The BCA Expo was in town last week so I figured I would post a little recap with pictures of some of the things I got into. The show was at the Las Vegas Convention Center this year and as trade shows go was pretty cool I guess. I didn't see anything earth shattering or particularly interesting but for me it is about seeing and talking to the people anyway.
There will be tons of reports in the coming weeks from different people and media outlets in the industry about what was on display and all the new widgets that will have the life span of a fruit fly so I will just talk about the fun stuff that goes on after the show closes each day.
Wednesday I spent most of the day at the show talking to people about a project we are working on for later in the year. The reception was good and people seemed interested which was very cool. I stopped and talked to Shane at the Cuetec booth and he mentioned that it was his birthday that day. I offered to take him to dinner to celebrate and we agreed to meet after the show. By the time dinner rolled around we had a assembled a pretty interesting and fun group of people for the dinner. Here some pics from the night:
I met up with Shane and Steve Liestikow (Table Mechanic on AZ) at the Rio and we hooked up soon after with Samm Diep and Mike FieldHammer. We sat down at a bar in the Rio and waited on Mika and Caroline Pao who had just got into town to join us.
Samm rocking the old school TAR Chick shirt
Mika and Caroline showed up so we had our full line up and headed off to the Rio Buffet.
After dinner we decided to check out the World Series of Poker set up since it was in progress at the Rio.
Out in the hallway there was jeweler set up selling the most gaudy poker/Affliction tshirt themed watches and rings in the world. Mika and Shane were immediately enthralled and proceeded to have a 20 minute conversation with the dude. It did make for some funny pics though
Along the hallway leading in to the arena they had these giant banners of poker players. It allowed me a unique photo opportunity to express my feelings about the majority of the poker subculture.
At the show Wednesday John Bertone of Kamui Tips invited me to a party that Kamui was putting on for people in the industry at Treasure Island on Thursday night. He used the magic words "Open Bar". Ship it.
The Kamui party took place at Kahunaville in TI and as you can guess by the name it was an island themed joint complete with flair bartenders and karoke stage. Based on my experience at this event I will forever use only Kamui tips. (I already use them anyway so it works out well. SuperSoft Black tips are the nuts)
At the party I hung out and talked for awhile with Terry Taggert of Delta-13 Racks and Mark Griffin of CSI and BCAPL fame.
As interesting as these two fine gentlemen are I soon spotted a group of people I just had to go say hello to. The dynamic duo from Predator; Shannelle and Nina.
Rodney Morris was in the house as well. Rodney is one of the coolest cats in the game and a hell of a lot of fun to hang out with.
