5 Tables for a Big Tourney?

Wondering your thoughts on a potential 90-person tourney played on only 5 9-foot tables.

I'm wondering if I should go to it. Now I have to take off Thursday and Friday and I haven't heard back if it will be shot gun or scheduled matches.

Pretty important women's event, but againt some pros, too, tho, so who am I kidding, lol.

Anyway, thoughts appeciated on what I should do. I'm pretty frustrated only 5 tables to play on, whether shot gun or not. :(

Sure sounds like a loooooong event.

Or short races.

Or both.

Good luck if you decide to tackle it.

You must be talking about WPBA RTC. I too was shocked when I found out that hosting room only has 5 - 9 foot tables! Especially when they invited total of 93 players  ???

I am concerned as well...

I guess one thing to consider would be if it's going to be straight double elim or if they'll be doing groups like last year. Either way, you're looking at 4 long days.

I didn't play in a lot of tournamemt or run many in my own room, but if anything near 90 show up it will be a long, long circus. Johnnyt

Start at 9am and end it at midnight or 2am, that would probably be the only way to do it, could be done in 3 days like that if its races to 5 or something.

Don't do it Trigger. This will possibly be the most frustrating pool event in your career. Find something else awesome to do instead:D!

Bring a bunch of books to read, you'll need them!

Let's do some math here...

90 players.
First round would be 45 matches (I'm not going by actual tournament charts, but you get the drift)
5 tables, so, 45 matches would need 9 matches played on each table
Say, 45 minutes per match (with getting to table, lagging, reporting scores, etc)
So, 405 minutes (6h 45m) for FIRST round alone.

And that 45 minutes is generously short... Think about how often you have to wait for people to show up...

Freaking crazy!

The average game of 9 ball takes about 5 minutes. If the race is short (5), each race could have up to 9 games. 45 minutes per match. 5 tables serving 10 players per round...9 rounds.......it's quite possible that it will take over 8 hours just to get through the first round! If it's single elimination, 3 days is probably enough time...if it's double elimination, not even close!
Day 1...all first round matches. Field cut to 48 players
Day 2..all second and third round matches. Field cut to 12 players
Day 3...Wrap it all up.

The race is 9 and then 7 on the one loss side. :(

Ugh...

And the Player's Meeting starts around 4pm on Thursday....

But I would still have to take off work that day.

Decisions, decisions....

Per WPBA letter: Race to 9 winner's side, race to 7 loser's side.

** With 8 WPBA Pro card at stake, I don't see anyone playing fast matches :frown: I guess a match could finish early as 45 minutes if someone lost 9 straight games

You get tickets for the big game? The weather might open up an opportunity for you to get them.

Don't like the teams for the prices, still. I think I may hang out at the casino for the Super Bowl party instead. Heck, might spend as much there, lmao!

Then I say you're looking at around 12+ hours for the first round alone!
