JAM said:California is on the McCready travel schedule, and I'm hoping we can venture on out there and enjoy some West Coast pool action someday soon.
It would be GREAT to see you make the trek to the U.S. Open, Jimmy! It warms my heart at each U.S. Open when the California players come to play. Last year, a young man from Oklahoma battled his way through a tough field and won the championship title. It's the stuff that pool dreams are made of.
I heard you were just recently married, and it just so happens that the slogan for the Commonwealth State is: "Virginia is for lovers."![]()
Come to the U.S. Open and be all that you can be! Win or lose, you and yours will have a grand old time!![]()

Snapshot9 said:Gabe is from Wichita, Kansas. He grew up here.
He moved to Tulsa, and has split his time between here and there. He came back here for 2 years to work for his Dad, Bob Owen, at Shurtz's Custom Cues. Bob is a partner and cuemaker for Shurtz, and a good friend of mine.
Double J was part of the influence for Gabe to move to Tulsa since they are
such good friends.
Snapshot9 said:Jam ... The reason why I clarified that is because for years, Wichita has been a "AAA" city for Pool, and never seems to get credit for some of the very good players we have here. We always seem to be in the shadow of OKC and Tulsa. Granted both of those cities host some great players off and on, but Wichita has some great students of the sport as well. A few of the players from here have migrated to Oklahoma for tougher competition and the money games down there.
Snapshot9 said:On another subject, I realize most of the regular posters on this board are from Eastern states, and I am a midwesterner, and not well known to other posters (and an ole man in the sport), it would have been nice to have been considered as a candidate for the U.S. Open, although I personally feel that Keith is probably the best qualified for the position.
JAM said:I had not known that, Scott. That's some pretty cool pool factoids!![]()
Which player is heralded as Wichita's best? And what's the best pool room from that State, just for my inquiring mind?![]()
Anybody is qualified to be at the U.S. Open, Scott. That's what makes it kind of a unique tournament: a place where players of all caliber are welcome, with no strings attached. The only thing you have to do is bring your best game! AND you know about Spanish Mike winning it when he 54 years old!![]()
I think the ballots for the U.S. Open aren't sealed yet, or are they? If more monies are committed to come into the player's fund, there are still some open votes out there in AzBilliards Land to be cast. I can't see any reason why you shouldn't put your name on the roster, if you'd like to. I am mailing in two votes with my $50, which has yet to be sent, but I am most definitely committed!

Terry Young, 2 times National Champion and owner of Rumors Billiards here, is a very good player, been awhile, but has beat #5 #6 ranked Pro before. Steve 'Lil Steve' Rector is an excellent player, won State Championship and many tournaments. Mike 'Gumby' Beehler is very good, married now, but still a tough tough 1 hole player. Mark Rogers is very good, and years ago beat all kinds of Pros in Louieville. I watched him in Vegas beat the Mexican National Champion one night for $80 a game, all night
long. Paul Weigand, that owns Shooters here is very good. Of course, I can not forget Cliff 'Junior' Brown, famous around here for 30 years, and the main
subject of Chapter 19 in the Green Felt Jungle when he lived in New Orleans
for 7 years. And even I have a little notoriety, lastly, winning the Kansas
State BCA championship 2 years ago, when I was 55.
