. Remember that when casting judgment on someone you think is worthy of condemnation and acting like absolute ass when speaking ill of the departed.
