Maybe someone can give Buddy a call and ask him.
Ok, who knows how to reach Buddy?
Even if reached and statute of limitations in place, do you really think he'd admit it? I don't...

Don't be disappointed that your pool heroes didn't meet your expectations, instead be disappointed in yourself that you had heroes in the first place!

I think it would be a real short conversation. prob 2 words, the last one being 'you'.
Jay Helfert said:The maximum bet was $200 and the players could not buy tickets. That did not stop them from sending someone else to the window for them. Each winning $200 ticket paid $4200 and I think there were only eleven sold on Lebron before they changed the line to 9-1. The Mirage took a hit for 40K but when I discussed it with the head of the Sports Book, he laughed it off, saying it was small bananas. But they never made a line again in subsequent Challenges held there in future years.
I think it is proper for this to be available to be seen.

The reason pool players dump and MLB players don't is income. Baseball/football/golf players are no more noble than pool players, they just have incentive to play to win. The top 10 MLB players averaged 27 mil each in 2012. The top 10 pool players averaged 71,000 in 2012. That is peanuts when you are 1 of the 10 best on this globe at your given talent.
You guys really think that if vegas or anywhere started booking singles events again that we would not see this from todays players? come on...
I think it sucks they did it, but they are no more corrupt than any other sport.
Ian
Thank you very much for showing this disgrace of pool by two great pool players, they deserve for everybody to see this, something like this should never be forgotten and they should pay for this the rest of their pool playing carears, That way just maybe no fools will ever attemped something like this ever again, MEERY CHRISTMAS AND THANK YOU AGAIN!
That's not necessarily true.
In Major League Baseball, betting on the games is THE major no-no, trumping steroid use. MLB will ban a player from participating in professional baseball for being caught gambling on it's games. Thus, the loss of that income is a FAR bigger deterrent than the fact that they make more money than pool players do. Pete Rose is STILL not allowed to be employed in professional baseball, in any manner.
There is no governing body for professional pool, and no fear of any sort of retribution or loss of chances to participate. That is the biggest reason these dumps and savers exist. No fear of being caught, and no fear of retribution if they were. This match, and the reason we're all talking about it, proves the point quite well. This wasn't exactly a secret within the industry, if many of the posts are to be believed. Yet those 8 players continued to play and some are considered to be among the best who ever played the game...
Just a quick point. A saver is not the same as a dump. A saver is simply when two competitors agree to make the prize distribution a little more equitable but they don't agree on who will win.
A dump is an agreement on who will win.
Nothing wrong with savers ethically imo.
Dumps on the other hand are immoral and stinky.
What if Mike would have rattled the nine and left it hanging in the jaws? Now Buddy has to miscue.
