SVB withdraws from future WPA events

BCA has voted against the bans, and publicly said they were against them.

edit: I also personally emailed the BCA several months ago when the votes were coming up, and he stated to me he was completely against them and would be voting against bans.
Huh. Strange. First i've heard of it. They must not be to too upset otherwise they'd be a bit more vocal. Like i said, they're just another org. kissing WPA ass. BTW, i just scrolled all the news updates i could find on BCA's site and didn't see ONE word about any of this. If you have a link to any statement by them i'd love to read it.

Influencing WPA voting members takes more than marching.

Which federations support the ban and where can they find points of agreement for the future that do not cross red lines.

Asian players changing their governing laws is a dream that no one knows how long it will take to complete.

It is going to be a lifelong war for those votes.

I will be directing BARPA.
Glad to hear barpa

Somebody get ahold of Manny Pacquiao to throw his cliut behind this, maybe a few bucks and host a better tournament the same day in the same area.

It was on one of the "Doggin' It" pool player podcasts last summer/fall when this shit first hit the fan. I believe they had on whoever was in charge of the BCA at the time.

I just checked my emails, I can't find his personal response to me. It might have been a webform not an email.

Sorry I forgot everyone's name now.

I found it. Sounded like nothing but bullshit legal word-salad to me. If he's the BCA vp i really hope the Pres. is sharper. that guy did nothing but dance around the questions.

does this include the International Open?
Great question. It's been sanctioned with the WPA in the past. I don't see it on the WPA Calendar this year. Perhaps it's unsanctioned with the WPA. Also it is a WNT ranking event on the Matchroom schedule. So perhaps it's definitely unsanctioned with the WPA.

This reminds me of the schisms in auto racing a few decades ago.

IRL (Indy Racing League) v ChampCar for control of IndyCar racing.

GrandAm v IMSA for control of sports endurance racing.

In both instances, the warring factions were both hurt by the splits, and continued to be hurt divvying up the audience, sponsorships, and revenue dollars to the detriment of both.

Also in both instances, the sports recovered and strengthened when the reality hit and they agreed to merge forces, after which both IndyCar and sports car facing in the US flourished.

When the pie is already too small, slicing it up isn’t the answer.

Int Open is on the WNT schedule. TS starts 5 days after US Open ends.

Kinda apples-n-oranges. Those splits in autosport were between different racing orgs. This deal is a rules making/sanctioning body vs. a pro pool organization. I see where you're going but WNT vs. WPA is not really the same as CART/URL. A closer analogy would be back in 1980's F1 where the FIA tried to tell the racers/FOCA/Bernie how to run their business. Bernie won and became a billionaire as F1 exploded.

I think the main reason for Pat Fleming to get a WPA sanction was to ensure the players who had a WPA license would not worry about playing. With essentially all of the pro players now ignoring the WPA, that reason has gone away.

The other reason for getting a WPA sanction was for calendar protection. The WPA calendar is no longer interesting, and even when it was, the protection did not always work well.

That makes sense to me. It comes up because these players have all cam forward saying:

In solidarity, we will not participate in any event sanctioned by the WPA for the remainder of 2024 unless these bans are lifted.
We stand together

And so it was curious if the Intl Open was sanctioned and if these players were going to boycott it. But it appears not sanctioned and moot.

The only other US-based tournament that would raise that same question is Turning Stone. That is on the WPA calendar and appears to be sanctioned. Will we see this same deluge of players boycotting Turning Stone because it is WPA sanctioned? Even players that have already signed up? Even a player that's won it more than anyone else and has been advertised as confirmed?

I suspect that Turning Stone might have been sanctioned by the WPA in the same way TS was on the WNT ranking list. That is, I suspect that Mike Zuglan was not in contact with either organization. I guess someone could ask Mike.
