2014 us open unpaid prize money

us ?

Uh-oh; it's finally happened.........all you naysayers have killed the U.S. OPEN.....Barry is giving it up.....

I don't think we killed it, I think Barry continuously NOT paying players killed it.

And this person, who has purchased the last few US open streams, Will not be purchasing it this year.

Good riddance.

e.d.

what's in a name?

I believe the US OPEN name is worth something. 39 years of past history and champions make it so imo. The fact that muddles it imo, is if he really wants to quit, he will 'abandon the name' effectively and someone may wait him out and get it for free.

..seems to me, if someone wanted to start their own tournament, and Barry owns the name of "the U.S. Open", anybody could just change the name for the new Open tournament to any name they want.....i.e. the U.S. 9-ball Pocket Billiards Open, the American 9-Ball Open, the World Challenge 9-Ball Open, etc.

Am I wrong?

Someone can buy the US Open and all from Barry, for 2 million.
(but pay Barry as expeditiously and reliably as he pays the players)

Yes they could but they couldn't claim it to be the US Open with 39 years of great Champions and History. The US Open still has status. If someone were to buy it now and put on the 40th next year, keep the WPA points, you might have an extravaganza with 192 players or more. The only taint of the US Open is the owner-That will no longer be the case.

The first year of the American 9 Ball Championships would be a dud -Count on it

Anyone who interprets the above to be that i am BB supporter probably wears shoe boxes for shoes.

Newsflash - I have been in communication with Barry the last few days expressing my displeasure about the unpaid players, and he has been less than cordial with me, saying that I don't have his back. Well enough about that, it goes with the territory.

He sent me an e-mail this morning saying he plans to retire and sell both his poolroom and the U.S. Open. Whether that happens or not we will just have to wait and see. I suspect the fallout from this last Open has caused him to rethink the future.

he never intended to hold it this year. all part of his smoke & mirrors. its demise will be blamed on his "health", and AZB.

The US Open isn't worth a penny. Any "good will" created in regards to the brand is destroyed. It's clearly insolvent since he owes money every year. As of now, the value of the US Open is negative due to zero good will and negative cash flow with an existing deficit on the books.

Open a tournament tomorrow called American 9ball Championship. Done.

nor is Q Masters.

what'd we value it at 6 months ago in that other thread - $200K-ish?
why would anyone spend anything on a GOB, when they can get it for free?

Sponsors

This can be solved easily by the Open sponsors and partners. Mainstream sponsors and business's distance themselves from shady promoters and substance abuse behavior. Why in the world don't they do it in pool? The players are obviously being held hostage by finances etc. so the only real threat is for the business's affiliated with the Open to end there involvement. Lord knows they have a good excuse to bail for the good of the sport. No Accustat coverage no AZ coverage, no Diamond, Simionis, misc venders etc. The brand would become virtually worthless and he would be forced to let it go. So do us all a favor US Open partners, stop supporting this broken event.

There are lots of players during the Open, why bother with doing business with Barry.

How about operating an event after the first elimination at the open. Pick up some big name players without a chance of buying back in.

Fans follow the players, might be worth it. I'd even pay to watch some upcoming players that just had bad rolls at the Open, especially if they are international.

An event that is more intimate and not so touristy.
Unofficially its be the US Open losers tournament.

Wow, so now Quan Do $1500 paid but Rodrigo Geronimo $1900 unpaid according to this

Probably the best news to come out of pool in some time.

Mind you, anything Barry says is usually to be taken with a grain of salt so I am not holding my breath.

There are many people who could take the US Open and do a vastly better job with it then Barry has managed. CSI comes to mind.

But the sick thing is Barry probably thinks now that he needs a huge sum of money for the event, despite the fact that his BS has killed much of the prestige of the event and his lack of ability to actually "make" money with the event, which he has very clearly detailed for the world to see, gives the rights to the "US Open" questionable value. I can just see him expecting a million dollars for the event, regardless that the man himself cannot seem to make a dime off of it.

Saying something and actually doing it are two different things.
I would say this is being used as another excuse and stall tactic by Barry.
Just my 2 cents
It's also up to the sponsors of the US open to hold Barry accountable for this matter. By this I mean Not participating in any further US Opens.

My guess would be these are the rantings of a narcissist expecting a response of "No Barry, don't leave us" and instead is getting "good riddance..."

Yes, your probably right. If the sponsors and we the fans stopped supporting Barry and the US Open I think that would be all it would take. The only revenue stream might be from the players and that won't fly.

be careful what you ask for, Barry - ....

didn't he say that he'd pay the balance $1500 by end of this week?
what day is today?
