Anybody remember Peter Gunn?

I do remember Peter. Was he a cigar smoker? As I recall back in the days of Cherry Hill Billiards he would go in there from time to time. I remember being introduced to him but was his last name really Gunn? I sort of remember it being something different. I can even sort of remember what he looked like. This must have been back in...hmmmmmmmmmm.......mid 70s. Also as I recall he and a bunch of older dudes used to come in on an almost daily basis and play Odd Ball. Now....see how many of you remember THAT game. Back then he was friends with Jimmy, Petey I assume, Spanish Mike, Spanish Louie etc. etc.

Aaaaaactually...in doing some more thinking about it I was wrong. The Peter I was thinking of was a dude nicknamed Peter Rabbit. I think his last name was Linhardt or something like that. My bad.
This is correct. His real name was Lin Wesson and he was a top hustler. He once beat Tacoma Whitey (a damn good player) out of 60K CASH! They tried to muscle Peter and that was a mistake as well. He was a former star high school fullback from Bakersfield, CA and was hard as a rock (maybe 6' and 220 all muscle!) and no one to fuc with! I played him several times at my pool room in Bakersfield, never did get the best of him at any game. I did win playing Banks one time, but he came back the next day and beat me at that game as well. :wink:
He grew up playing cross town rival Bakersfield Bobby. They both became terrific players and hustlers. Bobby is still alive, living in Arizona. Peter died about ten years ago. He used to come in my last pool room at Hollywood Park and visit me. He was a great guy and a good friend.
Jay, thanks very much !! I bet that's him as the description fits his son (my buddy) to a tee! I am absolutely going to share your reply. Btw - you may be interested to know that his son ended up bodyguard to a US president years ago and his grandson was just drafted to a semi pro football team in AZ as a wife receiver.
It's cool. I remember Peter Rabbit too from country club Billiards when I first started playing.
Great game. Go for the hit. No BIH .Partners on a Sat afternoon at Cue & Cushion in the Roosevelt Mall on Cottman St. with my Doc Fry.

Oh dear God the arguments and woofing that would go on in that game were priceless. Some of the funniest arguments and posturing you'd ever want to see. Was great entertainment. Real old timey pool room stuff among the regulars. Really great guys to learn the game from so long as you kept your mouth shut and just watched and listened.

His name was Lynn Wesson if I recall correctly. No longer with us.
I remember getting into a five handed ring game with him in it. The game was $20 a man in the sixties at a bar in Rosemead CA. The location was Garvy and Rosemead and the place was called the Blue Star, big action joint at that time. I remember being down about $300 before I finally got a shot. Bar action at it's finest. We had a lot of joints like this in those days. Easy to make a months wages in one night.
