John, one word of warning . . .

Never ever play with a moochie and leave it unattended. I was playing with my old one and left it unattended for just a minute while I went to the restroom to um, wash my hands. Before I could get back other people had piled six more on top of it for me to haul off!

LOL. I haven't played with a cue that is <2500 in years. Not trying to brag, just saying every cue i buy i buy to play with as a daily player.

I could never buy a cue and have it sit somewhere. then again, i can't afford more then one nice cue at a time.

I play with my Southwest every time I play pool. It doesn't matter if it's league night (which is about 50% of my pool time nowdays) or a one pocket session.

Now, I've bought some other cues that are less expensive and I don't play with them, they just sit in cases. If I buy more expensive cues some day I'll probably just continue playing with my current Southwest. I've tried other cues and I just keep coming back to this one.
 
If I cannot find a friend I trust to hand him my cue while I hit the head, the Gus takes a piss with me. While I see nothing wrong with a few dings and dirty cortland wrap, I am never leaving that cue unattended in any pool room. That's like leaving a fresh ribeye on the ground in front of dogs and walking away thinking your steak will be there when you get back.

I do that too. People at the bar (non pool players) look at me funny but what are you gonna do?

I awalys take my cue into the head, unless its a good friend who ownes nice cues then I might leave it behind. Like Cory Harper for example his cue is mint so i know he can handle a cue and I trust him, if he had dings in his cue then I wouldnt. Some guy ding cues and others dont.


I wouldnt go anywhere I wouldnt take my best cue, If its too bad for my cue, it sure as hell is to bad for my body to go there.


I play with a Gus most of the time, Recently I have been playing with a black boar just for a change, but I'm a Gus/Barry guy 24/7/365. I can adjust to a different cue pretty fast. I let friends who are players use a Gus I have, I like to see all of Gus's cues get used, thats how Gus wanted it.


I am luckey enough to have alot of top maker custom cues and they all get used with the exception of just a few, when I only had 3 or 4 cues I used what ever cue hit the best, usuially(but not awalys) it was the most expensive cue I owned. Even now if i only had one $12,000 cue I would use it all the time. I break with my cues too, SBV has been crushing the rocks with his cue for ever and its fine. I made a promis to myself in 85, that no matter how bad things got in my life I would awalys have the luxery of a fine cue, to this day I stand by that, my plane jane Tad, or my first SW, both cues i still use every month or 2.

I love to lust over the high end cues. especially the hoppes and buskas, Szams; titlests etc... but IMHO asthetically a cue may be worth $2500 or whatever, but functionally they are no better than a $500 player.

he has played with the same shaft for 15 years(i dont remember how many but a long time) I have looked very closely at the that shaft many many times, for 10-15 minutes a few times going over it super carefully, because he uses it so much I have tried to memorize certain things about it(thats hard to do) and It is just fine, SVB dosnt break hard like hillbilly but still pleanty hard, he also warms up with about 100 breaks everyday on a Break-Rack thing, that shaft gets as much use as any shaft out there and for along time, it does show some wear though. It provers one thing "normal" breaking dosent hurt a cue, breaking like hillbilly might hurt the shaft.
 
If I could afford one I would play with it.................................unless someone wants to donate a SW to me ,I would still play with it..

Yes - most definately.

That is not to say that I have one shaft I never used that was in new or "like new" condition, and a second lightly used shaft. And - one heavily used OB-1.
 
When I first got back into pool 5 or six years ago, I was surprised by the number of players average and above playing with cues worth at least $2500 . Out here, everybody seems to play with Gina's, Tad's, and a lot of other high dollar cues. I thought my Schon was a pretty decent cue, but compared to what I saw, it was a cheapie.

My conclusion was there are pool players who take the game seriously who also appreciate fine cues and are not afraid to pay for them. I like players to ask about my cue and show some interest. It's kind of like owning an exotic car. Does anyone really need one? No. Does anybody want one? Absolutely!

I agree with the folks who contend that if you play well with an expensive cue than you should play with it. My question is if 2 people have the same $2500 cue, one played and one not, what would the price difference actually be? $100, $500, $1000? I don't know but lets assume it's a grand for conversation sake. Now you use this cue for 10 years and you get all that enjoyment for less than 10 bucks a month.
 
Well...

Its a loaded question...it seems that for the top makers (most) the entry level cue is between 15-2500, entry level is a players cue.

Know that a cue can always be refinished...just dont break it over your knee, leave it in the car, lean it on the table...or have a case that it can fall out of.

I think its relative to your income, etc...to a millionaire, a 2000 cue is nothing, bottom of the barrel.

I believe that no cue should sit unplayed...especially something like a 4 point hoppe or something like that, it is a players cue.
