The BCA Expo was in town last week so I figured I would post a little recap with pictures of some of the things I got into. The show was at the Las Vegas Convention Center this year and as trade shows go was pretty cool I guess. I didn't see anything earth shattering or particularly interesting but for me it is about seeing and talking to the people anyway.

There will be tons of reports in the coming weeks from different people and media outlets in the industry about what was on display and all the new widgets that will have the life span of a fruit fly so I will just talk about the fun stuff that goes on after the show closes each day.

Wednesday I spent most of the day at the show talking to people about a project we are working on for later in the year. The reception was good and people seemed interested which was very cool. I stopped and talked to Shane at the Cuetec booth and he mentioned that it was his birthday that day. I offered to take him to dinner to celebrate and we agreed to meet after the show. By the time dinner rolled around we had a assembled a pretty interesting and fun group of people for the dinner. Here some pics from the night:

I met up with Shane and Steve Liestikow (Table Mechanic on AZ) at the Rio and we hooked up soon after with Samm Diep and Mike FieldHammer. We sat down at a bar in the Rio and waited on Mika and Caroline Pao who had just got into town to join us.

Mika and Caroline showed up so we had our full line up and headed off to the Rio Buffet.

After dinner we decided to check out the World Series of Poker set up since it was in progress at the Rio.

Out in the hallway there was jeweler set up selling the most gaudy poker/Affliction tshirt themed watches and rings in the world. Mika and Shane were immediately enthralled and proceeded to have a 20 minute conversation with the dude. It did make for some funny pics though

Along the hallway leading in to the arena they had these giant banners of poker players. It allowed me a unique photo opportunity to express my feelings about the majority of the poker subculture.

At the show Wednesday John Bertone of Kamui Tips invited me to a party that Kamui was putting on for people in the industry at Treasure Island on Thursday night. He used the magic words "Open Bar". Ship it.

The Kamui party took place at Kahunaville in TI and as you can guess by the name it was an island themed joint complete with flair bartenders and karoke stage. Based on my experience at this event I will forever use only Kamui tips. (I already use them anyway so it works out well. SuperSoft Black tips are the nuts)

At the party I hung out and talked for awhile with Terry Taggert of Delta-13 Racks and Mark Griffin of CSI and BCAPL fame.

As interesting as these two fine gentlemen are I soon spotted a group of people I just had to go say hello to. The dynamic duo from Predator; Shannelle and Nina.

Rodney Morris was in the house as well. Rodney is one of the coolest cats in the game and a hell of a lot of fun to hang out with.

Nick Varner was in the house.

Shannelle even talked him into a short dance to the song "Lets Get It Started". Yes. I am serious. Nick is a gangster.

For some reason there was a pirate in the house. This presented the opportunity to take a picture I never would have thought possible: A photo of me with Shannelle Lorrain and a Pirate. At this point the power of Vegas took over and things began to transition from industry gathering to a reenactment of The Hangover.

To prove the Hangover point above.....I walk into the bathroom at the TI and see Rodney laughing his ass off. This is usually a sign that something has gone terribly wrong. He says "Go look over there.". Being as curious as the next guy I violate my oath of ever following the advice "Go look over there" in a mens room and see a sight that is quite simply pure Las Vegas:

The above is a universal sign that it is time to move the party to the next level so along with Rodney, Nina, Shannelle and a guy whose name I have lost to the gods of Makers Mark and Vodka ended up at Pure in Caesars Palace. (Not having true baller status or $1000 bucks for bottle service we just hung out with the little people. For some reason the 98% male VIP section kept looking at our table)

At this point things get a little fuzzy. Suffice it to say I had a blast. Kamui Tips rule son !!!

Saturday I met Caroline and Mika for lunch at the new Aria hotel. This place is insane. We walked around a little bit before lunch checking out the place and I took a shot of Mika and Caroline in front of what has to be the worlds largest phallic symbol:

Whoever designed this place must really like large jutting structures. One of the pieces consists of a bunch of water filled tubes that have vortexes of water in them. Caroline posed for a pic and magically disrupted the vortex. She has strange powers.

Saturday night we met up with Fatboy and his girl Kelly for dinner at Sirio in the Aria. Kaz Miki the owner of Mezz and two of his friends joined us as well as a friend of Mika's from Vegas.

What I get to eat when I go to an Italian restaurant. (Thanks to Fatboy and Mika for staking us all to an awesome meal)

The highlight of the night for Mika was getting a ride to the airport in Fatboy's Rolls Royce.

Caroline and Kelly know it is the ones in the back of the Rolls that really call the shots.

Thus ended my 2010 BCA Expo experience. I have to say it was a kick ass way to spend a weekend in Vegas thanks to all of the great people I was able to spend it with. For me the show and even the industry itself isn't about what new multifunction tip widget is new this year or how many units of a product can be moved to a dealer network it is about the people and experiences you have with them.

I have been very down on the the whole pool game since the end of May. Thanks to a new project that Chad, Mark and I are working on it has gotten me excited about the possibilities of what we can all create together in the future. Last weekend reminded me that the game isn't all about what Dippy do, who screwed who this week or what negative thing has everyone pissed off today. There are some good people in this game and it makes me want to keep trying to create things with them.

Sorry for the epic length post, I was on a roll. Thanks for checking it out.

Even though I don't mind watching Negreanu play that is definitely a funny picture. Sounds like you guys had fun.

Good for you!

So easy to get caught up in neg side of things. You are a good photographer, story teller with a product that I feel is important to the future of this sport so wishing you the best on "THE PROJECT"

Great stuff Justin, thanks for taking the time to put it out here for us.

It was a big honkin ass ribeye steak. The things on top were fried squash flowers which when dipped in the sauce over the steak were amazing.

Always enjoy reading your posts. I am sure everyone has a few posters that you always check and see what he has to say. You are one of them. You will call things, right or wrong, as you see them and do not hold back. I can appreciate that.

Thanks for taking the time to post your pictures and experience. Treasure the moments sir!!

Nice post

Missed the last few shows so it's great to see this.

Man,you are a big dude.If you were a mugger and i didn't have cash...
..I'd write you a check...
..if it was Shanelle doing the mugging...I'd take out a mortgage..

Great photos! Looks like you had a very cool time. Now I wish I had gone, heat and all! I hope Shanelle told you that her heart belongs to me.
