Any idea what Earl's playing with now...?

If the rumor is true, what a damn pity it is.

Earl Strickland is the greatest American pool player ever, and his accomplishments in the sport are more plentiful than any other American player. Yet, there are some in the American pool culture who seem to enjoy ridiculing him as if he was a monster.

Shame on all of you who take joy in these stupid threads, all created for the purpose of bashing an American legend. Shame, I say. When I read threads demeaning Earl Strickland, threads which continue to expand ad nauseum with as much mean-spirited crap as folks can muster, I am extremely saddened, so much so that I may just take a hiatus from this forum for a while. I don't like it one bit and reading this crap every single day is sickening, and if I stand in the minority, so be it.

JAM

Its always nice Jam to see you stick up for what you believe in and support american pool the way you do! Please don't leave us all alone on az, we would be lost.

I heard a rumor tonight that Earl is retiring. Can anyone confirm or deny this?
Well, I see that he's signed up for the Predator World 10 Ball Championship in Florida in May (his name is on Williams' site), so I doubt that he's hanging it up just yet...

Hit like a Southwest and retail for around $149!! Not likely!!!

Should be no problem doing this. The hit of a cue is determined almost entirely by the bumper and the tip. Nothing in between really matters...

I can confirm this. Yes, you did hear it.

Whether it is true that Earl is retiring, I can't say. But I'm sure you heard it or you wouldn't have asked.

Boy, I'm sarcastic tonight. Time to get some cheesecake!

If you knew him you might have a different opinion. He gets crazy on the table, but outside of that he is good to go. I have seen worse things happen (between friends) during a game of golf (pool) when someone doesnt cover their player and he gets out after 4 hours of work.
Boy, you said it. Those golfers (pool) are the biggest bunch of whiners I have ever witnessed in a pool room. I can't count how many broken cues, fights, and tantrums that have occurred during the local golf games. If you don't watch your man (defending the guy after you) then there will be hell to pay!!!:D

Determine Earl's playing cue in a week and you get my V Cash.

I'd actually be interested in finding out...

I predict that no one will know what type of cue Earl is playing with for at least a month or two. There will be some guesses but no one will know for sure.

Here's the challenge: Find out what cue Earl plays within one week and I will give you my current V Cash.

Im happy for him if he is able to retire but I doubt he can at this point. Wasn't he divorced not too long ago?

It will be hard to stay on the present road also with no sponsor, especially if he is going to rack the balls after every dry break or miss. Time for another plan Earl-Good luck to you.

Arguably he might have been the best 9ball player on a 41/2 x 9' table.

A case can be made for many others as far as being the best player ever. IMO the list would include, but not be limited to: HALL, VARNER, McREADY, SIGEL, LASSITER, WORST, etc.

I also think that if EARL would have pursued excellence in other pool disciplines he would have succeded.

Don't be upset by what others think and type.....NOTHING more than opinions:)

Hey JAM,

A quick look at my post record and you will discover that I am a HUGE Earl fan. And I have taken more than a few lumps (both here and at the pool room (by readers of this forum) for being so). I believe he is simply the GREATEST 9 baller EVER. EARL has won more 9 ball world titles than the Phillipines (THE COUNTRY!!!), EARL has won more US Opens than the Phillipines (THE COUNTRY!!!). I HOPE that that he is not retiring. You can love or hate him. However, when all is said and done.....THIS MAN CAN PLAY!

There's more to being a champion than being able to play. His rude immature behavior is an embarrasment to the sport and the country. I'm not saying he's a bad guy. I'm saying his behavior is unacceptable.
