2018 WPA World 9 Ball

I feel the refs should have been doing the racking the entire tournament. Like the cup, players can inspect but not request a re-rack. The small gaps and random ball positioning make it more challenging for the players and more entertaining for fans imo. I'm not a fan of watching a pro run out the same balls in the same pattern, rack after rack.

They also went to ref racking for today whereas the whole tournament it was rack your own. I saw players inspect the rack but not sure if you were allowed to request a re-rack.
How can a world championship have changing conditions in the middle of the tournament?

Yeah I don't have a problem with referees racking the balls (should be the practice in all major tournaments), but I don't see how you can play all week with rack your own and change it for the quarterfinals. It doesn't really make any sense. Same as the shot clock.

The meltdown here will be epic if Filler beats Shane in the finals.

I'll have to admit, I'd be greatly disappointed.
Having just turned 40 and working my way up through my career, I see the rewards now from all the grunt work sacrifice I put in over the last 20 years.
Watching Shane lose to Ko, Albin, and then Filler (all young guns at the time of their victory) would be disappointing in that you have a seasoned advanced player who clearly put in the hours and hard labour to prefect his game and for a young buck to come along and grab the title just hits harder. It's like watching Rocky without the knowledge of Rocky 2 coming next where he eventually gets to the top of that hill against great adversity. I like the story arc where hard work and sacrifice pays off and I'm cheering for the Shane arc to continue upward after this year.

This certainly does seem like Shane's year to capture the last big tournament he hasn't won.

I didn't have a problem either. The WPA of all organizations should know how difficult this game is, and when you add in a new area of focus (changing racking process) it just robs a little bit from the players.
The shot clock is more of an extreme change that robs focus when the players are used to a routine through a tournament. Corey admitted to that in his post match interview.

Shane's interview after beating JL Chang:
https://www.facebook.com/worldpoolbilliardassociation/videos/2146015735465067/

He said Chang shouldn't have taken a sh!t break, cost him the match :rotflmao:

:D

That was funny, he really focused on that bathroom break.

Lerner even gave Shane the ultimate opportunity to talk some smack, and Shane, ever the professional, turns it into an advertisement for Qatar.

Gotta love "I'm going to the pool hall to change something and figure the break out" the guy constantly works.

Jay, as usual you are anti American.... and at this point it is painfully obvious... Shane was down 8-5 when you say “bye bye ms. America pie” Who seems to get joy out of someone else losing???
Apparently you do... mean and strange

What did Shane do to you besides continually beating your Filipino heroes like Dennis Orcollo in the race to 100 killing or was it beating Dennis twice in the finals of the US Open?? Or was it when he beat Lee Van Corteza or Ronnie Alcano in the US Open finals???

Or did you stake another Fillipino player and Shane robbed him thus robbed you?

Or is it more personal ?

Because to say what you did comes off as hating or pulling for someone else over Shane which is ok, but how can you pull for someone from Taiwan who can’t even speak English over an American?

Logic says you bet against him one too many times for more money than you could afford to lose... thus your anti Shane stance

Against my better judgement i will respond to your viral post. For your edification, when any player gets down 8-5 against a great player like Change in a Race to eleven with alternate breaks, they are in a big hole! It could be Shane, Jayson, Dennis or anyone else. The fact that Shane was somehow able to (with Chang's help) come back and win that match is a testament to his ability and composure. I spoke about that in my post #364, if you had taken the time to read it.

As far as the rest of your post, that's all just a bunch of horseshit flowing from the mouth of a fool. Thanks for sharing.

You know NOTHING. Jay and SVB are good friends, and Jay helps Shane with financial/real estate advice. It is probably in large part Jay’s help that allows SVB to not worry about income from pool.

If you don’t know, don’t speak.

Thanks to some sound investments Shane will not end up a broke pool player. He has built a nice little portfolio of investment property that will provide him with income long after he stops playing pro pool. Shane isn't just good looking, he's smart! :D

Kaci

Corey has been playing really well the past year or so. I hope he keeps it up! I was rooting for him to win.

Now for me it’s either my home country Greece or USA to root for. Hopefully they meet in the finals.

Been watching him, and also watching his play. He's leveled out is how I process him at this point in his career.

FF Kaci/17 yr old Jr. Ospito????Domito??? match;

When you see a 17 year old, down 7-1 against the ''supposedly'' Worlds number one, with the youngster body language/shrug on the sidelines that EXUDES defeat/submission. And along with that.....your watching up/down/look around/Kaci....play out that moment better than he should. He lost on the hill. 10/10 kid broke and ran out. Kaci....is NOW a broke stallion. Land of hard knocks catches up too in our world. Ya can't run 150 and out against every opponent. Welcome!!!!

But his new neck tattoo says, “Perfection.”

Is his neck big enough to add an “Im” in there?

Ahhh, the impetuousness of youth....

I think it’s the ‘bye bye Ms American Pie’ that seems anti American.

I thought it was about Buddy Holly, Richie Valen and company's death.
Still the longest ( in minutes) number one song, I think.
Joey~Loved that album to the last song. Had it on LP and cassette~

17 year old's CAN'T be strong minded...

Been watching him, and also watching his play. He's leveled out is how I process him at this point in his career.

Allow me to edify the title. A seventeen year old who can shrug off something and go on through is doing so through the ignorance of youth. They haven't had the experience to actually truly be edified in mental resilience.

The goal for anyone who gains that kind of skill at that age should be to develop mental fortitude over the next decade.

Prematurely writing off Kaci is just as stupid as prematurely anointing the 17-year-old as the next big thing. Stupider actually.

Not sure if you guys noticed this, but, at the very beginning of SVB vs Melling, just as they were about to lag, the ref starting cleaning the table ... Melling starting giggling and SVB turned away, funny stuff right there and a little insight too! Haha

Did you notice that same ref felt the need to grab the magic rack from the rail, right under Melling as he was about to shoot? i’ll find the pic and post it
