A Queation About How Much Back Swing Room You Need For Home Table

I agree you will be fine.

Think about it this way, the only time backswing would come into play is when you are frozen to the rail and shooting exactly perpendicular. When you are in those spots you are typically just shooting with medium speed to make the ball. I dont think your tip will ever cross the outside edge of the rail durring these shots. 5" of backswing is good IMO.
 
If you are one of these guys with a huge back swing just buy a 52" Troubleshooter cue.

I tell my customers to allow 5' min on every side. That's 14 1/2 x 19 so you should be good to play comfortable. Of course any extra is always good. Have fun!!
 
I have a column that gives me 19 feet of space and then more everywhere else. In three months we have used the Troubleshooter cue exactly once on a 9 foot table.
 
FWIW ... I found that my stance needs more room than my stroke by as much as a foot.
 
You will never be satisfied with anything less than a 9' table. Certain areas in my home table requires a 48" Troubleshooter, but for practice I can deal with it. Additionally, it lets me make sure I play position keeping the cue ball in the middle of the table.

With that much room, you couldn't possibly have any interference from the walls, even with a 60" cue. The only time you'd even come close is if the cue ball was froze to the cushion and you're shooting it straight on, in which case you'd still have to jack up your cue a little to avoid miscuing which would only give you more room for a backstroke.

This way I will be able to tell with stroke and stance if I have the room for it or not and be certain before I spend the money. OK John....you are in danger of sounding like a nit...you asked a question and 5 people, including the best mechanic in the country, said you have tons of room. 16x19 is perfect. Do the math.

Next, I perfectly understand that 19 feet is fine as everyone has said which is great. And, I greatly appreciate everyone's opinion on the subject as it's helped me out a lot.

But, if I want to be 150% sure I will have room with MY stance and MY stroke before I spend 6 grand that is what I will do. That's perfectly understandable in my book. What the hell is wrong with that?

I don't know anyone that has a broader stance than Cole Dickson, and he stands as low as you can get on the cue, with his legs spread so far apart that he looks like a midget standing at the table...and he couldn't touch your walls with his back foot:grin: but it is a major investment, so measure twice...and cut once:grin:

Hey- don't mind me....I just get up grouchy sometimes....you are right- it is a lot of money, and before I spent that cash I would damn well make sure I wouldn't have to worry about anything.
