This reminds me of the schisms in auto racing a few decades ago.
IRL (Indy Racing League) v ChampCar for control of IndyCar racing.
GrandAm v IMSA for control of sports endurance racing.
In both instances, the warring factions were both hurt by the splits, and continued to be hurt divvying up the audience, sponsorships, and revenue dollars to the detriment of both.
Also in both instances, the sports recovered and strengthened when the reality hit and they agreed to merge forces, after which both IndyCar and sports car facing in the US flourished.
When the pie is already too small, slicing it up isn’t the answer.
