AzB sending a player to the US Open again

I love that kind of talk! :p

I think I remember Gabe's mom posting on this forum a while back with a similar Gabe bio. And I think I remember her mentioning the State of Georgia, but I don't know how it fits in. However, it's always nice to read about a player's roots, especially the current U.S. Open champion.

My post would have been better worded if I had wrote "a young man living in Oklahoma" instead of "a young man from Oklahoma."

I think I now have forum-itis. Symptoms: dyslexic fingers and poor word choices. :)

JAM
Hi Jam, no Georgia for Gabe. His brother was in Atlanta for a year getting his Master's degree at Georgia Tech, but that's it. Gabe was born & raised in Wichita, moved to Tulsa at 18 because of the pool halls & action there, (as well as most our family lives there), he moved back for a year to work with his dad as Scott said, & then moved back to Tulsa a couple years ago. But just recently moved out of Oklahoma again.
So for the past several years he's always said from Oklahoma, because he's basically been there for about 10 years for the most part, since he turned pro while residing there. But Wichita media does alot of publicity on him due to his originally coming from Wichita.
But no Georgia for Gabe. Thanks!

Send this guy!!

My vote is for this guy.

How could you not send him!!

In the interest of giving the winner the best chance to make their plans, lets set a deadline on this thing. On August 1st, I will announce the winner and get in contact with them so that I can get the money to them.

For anyone who wants to donate with a credit card but doesn't have a paypal account, I should be able to accept a credit card donation by Monday of next week.

AzHousePro, I just mailed a check this morning for 50 bucks: 25 from JAM and 25 from Keith McCready. So, as the proverbial saying goes, the check's in the mail! :p

When Is It & "What Am I, Chopped Liver"?

This is the first time I have looked at this thread. When & Where is the US Open & If elected, I may not win but I'll bet I win as much Ca$h as the winner does!

While I'd like to support a local player, and Black-balled is certainly at the top of that list, I think the most important consideration (aside from their excellence at pool) should be their impact and contributions to AZbilliards Forums. Without a doubt, of the candidates suggested, Jude Rosenstock has far surpassed everyone with his helpful, thoughtful posts. My vote is for him!

One more week until we pick a player and get this ball rolling. The race is very close between 2 players right now.

Ugh! May 495 provide much involvement for you!! ;)

No, I think we should just send one player. If we get to $1000 and try to send 2, $500 isn't going to get someone very far.

FWIW, I agree.

I agree! Even a dime is going to be difficult to live off of for the week-long event at the Chesapeake Beach Conference Center. The Holiday Inn, as an example, has a players' rate of $89 plus tax per night, and then, of course, you gotta eat and have a little jingle in your pocket to buy T-shirts and souvenirs! :D

I just want to throw this out as food for thought. There are still MANY U.S. Open qualifiers coming up to get a FREE entry fee. Check out this website: http://usopen9ballchampionships.com/qualify.php

In a nutshell, there are still opportunities available to take a shot at getting that FREE entry fee to the U.S. Open from qualifiers being held coast to coast:

July 30, Oneida Billiard Club, Oneida, TN - $40.00 entry fee
Call 330-498-8422 for more info

July 30-31, Brown's Billiards of Raleigh, Raleigh, NC - $25.00 entry fee
Call David Huffman at 919-878-9092 for more info
[PERFECT FOR BLACK-BALLED!]

August 6, Fiddlestix Billiard Cafe, Canton, OH - $35.00 entry fee
Call Dan & Missy Capestrain 330-498-8422 for more info

August 13, Green Room Billiards, Maple Shade, NJ - $35.00 entry fee
Call Mike Lizzio at 856-482-2227 for more info
[Jude Rosenstock's vicinity, I think]

August 20-21, Pool Paradise Waterloo, Ontario, CA $20.00-$100.00
Call Kenny Chen at 519-884-4969 for more info
[Is this Ontario in CALIFORNIA or CANADA?]

August 20-21, Kolby's Corner Pocket, Tempe, AZ - $50.00 entry fee
Call Christopher Lewis at 480-829-7344 for more info
[AzHouse Pro's neck of the woods ;) ]

August 27, SPORTSMENS Billiard Club, Columbus, OH - $30.00 entry fee
Call Jerry Conkel at 614-279-5888 for more info

There's more than one way to skin a cat, and believe me, getting that 500 smackers FREE is a godsend. :)

JMHO, FWIW!

I agree. Send one so that, hopefully, all expenses are covered.

The winner can also try their hand in the qualifier... If they made it in that way, they would definitely have enough for expenses. ;)

Hey Mike,

Did the credit card thing get set up?
Do I still have time to mail a check?

Thanks,
Andy
