A Rare find (Sailor Cue & Case)

Here are some more pictures of the case. I was told everything that is white is Ivory by the lady that owned the cue. She has had it for over 25 years and it was custom made for her. One of the shafts has never hit a ball. The stick has a few nicks in it but you really have to look to find them.

Doug...That's a great find! There's a lady from Chicago, who posts here as RUKIDDINGME, who is very good friends with Sailor, and sees him pretty regularly, up in Racine. She might be somebody who could verify some things about the cue and case.

I've never seen a Sailor cue with any Ivory in it. Most Sailor cues I've seen have a little roll to them & the flaired butt cap exagerates the roll. NICE LOOKING CUE, THOUGH...JER

Do I know you sir?? I got this cue from a friend of mine and she has had it for over 20 years. I for one have never sold a cue to anyone. You should know who you are talking about before you go to calling names. It could cause you trouble in the end!! If you know me tell me who you are and dont hide behind a screan name. I am Doug Carter and i live in VA if that helps you.

I was being sarcastic. I ordered the cue from him in 1976 and never got it. I spoke to him like 10 times and every time it was on the way. Here is the nuts part. At one point he told me it was coming by boat. "I swear to God". He would also not return my money. It was a cue he called his "Road cue". I called someone he knew him at the time and they said he was out of his mind and I would never see my cue. At that point I just gave up on it.

I am sorry, after i posted this i thought you might be talking about him. Anyway it's forgotten. I just talked with the lady and the cue was made in 1989 and it was gave to here as is. The shaft's came to her like they are and she told me that one of them has never been used. Thanks to everyone for your help. Scott... I will try to contact the lady you spoke of today. Thanks again

I had the opportunity to shoot with a Sailor cue 2 or 3 years ago and was impressed. It felt very natural and easy to shoot with. I have wanted one ever since.

Jim, sounds like you have enough Sailors already...

you should let me have this one ;)

Never!!

JimS will never have enough Sailor cues!! But the good news is that his addiction is treatable!!!!

can someone give me some info on a sailor cue?

What do you need to know? Try purchasing the Blue Book of Pool Cues & you'll learn all you need to know about most all makers. Great great stuff...awesome book. Don't pay much attention to the prices...many are off badly...but its sets a general baseline. No cue lover should be without all 3 editions...seriously.

Sailor cues have been made by Frank "Sailor" Stellman of Racine Wi. I havn't talked to him in a month or so but last we talked he wasn't looking to make any more cues.
He's had some health issues and has problems standing for any length of time.

Frank has been an excellent player who loves straight pool and has devoted his life to pool. He was a teacher to Jeff Carter and Mark Wilson as well as many other people. He's considered a stern but excellent teacher by most of his students, and he is a genuine pool room character with many sayings that are unique to him.

I consider him a friend.

Done Deal!! I"m happy and I know Doug is too. Cool!. I love az!!

Doug,

I'm pretty sure the case is a Jay Flowers. You might want to look under the handle for a squiggly JEF inscription.

Edit - oops, just saw John already pointed it out...

This is taking cue maker time a little too far. Even Eddie Wheat delivers in under 30 years - even though the cues are missing a few inches.

Maybe you should try him again - they have better drugs in 2009...........
