14.1 Running a 100 without Qball touching a rail?

If you play a break shot and just one object ball ends up on or close a rail, it's over. Even a single rack would be quite a feat, 2 would require a lot of luck as well, more than that would be near impossible imo.

No Way

Who was the late great straight pool player that could run over 100 balls without the Qball ever touching a rail, i forgot who supposely was the player that could do this unbelieveable feat, it just sounds impossiable to me, if it is true it would be awesom if it was recorded for us to watch!

Totally not true.

Here is a Link that I run two racks and the 2nd rack I run it without the cue ball touching a rail. Once is a blue moon a rack comes up like that, having a chance to do it & I will give it a try. This time, I was lucky that I was taping my practice and caught it.

Were you trying not to touch a rail in the 2nd rack, either way that was some great shooting, you make it look easy straight Man, what is your high run playing 14.1, i would bet its pretty darn high!

Yes

Yes, right after the break shot, I knew that it could be done b/c no balls were touching a rail. I have done it a few times but not often.
My high run is 127. If you click on the video Link. At the top of the page, top of the video there are other videos that I have. If it does not show, then down to the lower right of the page there are other Videos to click on. I have a few Instructional ones. You might like. If you want to ask questions about 14.1, it is best to go to the 14.1 Forum. There are a ton of good players over there that are willing to answer questions and help players with their game.

Not necessarily. When the old-time players played "poison cushion", they would position themselves for bank shape to keep the cueball in play when object balls were close to, or on, the rail. Interesting game when played at the top levels.

You can be sure it's never been done.

I believe I did read somewhere that Greenleaf once had a run in the sixties where he sent the CB to the rail only twice. That's hard enough to believe as it is; he had one tournament where he AVERAGED 62.5 balls an inning, and another in which it was said he missed two called balls the whole event. But you can safely wager that a 100-ball run without sending the CB to a rail has never been done - nor will it ever be. GF

I actually did this 2 years ago but the only problem is that bigfoot forgot to turn on the camera!!! What a piece of Ape shit that guy was. He ran off into a a misty mountain side never to be seen again... Sigh.... :(

I think anyone here would give two to one odds or better on any sum against this proposition

Ain't going to happen

It is a "back up the truck" bet.

Although I did not witness it, a source that I consider reputable told me that Harold Worst once ran two consecutive 14.1 racks without the cueball touching a rail. I only saw him play on one occasion, but if anyone could run two racks without a rail being touched, he probably was the guy. A great shotmaker, banker and position player, he played all games well. His early death likely prevented him from breaking many records. As far as a 100-ball run with no rail, good luck on that one.

Dont know if this is who you are thinking of but Johnny Ervolino used to run the 100 balls without cueball hitting a rail. About 14 years ago Johnny stayed with me for 2 months, he really improved my one pocket game. Voodoo Daddy will alo verify watching him run the 100 without cueball hitting the rail. I have met and played ALOT of great players but Ervolino had more knowledge than them all.

Bighurt how would Ervolino go about doing this, he must of hit everything easy and never went into the rack very hard, could you please explain if you remember how he went about doing this!

He would pick them out softly which is how most of the old time players played straight pool. Unlike someone like Thorsten Hohlman who smashes open the rack when he plays his breakout ball. Just different styles i guess you could say. Obviously he couldnt do this everytime but myself and Voodoo have seen him do it. I was more interested at the time learning one pocket which he showed me ALOT but looking back I wish i would have paid more attention to the straight pool. Being from south Florida staright pool is not very big down here so I never really played it. Johnny had alot of finesse and imagination.

I heard that Ervolino would sometimes bank balls for this proposition when no normal path was available. I had never heard of him doing runs of a hundred or more -- the proposition was for a single rack.
