1990s 9-ball McCready vs. Paez

Interesting how different the game has changed in 30+ years.
Talcom on the cloth, animated players, lots of missed shape and shots.
Commentators so sure of themselves then back pedaling.
Tons of body movement at the point of contact and just after.
Lots of fun watching these older matches. I love the different octaves Buddy's voice achieves when he talks and laughs at the same time.

Thanks for the link Bob!

that's why pool lasted so long as it was fun to watch and participate. long gone are those days. as its being replaced by robot players with no personality but solely playing ability.

viewing of pool has basically died off to only the dedicated players and very little general public.
solely the fault or inability of the promoters.

Honestly -- we may be over complicating things. I love these old matches as much as anybody, but a large part of what makes them interesting is probably the fact that they just aren't as good as today's players. This makes the racks more interesting. Couple that with the more "informal"commentary, and the pool is just more relatable to us players.

The players and the game were destined for a more professional product. Nothing wrong with enjoying the old and the new.

they weren't really very professional. they were drunk doing drugs or busted out and not had any sleep.

playing tournaments was not high on the list of making money for most. it was the gambling. and most of those you see playing badly on a stream could shoot lights out when needed or they were in shape for it.

the new breed lives to win tournaments and stays ready and trains so yes they are better able to win.

how much of this shot was intentional?

For example, for pro like him, is he 50% confident on the pot and 100% on the safe if he missed?

I am 100% I wouldn't have seen this shot.
