That was actually Grady's tournament. Entry fee was $1100 and last place was $1000. Then all the pool players in the casino had at least $1000 on them. It had nothing to do with promoting a big prize pool. It had everything to do with making the casino happy.

at the very least cut them in on the back end...something, and give them something in writing up front to that effect

Is it just me or does anyone else agree that it looks dorky to see top level players digging for quarters between games? I mean really, can't they do a green fee at these things or just realize they'll take in money having the event at their facility. I couldn't believe they were doing it at the USBTC too. Just seems strange.
 
Will the balls in each game have to be 1 through 9? When the game ends early on the break or with a combo and coins are used, any nine balls will work.

Grady may have done a tournament like that but what I am talking about was over 30 years ago. I think the name Mike Battle was attached to the tournament. It was also done in NJ some years ago. They advertised something like $50,000.00 with everyone involved knowing the prize fund was fake. The winner would actually get whatever depending on the success of the tournament. It was done by some short lived players org. looking to get some attention. The players themselves ran the event, the advertised money meant nothing.

I agree. It's cheesy. Just open the tables and make the loser of the set pay for the "time" which is the amount of games played.

In China every tournament match for tournaments held in pool rooms is loser pays time. This means that it's clear and you only pay twice. Only one person can get out of paying time and that's the person who goes undefeated which is how it should be.

I personally can't stand tournaments which make you jack quarters in every set. The better you do in the event the more you pay which seems like a punishment. especially if you go three or four rounds and don't make it into the money.

Or

Simply charge everyone in the tournament the amount it would cost to lose two sets hill/hill and leave the tables open. But I like loser pays much better because it doesn't penalize the winner, it's extra incentive and EVERYONE will pay any way but it's only when they finally lose.

I find that to be much more fair and respectful.

Mikey M. putting this on didn't add money because he was committed to getting a full field - meaning if he was short a player or two, he would gather one up himself to put in. If the field is full, not sure if anything else would be done for the players.

SVB and Appleton (I think) are playing in the Accustats Invitational the same weekend.

Kevin Cheng went back to Taiwan.

p.s. Oscar offered to play Sky a set of 8 ball the bar table and the only response thus far has been crickets chirping.

p.s.s. What will the chop/saver be in the finals?

p.s.s.s. JB should swing back around and come out for this event. The winner could use a new case. :smile:

Wait a white guy doesn't want to play a mexican some bar table 8-ball? That never happens does it?

I don't want to be Debbie Downer but I just can't see this thing being full for real anything besides the morning of. Pool players can't put money aside for something 10 days away...no shot.

Unrelated, I'd like to see Jesse play well. He's one of 10 people I actually enjoy watching.
 
Has Jesse Bowman been hitting balls in recent times? I like him on this bar box event. Hope he does well.

I believe Jesse has been hitting a few balls. He lives a few miles from me, his father Dwaine and brother Jamey are like family to me. Without a doubt he will be in the top 3, even if he doesnt bring his A game. Im looking forward to watching him, as well as the other monster players in this event!

My other half, who is a bar table expert, says Jesse Bowman is the best bar table player he's seen -- aside from himself, of course. :D
 
Since there isn't any added money, the establishment should open the tables and not charge table time. The owners are getting the recognition and potential extra business that should help their bottom line.
