greats 14-1 adicts!

Yuck. I currently stand at 59 this year. So after a few months of all-9ball-and-no-straightpool-makes-jack-a-dull-boy, I played an hour, ran 58. Next session I played for an hour and a half, ran 55 and missed a long break shot and soon after I ran 57 and missed because of a massive skid on a thin cut on an almost open table. I even played a touch of outside english to avoid the skid... sigh. I feel that the century is coming, but somehow the runs end too soon.

Just wanted to vent a bit, now back to the practice table :) No updating for me required... grrr.

In the main forum, they are reporting that John Schmidt ran a 403 on Saturday... I guess he is now going to be called Mr. 403 ! lol... This means that he will probably take the Azbilliards Straight Pool High Run title 2 years in a row. He definitely should get a plaque or something... 2 Az Straight Pool high run titles, and a US Open... What a hack this guy turned out to be! :D :D :D

I'm off the bottom (for now...)

YES!

Last night I managed a fairly pretty (for me) 17. I made position on the break ball twice, and broke the pack perfectly both times. The second time, I had to manufacture a break ball toward the end of the run! That's only the second time in my life I've ever successfully manufactured a break ball AND got position on it... The run ended by bobbling a fairly easy shot (like many of my "runs").

I couldn't help but post it - I'm jazzed about straight pool right now.

That's just as good as Johns 403 to me jondrums, the whole point of this list is to get people passionate about 14.1 and beat there own pb. Doesn't matter which end of the list u are, its great u are still trying hard and working to improve, hope u beat it again soon.

Why haven't I read this before? Fascinating stuff!

I know it's about as low as it can get but I played my first ever game of Straight Pool last week & managed to run the 1st rack but messed up on the break ball. So 14 is my starting point, but I'm not going to let it stay there! This game is too good!!:D

I ran a 77 today in a league match. I just started playing straight pool again a couple of weeks ago because of the league. It has literally been a decade since I last played straight pool because no one plays it. They all want to play 9 ball. I love straight pool. I wish it was the "in" game.

so 149 is your all-time high blackjack? congrats.
NOT 150 THOUGH SO THE OTHER GUY CAME BACK AND WON.

..just kidding, I'm an ass. Very nice.

wtf@mister 403. Give this guy a big financial incentive and I bet he'd become mister 600.

Put me down for a new high of 22.

I am just getting to the point were am am getting runs of 10+ regularly.

I do not think I will ever play 9-ball again.

8-ball is still enjoyable, but straight pool is the way to go.

My high run is 212.

Of any player currently out there today, I believe that John Schmidt has the ability to get to 600+, as do Thorsten Hohmann, Ralf Souquet, and this hack in Germany named Thomas Engert that ran a 492 a few years ago (he ran 492 on extremely tough equipment).

Most of my recent high runs have just been run in practice - some days I get up into triple didgits, some days I am like everybody else and can't put together much more than 30 or so. Yesterday I met with Az member "Bluesteel" and we played some 14.1 on an 8 footer with EXTREMELY slow slow slow cloth - I was able to put together a 40 something - only because of the big side pockets. I haven't been playing for the last week or so because of a bad case of the flu, plus a hectic instruction schedule.

Today I'll be back on a big table and hopefully I can move the balls a little better on the faster cloth.

Danny Harriman ran a 280 - Scottster says they caught this one on tape.

Congrats to Danny!

i look at this thread all the time! i know of most of the better players but dont get to play them much anymore since i move from rochester ny to clearwarer fla. i play mostly one pocket now but when i pratice, witch is every day, i play straight pool.
i play a lot with howard vickery and cm lee. i gambled 14.1 with richey richerdson and tony crosby down here but no one plays the game much. when i lived in rochester i played with all the greats, seigel, hubbard, crane, miz, hopkins, cranfield, and all the top players.im 59 now and have been fighting cancer since last oct. i am doing very well even on the chemo. my passion is pool and fishing and i do both every day! i dont let this get me down! anyways....
i was at hamerheads billiards last monday night. it is a new room in holiday fla. on rt 19. a beautiful place with 26 dimond tables. correy duell is the house pro! i just got done playing some 9ball with cuban brian and started playing some straight for pratice. a young kid on the next table was watching and ask to rack the balls for me. i said come on ill play you a game...i broke, he missed and i ran 154. i had a 180 last year but that was before i got sick.
so that is my story, thanks for bareing with me.
i love your forum! you must be very deticated to take on all this for these guys! thanks again and please add me to your list...pat howey

I know Pat very well. I have spent most of my life in Rochester, NY and I can attest to the fact that he is incredibly good at Straight Pool. More important than his great ability ..... Pat Howey (PoolShark52) has the "Class" that I wish more people had. He is always a gentleman and never tries to take advantage of anyone ... no matter a person's ability or talent range. Pat has been battling a sickness for about a year and a half and if anyone can beat this disease ..... I know that he is the guy that can do it. I look forward to seeing everyone at the Derby City Classic ...... especially Pat Howey.

I agree with you Jimmy! Pat is a great player and one hell of a nice guy. I saw him a few months ago and he looked great!

Pat if you read this - keep up the good fight! You're in our prayers!

2008 AZ straight pool challenge

Hi!
I assume this should count towards 2008 AZ straight pool challenge but as there is no such thread yet I post it here. 77 ball run yesterday ended by a missed combo after bad position (I have chosen bad pattern - too much risk+no insurance ball). Not a bad start of the year though! :D

Sorry guys will catch up with this list when return to the UK end of January.

Currently in Asia chilling out!
