Linda, you sneaky lady you! Quit hiding all these great pictures!

Do you have any of some of the lesser known players we've discussed before?

Masa Sasaki? Bruce Robertson? Tyler Luce? Roger Pettit? Kris Iverson? Tim Tweedel? Clyde Bowles?

You know we have a lot of NW posters on here.. I think we'd all appreciate having some photos of players we haven't seen in YEARS, especially older photos..

Note: Dan Louie was the first pool player my wife met besides me. I saw him in a casino somewhere near Tacoma while gambling there with my date/future wife. We went up and talked to him, and he was real nice to us both. Too bad I was too shy at that time to talk to more of the top players, and actually try to make friends with everyone.

Wow, that is some nice stories. It really impresses me to hear everyone saying how Dan Louie is confident yet not arrogant. Dan Louie is one of the classiest champion I have ever met.

Dan Louie has alwasy been very kind and generous with his knowledge, he would never hesitate to show a new player a shoot or share his view on a situation. Watching a match together with him has always been some of the fondest moments in every tournament I visited when he was around.

One thing I really wish I could do is to look at some of the cues Dan Louie owns. I was told he has quite a nice collection.

Dan Louie, regardless of all the nice cues he has, always plays with a Dave Tice. Danny is a true class act and a true champion in every sense of the word.

Someone mentioned the late Harold Danielson. Harold was the one who introduced me to Dan Louie when I was a teenager:) . Harold was a very dear friend and a mentor, I miss him dearly.

You hit the nail on the head there. I think one of the most stirring moments I have ever witnessed was in Reno at The Sands when it was announced that Danny was back after having a kidney transplant, and every champion and the whole crowd gave him a standing ovation - a testament to how beloved this champion is.

I will try to get some pics for you of his collection. Dave Tice does amazing ring and point work. I have a Keith Custom Cue and it is always getting mistaken for a Tice.

And yes, EVERYONE misses Harold. He had the greatest stories too!

Aw yeah, I have posted a lot of pics here and there. I have a pic of Timmy, but it is on my other computer which is tied up right now. I will see if I can get some of the others.

Masa Sasaki - Mike used to call me the gatekeeper at the Dr. Cue's tournament, because Masa kept beating him, but then I started beating Masa every week and Mike then went on to win, lol. He is dealing cards.

Bruce Robertson - His son took over Dr. Cues, so I could probably find out where he is now. I think he moved somewhere sunny.

Tyler Luce - His game jumped a ton. He wears a glove on both hands. I like his concentration, much like Danny's, where he doesn't fire until he is good and ready. Gone is his white tipped hair, replaced by its normal brown coloring.

Roger has the easy day job at Harvey's. I saw him last Sat. Still makes a cue or two and fixes our tips.

Kris Iverson is now with Barbara Dooley. Mike Dooley is walking around like a living skeleton. Kris and Barb I HEARD was into some pretty bad stuff. All I know is that Kris does not play pool around here or in the big tournaments anymore.

Red Raider, (or our ugly red-haired step-child as we call him) is sick today with a bad cold. He had his golf clubs and car stolen so he has promised to start playing more pool. He will also be on the BCA team.

Clyde Bowles - He can still play! Love his overalls! He split up with Gail some time ago. I know my girlfriend has pics of him, so I will check with her to get them sent to me for you.

When you saw Danny in a casino, it was probably with his wife....she loves to gamble. Oh yeah, when I first made an appointment with Danny for my lesson, he stood me up! He was just dating his future wife then. :p He was so apologetic and very nice about it.

Left Handed???

Shortly after Dan Louie beat Buddy in Baton Rouge on the 4X8 and the day after he beat Louie Roberts in Jackson, Dan and Buddy show up at the gambling pool room in Jackson, Bill's Pool Room. Bill's, only has 2, 9' pool tables and 2, 9' shooker tables. Buddy was already there when Dan walked in. Buddy laid he case on one of the 9' pool tables, opens it and starts screwing his cue together. Buddy tells Dan that this place only has normal size cue balls so don't try to put some white bowling ball on the table. As every gambler knows, matching up is a part of any game, set or session. Dan isn't afraid of the 9' table but Buddy Hall, at the time, was the most feared player on earth under those conditions. Dan doesn't ask for weight. Dan tells Buddy he will play him even if they both play left handed. I had seen Buddy play left handed knew he played close to his right handed speed so I figured Buddy had the nuts. Wrong.......... They play by the game, for either $50 or $100 a game and it only lasts 5 games with Dan winning all 5 and Buddy pulls up.

Buddy did offer to play Dan some more the same way if they both called their shot, plus, their position shot. Dan passed. The only semi-loser Dan booked on the trip south was in a tournament on the Gulf Coast when Denny Searcy (God rest his soul) beat him.

Masa was one of the first players I beat after my month long practice session. I was stoked. He was really surprised when I started pulling controlled kick safes on him..

Bruce Robertson - His son took over Dr. Cues, so I could probably find out where he is now. I think he moved somewhere sunny.

I heard that Joe Chun was always a few balls over Bruce in One Pocket, but would only play well enough to just squeak out the wins, and that he kept Bruce in his wallet for years..

Tyler Luce - His game jumped a ton. He wears a glove on both hands. I like his concentration, much like Danny's, where he doesn't fire until he is good and ready. Gone is his white tipped hair, replaced by its normal brown coloring.

Ahhhh geez, does he still wear two gloves? I thought it looked really silly way back then. He played strong 8 ball on the bar box. He had my number on the bar box in 8 ball even when my game jumped up a notch. Played solid bar table 8 ball, but didn't have the ultra confidence in his skills on the barbox that Atwell and others had.

Roger has the easy day job at Harvey's. I saw him last Sat. Still makes a cue or two and fixes our tips.

Roger "hustled me for like $40.00 one time before I started heavy practice.:D We were only playing $20.00 sets, and he still hid his game. Sheesh!

Kris Iverson is now with Barbara Dooley. Mike Dooley is walking around like a living skeleton. Kris and Barb I HEARD was into some pretty bad stuff. All I know is that Kris does not play pool around here or in the big tournaments anymore.

Kris was always an ass. Every single time I saw him, he did or said something arrogant. Still played sporty.

Red Raider, (or our ugly red-haired step-child as we call him) is sick today with a bad cold. He had his golf clubs and car stolen so he has promised to start playing more pool. He will also be on the BCA team.

Show him my picture, and tell him I am ready to come back and try some more of that "5 and the breaks" game!:p

Clyde Bowles - He can still play! Love his overalls! He split up with Gail some time ago. I know my girlfriend has pics of him, so I will check with her to get them sent to me for you.

Clyde and I used to play a lot of ring games together at a sports bar near the Lakewood Mall. Pat Vise used to play sometimes too, but not when Clyde was there. Rennie Amadeo was occasionally in that ring game too. I think we played pea pool or something. Clyde is a good player, but looking back, I was easily impressed. Clyde played fairly error-free pool, but plenty of people play error free and get broke. With the break I had at the time, if I had improved my position play earlier, I would have robbed that game. My mantra these days is to practice until I am putting packs together, as that is what it takes to win tourneys and ring games.

I enjoyed Clyde's stories. He told us one about going into the armed forces with barely a dollar to his name, and he called home to get some money wired to him right after basic training.. until he found a ring game. He won like $200.00 back in 1960 something, and cancelled the money wire!:) You can tell he played since he was a kid, as he still has that sidearm stroke.

He broke up with Gail? That's too bad! They made such a good couple! She seemed to really enjoy going to tournaments with him! She was a nice lady, too.

Wrong Pocket

Dan Louie story, It was in a 1P tournment in 93 at the Reno Hilton, Dan was way behind in the game he was playing in the tournment, he was a couple wins into the tournment and playing good, but in this particular game Dan needed them all or he was going home, I watched the frame for 20 minutes and it got down to one ball and they were pushing it around the table for ever, moving ahead somehow it ended up a spot shot for Dan with BIH behind the line to beat the guy and advance in the tournment, there was about 15-20 of us watching, Dan stands there looks at the ball on the spot for a while collects himselfwipes down his cue, cracks his knuckels gets down and fires it in the heart of the pocket, the other guys pocket-he forgot which pocket was his, the guy said"Thanks" Dan looked a bit confused, looked to the rail and everyone said "dan the other pocket is yours". He just shook his head broke down his cue and walked away-kinda Efren style clearly upset he knocked himself out of the tournment after cheating death alot of times on that frame, what a come back to make that mistake on,

Dan Louie has ALWAYS been a class act. I have never seen him fail to shake the hand of his opponent and compliment him, win or lose. He never makes excuses for a loss and is modest when he wins. Dan is humble, gracious and has miles of heart.

The all time best final match I ever saw was Danny and Sigel in Bend, Oregon in 1976. They battled back and forth for hours, before Danny finally beat Mike in the THIRD go round at Eight Ball and 9-Ball. They both played brilliantly thoughout the match.

I guarantee you Sigel never forgot that match. It may have made him a better player. He seemed to win all his final matches after that one.

Dan won the collegiate championships both years he played -- 1973 and 1974. The rumor was that he had only been playing 14.1 (the game then) for a few months. In the 1973 finals, his opponent broke and Dan ran 70 going to 100. Playing in a sports coat and tie, that's not so easy.

Louie vs Mc Cready?

I heard a story of Dan coming to Southern Cal and meeting Keith. Keith asked Dan how old he was. Dan says, "18" (even though he was actually 22). Keith then says, "Anyone my age gets the 7 ball". They play and Danny takes the win and the cash.

Don't know where I heard this. Maybe JAM can ask Keith about this.

I have never met Dan, and dont claim to know much about him. However about three months ago I ran into a guy in the pool hall who was from Washington and said he plays pool with him on a daily basis. He told me that Dan was playing the best pool of his life right now. Have no way to back this up, just what I was told.

There are very few players like Dan Louie and he is class act all the way. Only a few players fall into his greatnest and I will name a few .....

Dan Louie - humility and a heart full of gold & brilliant at the table.
Efren Reyes - very humble and real lucky. Raw talent at its best.
Tom Kennedy - always smiling, honest, and knows where he is headed.
Alex Pagulayan - full of humor, talent & heart. Very likeable, like everyone on this list.
Santos Sambajon - quiet, full of character & talent.
The late Dave Piona - always glad to see you & wanted to shake your hand and what a smile. He was ready to meet his maker, & what I guy, I can just see him with his hand out ..... walking up to the maker of this universe and saying "hello there" but in Dave's case he knew everyone by name so it was not just a hello.

Greatness, and being a champion comes in many forms and you cannot hide it for everyone can see it and we thank you guys for the talent and all the good memories you have given us! Let us give these guys a tribute while they are still with us!!

Maybe someone else out there would like to add to this list and let us not forget all the ladies that we get to watch play. Thank you girls for all your investment of time in the sport, and may the rewards of pool and the people you meet be valued as you are valued to us!
