Another Question For CJ Wiley

this year will certainly be entertaining, I'm going to live it like it's my last year
I believe, in another thread it was agreed that there were no "Pro Tournaments" much less a Pro Tour. I have offers to go over seas to play, but I don't think that's the right move. I'm more interested in stopping to fix the broken game than competing at a game that obviously needs an engine tune-up. Of course developing a TV schedule is vital.
Maybe I'll just come to St. Louis and hang out at White Castle with you. Maybe I can give Carl the 5 and the break for 10k a game to get things started in 2015. Or maybe Mark Griffin can join us and you guys can take turns calling me names. Either way this year will certainly be entertaining, I'm going to live it like it's my last year on earth.
Right now I'm trademarking a new game that I've been working on for over 20 years. It looks like the perfect time to make an impact, but of course only time will tell. No matter if the game's better than baked bread it's still going to be a lot of work. I competed in nearly 140 tournaments last year, so I've had my finger on the pulse of pool, although it's been more of a R&D stage the last couple of years.
I'm playing at Rusty's Billiards tonight in Ft. Worth and tomorrow night. CK's in Dallas on Thursday, and Volcano's Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. I like attending these local tournaments because I get the chance to share info in person, rather than on a computer. It's very challenging to communicate pool techniques in writing, without the use of tonality and non verbal communication, not to mention demonstration on an actual table.

I was hoping to see you play at the Derby City Classic.
I suggest it is a great way to support the sport.

I'm guessing that C.J. has been predominantly active on the marketing and business side of pool for a long time now; although he still possesses a pro's knowledge and experience shooting at this game, I don't think all the woofing and challenges to gamble are so daunting to him; rather he's not so serious or perhaps interested at competing at top level with the young guns these days; he's probably got other irons in the fire. The observation is that CJ is obviously one of the Pro players that did not, and does not have to depend on making a living at just shooting pool. More power to you, C.J.

CJ...an excellent response. I really enjoy your comments, especially those to who you "damn with faint praise". They just don't get it.
1. That's why I said pro tournaments/major events cause it is correct that there are no pro tournaments in the USA. Thus 'major events' is a more valid term. Anyone can play in any event, unless it is an invitational, limited field which are more exhibitions than tournaments.
2. I don't believe I have ever called you a name.
3 I don't eat fast food so we will have to pick another spot. If I ate fast food, I would be dead in a year which some might be happy about.
4. Carl gets the 5, the 7, the last 5 and the break. At least that is the standard spot from a top player.
5. I hope you are better organized and have deeper investors/pockets or better connections than the last group that tried to develop a new game, teach it to the players and the public and get it on TV. Just Google "Bonus Ball" if you weren't aware of that failure.

You noticed I didn't get involved in Bonus Ball even though I was offered a Captain position for Dallas by Larry (they changed it to Houston after my rejection).

Then I went to Vegas when they were filming and had a meeting with Larry and Barry. At the meeting I told them "I won't tell you what I think you should do, I'll tell you what I know from experience you shouldn't do," then preceded to lay out their plan (come to find out). After I told them it suddenly seemed like all the air got drained from the room.
They treated me like I had a contagious disease after that. (I doubt if they thought I was in 5th grade though)
I lost interest immediately, the good news is I had a great time in Vegas and met the person responsible for a major contribution I was able to make later that year.
Our new game takes 5 minutes to learn and a lifetime to master.

I don't know if your game will be "the" straw that breaks the camel's back or the straw that is spun into gold like Rumpelstiltskin's daughter could do, but it will be MORE INTERESTING than what I'm currently accustomed to.
The game needs some "excitement" and today's game isn't "bringing it". Hopefully a game with more Hail Mary's, gauntlet shots, and offense will catch on and flourish. I get my kicks on Route 66 and in the cereal bowl...I don't need to be watching them in pool.

I've started playing it with some of the locals and they like it! was wondering what you thought about it! Fast paced, 15 minute games, and all out offensive! It's not traditional, but I think because it being fast paced, people may get into it!

We worked this game to completion like it was a complex mathematical equation.
That sounds interesting, although there's no game like the one I'm working on. It does have components of several games blended (not shaken and stirred) to get the most ideal situation in every game......for the competitors and the viewing audience.

always remember the "KISS" method! You want "outsiders" to understand quickly and hopefully get them involved!"33" is nice and simple and bangers can bang away,,,,, while the good players get the game over quick
Either way, DONT MAKE IT COMPLICATED, MAKE IT "SIMPLICATED"

I've been watching the Chinese 8-ball event on stream the last couple of days and my feeling is that 8-ball is a perfect game as long as the pockets are tight enough for the level of those competing. In truth, 8-ball is also the only game than most amateurs know or care about, and its great simplicity (one has stripes, the other solids, and the eight can't be shot until your clear your set). It is nearly as simple as snooker, which my grandmother could easily understand into her late 80's (red color red color, etc. until the reds are gone).
As the Bonus Ball guys learned, changing the game is not the solution. How long the new game takes to learn doesn't matter.
Even when the pros play 8-ball, they usually don't count the 8 on the break, so they are not playing the game the amateurs know.
Bit by bit, pros have disenfranchised amateurs by changing the games and the rules to make the game less and less recognizable to amateurs.

It's about perspective. I, like most people was blinded to what pool was really about - from the entertainment point of view.
It was a huge challenge to be able to see the forest for the trees.......there's a fascinating story behind what made my mind re-boot so I could see the game's true nature and how to maximize it's potential. I'll tell it in 2016, it wouldn't be appropriate now.
