Why people leave the forum.....

Below is a PM that I received several months ago. The actual forum member will remain anonymous. This very nice poster hasn't been around for quite some time but I thought I would share why some people leave this forum:

Hey Joey,

Just wanted to thank you for your kind words to my thread about "XXXXXX"
I don't know why I get railroaded sometimes on this forum. People can be so mean. I'm just a human being struggling to better himself.

Also, I have a trippy sense of humor that a lot of people don't seem to get.

I guess the "innocent" "shits and giggles" aren't always appreciated....

Great post, Joey. I had to cut back from visiting AZ. There is a forum member who I have never met who I will absolutely slap in the face if I ever meet them. That's how you know it's time to cut back. This place can be brutal.

I've felt the same way easy-e. Some people just leave and don't come back.

For those who say the forums aren't for everyone, is just another way of saying that they don't care what nasty impressions their small-minded, mean-spirited posts create.

Oh well.

BTW, the PM that I posted wasn't from a professional pool player, either.

I'll admit. I do get into a lot of discussions, but even I had to take a break.

The forum has a lot of regulars that just don't quit and I really don't care to read about Snooker or why the For Sale forum sucks.

Passive-aggressive much?

You help peddle crap, claimed to have hustled people and have back-handed remarks, but get bent out of shape over a forum response. Give me a break.

You can call me mean-spirited, but the fact is that i have a low tolerance for bs.

This has always been a problem with this forum. In real life I met many who are aware of AZ, but will never post here again. The anonymity and lack of accountability makes it too easy to troll and attack.

You're cat avatar is ugly. (I even miss-used You're so I can be attacked also :) )

Oh, wait, people on here know my real identity.

I take that back it's a pretty kitty, only exceeded by your own handsomeness and intelligence.

Phew, what was close.

I really don't think "the attacks" have much to do with why people leave the forums. Or at least it's no more of a reason than it was in the past. Well, on 2nd thought that's probably not true. I think we have all been conditioned to have thinner skin due to a variety of societal factors (i.e. anti-bullying, diversity training, stuff like that).

But mainly let's face it -- it's 2015 and there are other ways to communicate. Very few people actually like to carry on conversations via the written word. It's much easier to do just post some cute picture or saying of someone else's on Facebook.

I actually prefer a good AZ thread over anything I've come across on Facebook.

I guess it's one of those different strokes for different folks kind of thing.

I leave a forum, because of crappy content.
I join a forum, because of good content.

AzB is borderline crappy content.

Personally the reason I find myself here less and posting less is just lack of good discussion topics on the main forum.

Sounds like someone I might get along with as I have a distinct sort of dry sarcasm sense of humor!

Bring it son! Oh wait...probably not talking about me :grin-square:.... it can be brutal on newbies for sure.

You can call me mean-spirited, but the fact is that i have a low tolerance for bs.

I have come to widdle through some of it and just don't respond. Other times I call people out...I have tried to cut back on that though and not be as confrontational since I am sure some of my conversations in person would go a lot different (and more smoothly) than on here so I try to remember that.

PS-- I'm still taking 2 balls on the wire in banks once you come to Des Moines ;)

I hear ya 2 pack Dave...weed out the good imo. There some good discussions that go on. The problem with certain types of discussions is that they go into spew mode so quickly...threads like fundamentals, teachers, aiming, etc. There are some great nuggets in there if you can weed out the bad imo...sometimes it may not seem like it is worth it, especially once personal vendettas start taking over.

I know a forum member here that considers going to the big Vegas tournament and meeting AZB members a great opportunity for a beat down.
He's never done it and it's sort of a joke with him................................................

I guess I'm lucky, since I've been haunting the joint, I've only had bad dealings with one person. And haven't had to deal with them again. I'm newer, so maybe things are still nice and shiny. I like browsing the for sale area, and main forum areas. Some of the threads are pointless, but still an amusing read, and others are actually occasionally helpful. I don't get upset by professional (past or present) players vending their wares, so I guess I'm in the minority on that one. And watching a thread implode allows me to indulge my rather pronounced sense of schadenfreude.

That being said, it is the age of the keyboard commando, where you're rarely called to task for running your mouth. Some people are going to get turned off by it and bail, others are going to fight fire with fire, and the rest of us are just gonna roll our eyes at it. Welcome to the internet.

Besides, this is an indoor activity, so anytime I get tired of reading about pool (or snooker, billiards, et al...), I can just go play it instead. Which is way more satisfying.

I come for technical discussion, which has now mostly devolved to constant correction of pseudoinfo. I think this dynamic is changing AzB into a source of questionable technical info.

Its the mods that are the issue. They are the ones that set the tone of a board.

If the standards they require are not enforced equally, then you get the type of forum you have now.

Been there, doing that:rolleyes:

Me too! Ran into another forum member a few weeks ago. Asked me why I cut back my posting. Simple. Too much BS! Period.

Opinions are one thing. Attacks on ones persona are another. When posters begin to attack another posters wife, husband, b/g friend, enough is enough. Haven't got to the point of leaving. Guess I've been fortunate not to be on the receiving end (yet) of some of the worst our forum has to offer. Honestly have seen pretty much the best of what AZ has to offer.
