Az Get Together

I don't have enough time to organize them by myself, but I would be willing to work with some people on it. I think that it would probably be best to have people who are used to organizing these types of events in their respective areas. I think Jay would be willing to organize the west coast and maybe even the Las Vegas event. How about it Jay? I would be willing to help in any way I can.

Are there any volunteers for the other respective areas?

Jaden.

hey Jaden, I'd be down to help out. Maybe we could do it at hardtimes or hollywood??

TheTwelfthofaDozen,
If Indy had not lost it's ONLY decent poolhall, I would have been first in line to organize a tournament. As it is, I'll offer to help Zim if anyone wants a St. Louis venue.

DCC this year is definitely a great unknown quantity; but I can assure everyone that Greg and Mark are doing everything in their power to make it even better than the previous version. I for one hope they succeed.

Somehow I believe that you are not really too nervous over being "hustled" by me (in the same way Tiger Woods is not worried about being hustled by the third man on the junior high school golf team). I WILL practice however, in hopes that you will suffer some sort of major orthopedic injury that requires you to shoot opposite handed (or perhaps opposite footed if both arms are severed.....I can see you now saying, "ahhh, it's just a scratch...a minor flesh wound"). Such an injury would at least give me a small chance to win a brew.

Come here now, I'll bite ya legs off! :)

I had a crazy idea yesterday. There are so many good players who post on here, why not have an annual get together, with an All Around tourney thrown in. I'm thinking $100 entry fee into each division, maybe One Pocket, 9-Ball and Banks. No added money, we just play for the entry fee money. Keep it fun but with a little purse to go after.

I thought about Colorado since it is centrally located. It doesn't have to be there though. If Jim McDermott liked it, we might be able to do it at his poolroom in Tulsa. And he can play too. He plays good by the way.

I see it as a big pool party, with some spirited competition thrown in. I'd love to meet all the good players who post here. I suspect I will recognize most of you. Ironman, Blackjack and Island Drive are already down for this. Who else?

Okay, tell me what you think.

Jay,
Last year we held one at Pool Table Magic and it was very nice. We had a cue show and a few tournaments. It went so well we are going to try and do two days this year. We had free table space last year, and it will be free again this year for displays.

Sick English Humor! :D

OK....a quick note... Monty Python and a the Holy Grail is a TRUE classic!!!! I rented it for my daughters 16th B'day sleepover and she thought I was "flippn" out of my mind. Her peers thought I'd lost it. One girl and I laughed our rears off for an hour. So, if you are over say...25 you may enjoy it. go to Block Buster on line and rent it. BUY it. IT's worth it.

I think this thread has died..... it has gone silly. Frankly I think we should have this thing in AZ and be done with it.... I vote for BBQ!!!!!! And bring your on Dim cue....

I figured since a lot of times 50 posts seems to be the magic number on AZ activites, I would post my 50th post on the thread for a possible AZ tourney. Here's to hoping there is an AZ tourney soon. If not I will just play the members again at AZ room in the DCC.

I suggest that we have 1 tournament in 4 different regions and the top player from each event play against each other in a round robin format at the DCC AZ Room!

All events "should" be only 1 day and I'm guessing no more than 32 players will show up at each. Would love to be wrong and get double, but only one way to find out.

Format is "89"! Best of 7 alternating games, 8 ball and 9 ball on winners side and best of 5 on losers side. First game is 8 ball, 2nd game is 9 ball and continue to rotate until someone wins 4 games! However, if it's a 3-3 tie, the 7th game is determined by a coin flip. Winner of coin flip chooses to 1) break and opponent picks game or 2) the game and opponent gets to break.

$55.00 Entry Fee with fees coming out of that (greens fees, DCC AZB Room added money, etc) This will be determined later with the other details.

Person in charge of each event could run a player auction (calcutta) via PayPal here on AZB if we have a mandatory pre-register/pay in place.

I will find a room in the St. Louis/Metro East area and organize this event.

That sounds like a very fun idea Zim. Plus it woud totally tie up the DCC room for a 4 player play off. Lots of upside to the idea.

That's a lot of great ideas Zim. It will be effective more so in the large populated areas I imagine. New Orleans couldn't get 32 AZers together if Buddy Hall was going to coach each player.

Good luck with your tournament.

Jay--you play me 6-4 in 10-ball banks and I'm there.Oh I'll probably have to be there anyway. How 'bout some golf, poker action on the side, too?

John, our game has always been 5-4 in 9-Ball Banks. Poker is cool, and I will drive the golf cart for you. I once was a Putt Putt pro. True story, I was 18 and played in a a couple of tournaments. Even finished in the money. :)

Jay, Leon Crump, golf hustler extraordinaire, once had a schoolteacher stuck a couple of thou at a par-3 night course. The joint closed, so they moved on to a putt-putt and Leon won another five thou--on air. He went to the guy's bank with him, the guy came up with 500, and nine more checks to be cashed each month for the balance. They were no good, the taecher quit his job and left town.

We could change all the games a little and give every one a much better chance and have a few laughs.

Straight pool on a bar table.
6 ball rotation on a bar table or 3 ball rotation on a big table.
8 ball short rack using a 7 ball rack structure
6 Ball rack one pocket on a bar table.
Three ball NO ROTATION event on those out second round, with a percentage of all entries given to support this knock out tournament.

Or how about a 3/6/6 tournament. Race to X, each table plays a 3 ball rotation, then a 6 ball non rotation and then a 6 ball rotation for their coinage, ie. three points can be scored with one coin drop on the bar table. Race to 15? or whatever.

Make it FUN and may the best lucky player win.

Just thought I'd bring this back to the front page! There seems to be a lot of interest in this. Could we make this a STICKY?

If I hold a tournament in the St. Louis/Metro East area in October (dates TBD), who would be interested in playing?

Format is "89"!
Best of 7 alternating games, 8 ball and 9 ball on winners side and best of 5 on losers side. First game is 8 ball, 2nd game is 9 ball and continue to rotate until someone wins 4 games! However, if it's a 3-3 tie, the 7th game is determined by a coin flip. Winner of coin flip chooses to 1) break and opponent picks game or 2) the game and opponent gets to break. (This format would be reduced from 7w/5l to 5w/3l if more than 32 players, just to keep it to a one day event)
Both 8-Ball & 9-Ball is call pocket (basic BCA rules apply)

Entry Fee
$50.00 Entry Fee with fees coming out of that ($5 greens fees, $5 TD fees & $5 DCC AZB Room added money) If no other tournaments are scheduled and the DCC AZB Room "Top 4" doesn't happen, I'll send all the participants $5 fee and the winners $50 DCC entry fee back)

Payout
Tournament payout to top 25% of field
Calcutta (player auction) payout 1 of every 16 entrants

Example Payout:
32 players x $35 entry= $1,120
32 players x $15 average calcutta= $480

1st- $450 (plus 60% of calcutta, $290)= $740- $50 DCC Entry Fee= $690
2nd-$275 (plus 40% of calcutta, $190)= $465
3rd- $150
4th- $75
5/6th-$50 each ($100)
7/8th-$35 each ($70)

Any takers?
