A little motivation doesn't hurt...

I confiscated Landon's cell phone last night with every intention of having it for a while.

At the beginning of our straight pool match tonite to 100 points, Landon commented, "Do I get my phone back if I run a hundred?" Thinking that a little extra boost in motivation wouldn't be a bad thing, I responded with a "YUP!"

A short time later I sat in the chair pondering my 100 to 0 whooping and a run that ended at 111. Oh well, I guess I got a good schooling in more ways than one tonite. Proud of that boy, but I did not want him to have that phone back so quickly!

Now I have to face Connie and explain it all to her.

Cell phone for a teenager is way too much incentive. 111 when he needed it is pretty strong. Say hi to the kid for me.

Amazing...Tell the kid nice shooting for me !!!

You should of raised the bar to 200 though since you already know he can do the 100 !!!

Give him back the phone without the battery.

The bar is raised to 200! We call it the Half-Schmidt.

Landon's watched Danny's 280 video a few times and has 2 Half-Harrimans so far.

Stan:

This is starting to sound like the name of a high-dive, wrestling move, or of a particular X-Games move on skateboard or snowboard. You know, "Folks, I think our competitor is going to perform a half-Harriman with a full Sapolis, followed by a Half-Schmidt with a touch of stevekur1... ok, here he goes... Ouch[!], he really botched that one -- that was actually a sausage."

Come to think of it, this half-Harriman / half-Schmidt stuff sounds like part of the phraseology used by those pretentious types ordering a Starbucks beverage. :D

It was just a little 14.1 story that I thought was worth sharing. Nothing more, nothing less. 14.1 is a great game and it has my utmost respect.

Stan: That young man is really turning it on, isn't he? Didn't he just have a 130 or so on the Diamond a few weeks ago?

What players does he try to emulate, other than perhaps Danny and John?

Does he ever look at older stuff? Rempe, Hopkins, Varner, West?

With his fundamentals and firepower, and his apparent love of this game, he should go far. :thumbup2:

Dennis, Yes, Landon ran a 140 just recently. Landon watches lots of Accustats tapes and all of those names you mentioned are some of his favorites. Just last night, He was watching a Varner-Sigel match.

Landon still has a lot of 9-ball in his game but he is slowly learning to play the game more correctly. It is tough here in KY as there is practically no straight pool played here. So, it's pretty much a self-study for Landon.

That was supposed to be tongue-in-cheek, taking [what I saw to be] an opportunity for some levity. I'm disappointed with myself that I failed to help you see it, or to bring a smile to your face.

On topic, Landon is heading towards great things, as Dennis just mentioned. I'm eager to see what the future holds for this fine young man!

Sean:
My bad, No probem. Your first paragraph was funny then I misinterpreted your use of "pretentious" in paragraph 2.
Thanks for your clarification.

16 eh??

Good luck Dad.

Do you have an unlimited text message family plan? Just sayin....

Months ago, a friend of mine had to make major changes to his cell phone family plan, and try to get an explanation from his high school age son as to how he could text on average every 3 minutes of a waking day? Oh yeah, and threaten the carrier with some sort of 'aiding and abetting- kids bankrupting their old man' lawsuit.

He's still waiting for the feasible explanation.

Good luck Dad.

Good shooting Landon. Give the old man a break, will ya.

Take care

There are worse issues.

Hey Stan, how are you ? Have not seen you since our last meeting.
The kid outsmarted you this time, sometimes it is good to be humbled as a father.

Are you going to the US OPEN ? Let me know via email if you would ?
