ABP boycotts Berhman's event

Oh yeah. We currently have the NFL lockout and the NBA lockout. Why not have a professional pool lockout as well?

Oh yeah, there is no such thing as professional pool...

:rotflmao1::rotflmao1::rotflmao1:

Ain't that the truth! :D

I like the ABP vision. I agree with it. It will be interesting to see how transparent they are as time goes on. If it's legit, then this might be the best thing that's happened since the jump cue!

Acccckkkkkk! Nooooooooooo!:p

I can't wait to see how the ABP will deal with Mike Zuglan's Joss Northeast 9-Ball Tour with the lack of their precious seeding.

Wouldn't it be swell if at the next Middle East tournament, three American pros show up?

All for one and one for all.

This is why I asked in a thread this morning if the Turning Stone was still unseeded. Johnnyt

How much does it cost to run one of these events?

- convention space - concession stands, spectator seating (for 12 people, lol) - 10-30k
- internet stream.. - 15k
- pool table rental, or purchase *gulp* - 25k
- pool table set up, repair, cleaning - 2 mechanics
- referees - at least 3-4 ppl
- staff to run the event - 5-6 ppl
- promotions/advertising/marketing

I'm guessing you're looking at 50-75k to just set it up.

And then you get to the prize money....

According to Barry Behrman, he's stuck 150k right from the git go:

The newly formed ABP, in their first major pre emptive strike, sound a lot like the original Charlie Williams led UPA...

I must have missed it, Johnny. I haven't been reading the forum recently. I'm re-recording right now, so I'm killing some time.

There was a big brouhaha at the Turning Stone a year or so ago about seeding. I was told by someone on site in the know, so to speak, that Charlie Bryant was upset about the event not being seeded, yet it was a BCA ranking event.

If the APB boycotts the U.S. Open 9-Ball Championship and Turning Stone, it will allow American pros to travel overseas and enjoy all of the amenities that come with living out of a suitcase on a more frequent basis than they already do.

with them or without them, you will pretty much get the same ticket sales. which is almost much nothing.

That's not a surprise. Earl's always been an independent party and captain of his own ship.

Being that most of the players are willing to boycott Earl then he shouldn't worry about their decisions here.

As an everyday patron of Q-Master's, I wouldn't want to be around Barry right now. He just had a major knee(s) operation and now this....

Ouch.

A couple of random thoughts:

IOW, an alternate event to compete at and earn some money. (It is a somewhat sad statement of affairs that with a rooster like this an event can't get sponsored.)

Lou Figueroa

Yeah, they need to throw in some hens as well too.

So true, but one thing for sure, Earl can be his own show, with or without the ABP, and his presence at any venue will sell tickets and fill seats, much more so than the emotionless robotic tournament soldiers we sometimes see on TV. :p

boycott

Remember in the 70s or 80s can't remember, the boys on the east coast started thier own group to move the straight pool event from chicago to boardwalk in atlantic city nj,and boom no more straight pool. My opinion only .
Rich aka the skunk.

My Opinion....

First off, I would have to say I agree with Inside_english, no one should slam Berry....except if there are actually still players that are unpaid from last year or any year, period. I'm sure we will all hear from him soon enough. NO-ONE wants to put in ALL THE EFFORT it takes to run something of that size!! But, Barry has time and time again.....
I think this is a way the pro players are trying to get Barry to open his eyes and say to himself, WOW I should do something quick!!! He really has so much in stake. If nothing is done by Barry then, this is perfect time for several MAJOR SPONSORS to step up to the plate and keep this great sport going!! Maybe, Diamond, Aurora road billiard supply, Cue & Case, Ozone, etc.....that is just a couple of supply companys. Imagine if that actually happened? The US-OPEN would be huge!!! I think thats what should happen.....WHY???? Because they are all the BIG companys that EVERYONE is buying from!!! Why should it be just Barry and a couple of companys? I know that there are already some BIG companys helping now but, that's obviously NOT ENOUGH!! Come on BIG COMPANYS!! Help out here... it for you in the long run anyway??

What do you think?

IMO it is a much needed step. Poolplayers have a hard enough time
staying afloat without tournament directors delaying their payment.
Try going to a tournament putting up your bankroll and getting a rain check on your money. It is BS plain and simple

How Many in 30 Years?

I must ask, How many pool players have been stiffed by Barry? Out of all the prise money won in the last 30 years, How much of it was not paid? What percentage? What percentage was not paid?
He owed me about 14 grand, gave me two checks, told me to cash 1 in 2 weeks and the other in 4 weeks. They both cleared like he said they would.
I would bet he has paid out a hell of a lot more than he hasn't.
This is just my personal opinion and experience. I would honestly like to see the above mentioned percentages.

Barry's heart is in the right place when it comes to the U.S. Open 9-Ball Championship and pool. It's just not easy to turn a profit in pool, whether you're the promoter or the player. The vendors aren't very happy sometimes with the turnouts, having to pay vendor fees for their booths. :frown:

Those who are sponsored don't have a thing to worry about until their sponsor(s) pulls the purse strings. That's why you see trained little pig minions follow their piped piper unconditionally. They'll be singing a different tune, though, when the feed sack goes empty.

You are right and while I think he acts like an ass most of the time I do watch him play. His antics aside he plays a great game.

I wouldn't trust anything Archer or Putnam have a hand in after seeing their sneaky tactics of "cut you in on a money match" caught on tape at the Bad Blood event.
