One thing is true the man put his money up.............seems like the pool players would say "sucker" by now..............not scam artist. He is guilty of believing in the dream too.

Hey Robroy, I'm trying to follow your logic. Are you saying that because KY (oops KT) may have put up his own money, that precludes KT and the IPT from being a con?

I'm not an expert on con artists, but I believe that the con artist usually invests his own money initially, putting up a front to make his con believeable and more appealing to the victims. Pryamid schemes are initially funded by the con artist until he finds enough victims to carry the payments, even pool hustlers often lose their own (or backers) money while setting up a score. In the movie "The Sting" (I know it was a movie), they spent a fortune setting up the con before they got to the "payoff".

Of course, this drama hasn't totally played out, so we don't really know who the final "mark" will be, right now it's the players, maybe later on, the elusive Ho, or perhaps the "public", as in "public offering", or maybe the scam completley fails and the con man loses.

The biggest "tell" that this is a con is the man himself, KT. Personally, I find him impossible to root for.

Look into my eyes....Your feeling sleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeepy...Your reaching for your waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaallet....your getting tiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiired.

I think we should all send KY some of Bernie's medication. It's obvious he's not using it. The rest of us are obviously not stoned enough to buy this stuff. Thirty lawyers. I got to stop before I pee myself.

QUOTE=Russ Chewning]Just playing the devil's advocate... But you know this how? Just because he says so? He also says in infomercials that modern drugs take a back seat to "Natural Cures" in curing cancer, growing hair, etc, etc, ad nauseum.

There are lots of ways for him to have gotten money together to pay prize funds that have been paid so far.

Lots of ways. What is that?

There are rumors that Mike Sigel was not really paid anything.. yet, for his part in the King of the Hill match. It could all be marketing, with Mike Sigel to be paid his fee when and IF the IPT goes public.

Mike Sigel charges $20.00 for a signed pool ball and your telling me he didn't get paid? Not sure personally I didn't ask Mike. But I know Loree Jon got paid.

I'm not saying the players won't get paid for Reno,

I hoping you are right on this one

but I have my doubts. All that really remains is a proven conman with a criminal record is in charge of big time men's pool right now. He "may or may not have" invested any of his own money in it. I'm not going to believe that part just because he says so.

What we DO know is that he lied multiple times in saying that the checks were in the mail, when they were not in the mail. He....is....a.....liar. If you give him ANY benefit of the doubt, you are deluding yourself.

Gotta give you that one...........but I will stick with the first sentence only.

I really don't get what is so complicated. He is a conman who sells placebo pills as cancer and baldness cures, and assorted other snake oils.

The complicated part is tricky, he is either a conman or he truly believes what he is doing. I think there is a difference. I am not on a health kick however when I played at an IPT event..............loved the food.....sure would have like having sweet and low for my coffee and a diet coke.........but KT kept true to his conviction they are bad for you.
He sure thinks out of the box...........he may fall hard but I take my hat off to him.............he jumped!

If that were not bad enough, he has lied to our professional players, then left them hanging for an entire month.

Agreed, he should have put his cards on the table..........he should come clean on that one.

And you say we should be POSITIVE about some letter from this slimeball?

I'm saying if you are not an IPT player you should have never seen the letter.

Did you miss the part where he has a history of lying? It would be one thing if he said the checks should be going out next week once we "seal the deal" with Ho. But he didn't.. He SAID THE CHECKS WERE ALREADY IN THE MAIL.

Are we having fun yet?

Simple Questions......If i read this right and i believe i did. He is definately selling to HO and Ho is going to pay off all the players (=debt). Now why would anyone in their right mind want to buy this business that KT has started and is over 3 million in the hole already and pay 150 million to boot for it. Just don't make sense. I can understand 1 company buying another and also getting all of their debt. So another question comes to mind. If KT does indeed sell the IPT to Mr HO. Then who owes the players the money for Reno. KT or Mr HO. The debt was incurred when KT owned it. So why would Mr HO buy it and pay off KT's large debt. KT, in my opinion should have never held the Reno tournament if he knew he was selling and the players would have to wait for MR HO to put his money into the IPT's account so they could get paid. KT, should have been forth right with the players and told them this from the start. Then we would not have this problem and infighting going on.................................mike

Not at all, I am saying if he is such a great con man and he chose pool players to con.............I don't get it. It is a much easier sell to think he loved pool an attempted something huge. Didn't count the cost and got in over his head.

Time will tell

Then root for Pool, I am.

Ont Thin Dime...One Tenth Of A Dollar !!!!

I'm surprised that noone posted the bottom part of KT's e-mail message, which read:
Step right up ladies and gentlemen and see the Tallest man on earth, the Shortest man on earth, the Bearded lady and Jo-Jo "The Dog Faced Boy"....

I deeply regret that the player payouts
have had to be put on hold until this acquisition has been officially
completed. I totally understand and acknowledge your frustration and
concern. Please be aware that unfortunately this was an unavoidable
situation due to many factors that are extremely complex in relation to the
enormous nature of this deal.

So this deal is so complex they can't pay the players. But not too complex to still take the players money for qualifiers. Alrighty then.

"I wish it were as easy as me paying players myself, but this is legally unacceptable at this time." -Kevin Trudeau

How could it be legally unacceptable for you to pay out of your own pocket? If I wanted to give Efren Reyes a check for 500k, all I would do is write the fookin check. If it's coming out of pocket, then there is no legal issue. Pay the players Kevin. You're doing more damage than good to your brand.

Okay.. I'll try to be patient and explain it real S.L.O.W.. I have to explain it S.L.O.W. because I have already explained it a few times, and people ignore my point.

He is not getting "slammed" so much for late checks. He is getting slammed because he lied about checks being in the mail, when they in fact, were NOT in the mail. And, he is also getting slammed for showing total disrespect to the players by not communicating with them. Given his history of conning desperate, sick people into buying placebo pills and books based on placebo cures, you would think all you "positive" folks would understand our pessimism on his intentions.

You call it optimism. In this particular case, I call it self delusion.

Russ

Geeezze, Russ. Get off the fence. Take a stand, here! Let us know how you feel! :D

That is the "secret" of every successful salesperson, anyone who ever beat a polygraph (lie detector) test, and especially every smiling con man.
Thats not how you beat the polygraph...... youre supposed to clench your sphincter when you tell the truth to drive your heart rate up to match it when you lie......... ask KT, he'll tell ya....

There seems to be a growing army of negavibe know-alls frequenting this forum now, that seem to assume that every single thing that KT said is either a lie or an extreme embellishment.

Sure he spins things a tad, and criticism for the payments in waiting are deserved.

But keep in mind that much of what KT has told us has happened. The 3 biggest events in history have happened. Significant broadcasting has been achieved.

So I think it's arrogant to assume every word is bollocks. I guess we'll know a little more about the future of the IPT come Tuesday, and there are reasons to be a little worried. But fact is no one here really knows what is going on.

If this merger goes ahead and the IPT becomes a public company, then it would seem to be a somewhat impressive milestone for the sport.

Personally I don't think there is enough evidence to suggest that the IPT is doomed to failure, even though I have concerns about some areas of management, PR, communication etc.

Until I learn more I'll keep my fingers crossed and pray they can make the IPT a successful business.

One thing I'm sure of is that KT has worked bloody hard and turned over a lot of stones that people in the pool game haven't even looked at before. Not all stones revealed a treasure, but you never learn by not trying.

If the players do not get paid and 2007 members do not get their 100k, KT will deserve strong criticism for dishonesty. A delayed payment is forgivable however.

So hold onto your hats until Tuesday's announcement comes in and further information is forthcoming.

Colin

btw: Who actually said that the checks were in the mail? And where is the evidence for it?

I can't recall ever hearing that the checks were in the mail.

Very well said .... Some people 'thrive' on the NEGATIVE ASPECTS of life.
No wonder the bloody divorce rate is so high! The IPT, with all its faults, still has done a number of trailblazing things for the Pool world, where many have fallen short in the past. What is trying to be accomplished would be monumental to the Pool world, and Rome wasn't built in a day folks.

I think it is okay to have concerns and a little skepticism, but the 100% negativity that is posted by some people, or just because it isn't shaping up the way they think it should, is uncalled for, IMO.

Now, I don't think 30 lawyers are involved, but considering all possible aspects of the deal, it is entirely possible that 6-10 lawyers could be involved, along with management types from multiple companies.

Robroy said:
Then root for Pool, I am.

You still misunderstand.

I am, have been, and will root for pool my entire life. That is not the issue.

In my opinion, the success of pool and KY's (oops KT) involvement in it are mutually enclusive. And accepting an option simply because it is the only one currently available is not always part of a rational decision making process.

right on colin.

look, the way i see it is we need to reserve our judgement. he may well have a dodgy past, but let's face it, up until this current farce with the cheques, he's done nothing but a whole lot of good for the game of pool. he says this fiasco is "a one off and was unavoidable" and won't happen again, so why not give him the benefit of the doubt? he's made this announcement to the players, lets see what happens. until then let's be sensible and reserve our judgement. because let's remember, it helps our game in no way at all for the IPT to bomb.
