1000$ fine to Earl Strickland

As usual, a bit of controversy surrounded Strickland’s match, though not in the usual fashion. “I thought I was going to lose it … they came over and fined me a thousand dollars—and that didn’t help my mental attitude—for wearing a shirt that cost a hundred dollars,” Strickland exclaimed, “but that doesn’t have anything to with it. Some of the other players at the last tournament were wearing these pullovers. It’s not a cheap one, but it still doesn’t fit the dress code.

“It’s my own fault for following the other players ‘cause they are idiots when it comes to dressing—they are going to try to abuse the dress code—I knew that—and it’s the same thing. I followed with them and it’s cost me a thousand dollars. That kinda derailed me a little bit. The guy played pretty good, I played bad in the beginning, and then he didn’t make nothing on the break and I shut him out, and that's what great players do.”

I have to give it to Earl though for not bashing the dress code, but instead blaming himself for not following it.

Good thing Earl haven't played and LOST a match yet... :D

Ok, if Earl is gonna get fined a grand for his shirt, Then it seems only fair that Raj Hundal face the same repercussions for his gangsta bandana.

Also, if you look at Day 2's pics, Monica Webb is wearing what appears to be very similar to a long sleeve T-shirt. How is this fair?

Funny you mention Webb, and did you see Gerda and Corr? It looked like Gerda was wearing a gymsuit, and Corr was wearing a tshirt. I'm not the fashion police, but what gives with the ladies?

SP,
Actually, it sounds like he's blaming some other players for setting a bad example for him. Too funny. Earl is NOT the picture of contrition - he's still making excuses; he's just not blaming the usual target. Of course, this left-handed, semi-admission of responsibility is still a step in the right direction (the direction of normalcy).

I wonder if he was dressed like a wild and crazy guy. Must've been that hat that was the violation, lol.

If he was dressed like those wild and crazy guys, he should have been fined a lot more than 1000 dollars.:D

Exactly, a "victim" again. He must have really gotten slapped around a lot as a kid.

Well ... he "sort of" blamed himself for following the other "idiots who don't know how to dress". :)

fashionazism?

Oh, OK. Freedom of religion should prevail.

OK, but can you repeat that when one of the female players goes muslim and wears a burkah to the TV-table?
Let alone the dress of some Shamans, Hare Krishna's or Buddhists.
The only religion that dresses up to code already are the Mormons I guess. Those young preacherboys in Holland always look sharply dressed in stylish black...
IMO dresscode in IPT is very tight. First thing important: the player has to feel comfortable in his/her clothing, allowing the player to give his/her best.
I'd dress in army trousers and polo...
(Am I glad that my level of play is not even close to IPT round two level)

IPT news release

said there were at least 5 dress code violations for a total of $5,000 in fines, so Earl was not the only one that got fined. Who were the others? Did any of the women get fined for not conforming to the dress code?

I know that Souquet wears arm bands to hold his dress shirt cuffs at the right length where they don't interfere with his shooting.

I was at the Sands in Reno about 6 or 7 years ago and while Earl was practicing, he had a crowd of fans listening and watching. I can remember him ranting how the pool players should dress nicer. They shouldn't be allowed to wear sneakers and tennis shoes, or buttonless shirts. They shouldn't wear shirts that aren't meant to be tucked into their pants. "This aint no bowling league".

Looks like most of the ladies are wearing some kind of T-shirts - Allison, Sarah, Jasmin, Gerda, Monica...with a jacket over it when they aren't shooting. Karen and Helena wore some knit tops and other blouses. Ewa and Loree Jon usually wear something sleeveless. Robin, Jackie, Mary and Tammie all dress nicely. Didn't notice what Kelly or Miyuki wore.

And I am always in a suit or something similar with a dress blouse. :D
