Bad Commentary...

Is it bad etiquette to vent on here over what I feel is the worst commentating I've ever heard? It's so bad that I have had to break away four or five times.

I won't share what stream I am referring to unless I'm told it's okay to vent about it in more specific detail. And for the record, I am grateful for free streaming but a man can only take so much.

Geez, I already feel better just getting this much off my chest.

Best,
Brian kc

lol, its ok to vent :) What was wrong with the commentary? give us at least that much. I think their are a couple of streams going on right now.

don't know how good you've got it . . .

Boy , 200 channels of cable , free pool streaming on the internet , Pool on YouTube on your cellphones . . .
When I was young , there were 4 channels on the TV - ABC ,CBS , NBC , PBS
If you were LUCKY , once every six months you'd get 20 minutes of Pool on Wide World Of Sports , narrated by Howard Cosell , who really didn't know a thing about Pool .
If you don't like the commentary , turn off the sound.
Hopefully , the game can speak for itself !

if it ain't grady, danny d, or pretty boy floyd it ain't commentary!

No way can it be Pro-pool-broadcasting. Dustin it doing a fabulous job all around. I think his work in the booth is second to none. He knows how to cover all the bases. Talking with guests. Promoting sponsers. Solo commentary. Keep in mind he is doing the WPBA event all by himself !

Commentary

It is great to be able to watch free streaming. However, sometimes there is no real commentary on the game itself. Some just seem to think their being cute is what the audience wants, I guess. True enough, we do have the option to mute or go elsewhere. Peace.

The Wide World of Sports.
Now that brings back some memories.
We only got 2 channels. Once in a blue moon that pool would be on and I was glued to the set. The bad part was that you only got little 15 to 20 minute snippets at a time. Twas better than nothing on an old black and white.

Exactly, turn off the sound, get out of the chatroom drama, click full-screen, enjoy free streaming of the WPBA while its still around.
:p

Dustin is one of the best production managers I have ever seen. His production skills are second to none. I don't which stream Kickin was referring to but it doesn't make any difference. When you are running the whole show by yourself, you get stretched rather thin no matter who you are. Do a entire tournament without a crew and you get tired and stretched to your limits in a hurry.

I sympathize with live streamers because they often have to wear so many hats and it isn't always fair to criticize their efforts when they are short-handed and doing the best they can.

Anyway, we should be thankful for a free live stream any time it comes our way and we sure as heck ought to be supporting the sponsors!

My turn to vent, kicken made a good point on 1 subject & all we get is "its a free stream or turn off the sound", dont anyone stay on subject here. He's not knocking free streaming or anything else so save all the spin & i agree with what he's saying & i'll say it was the wpba stream, dustin does a great job commentating till he gets some giggling want to be who couldnt play a radio much less run 5 balls that wants to talk about shoes, hair styles & where theres a sale on latetest fashions.JoeyA knows how to do it & sneek in a story or ect. but stays focused on whats at hand.If you interested, theres a free buffet & all the free beer you can drink but all the food is burnt to a crisp & the beer went flat 2 years ago but whos complaining right, its FREE.

So there's free food, free beer, and a free show! You don't have to eat if you don't like the food, don't drink if you don't like the beer, and don't watch if you don't like the show! Or...don't eat, don't drink and watch the show! And, on subject, the commentators are not professionals, are not getting paid, and are only there to try to contribute for your entertainment. They did the best they could and were better than some others I've heard and not as good as others.
:p

and Allison Fischer and Jasmine Ouschan are starting now...FREE!!, with commentary or not (but Angel Paglia and Belinda Calhoun are commentating).

Give thanks, and let us pray!

People don't really "get," how tough it is to be in that booth, alone! With no dog in the fight, I'd say, "this guy is good with the peripherals." The bad news here is, you gotta know the "Game" and the players real good, too! You can play pretty good and not be able to convey what a pro is going shoot next unless "you think like a pro." And most of the women pros, don't play the same style that most of the men pro's do. That makes it a lot tougher to know what's coming up next!

He's doin' pretty well considerin' all of that! And If he's goin' out and getting his co-anchors, whew!

One thing is certain about pool commentary. No matter what you do someone is not going to like it and someone will say its awesome.

Doing a multi day event by yourself is tough. It is also boring as hell after awhile. For every great interesting match there is at least as many snoozers. Usually the streamer is all on his own and at the mercy of whoever volunteers to sit in. Sometimes the people who most want to sit in are not the ones who should. Tough spot.

The other thing is I dont know too many pro player level streamers. It gets kind of old for a B player to provide analysis after awhile. After the first 10 or 12 hours trying to do a "professional" job (forgetting that professionals get paid) it is VERY easy to start talking to the chat room. If just to keep you awake.

Anymore if I am streaming and stuck doing commentary I will just tell people "If you are looking for Billy Incardona or Grady I am not that guy and I can barely hit the end rail, nothing I tell you is going to improve your game, so go ahead and hit mute if you don't want to talk about how hairy Disco is or who got hammered and went off like a rocket at the dice table last night."

It is a really tough thing. I do not know the answer. The novelty of doing commentary has worn off and many pro's would rather just go rest or do whatever instead of sitting down to call a match. I cant say as I blame them. Even the ones who do sit down regularly can not be scheduled or counted on because their focus is not on the stream, they are there to play a tournament.

When you do things on very little to no money it is what it is. You ever see the credits after a tv show or football game and wonder what in the hell all those people do? They are the reason those broadcasts look and sound the way they do and it takes most of them to do it. And they all are paid a good wage to do it. To compare one guy with a little gear to them or even Accu-Stats is unfair.

professional commentators??? When my plumber explains whats wrong with my plumbing he is a professional comentator as long as he stays on subject & explains the problem,he dont say you got a leak & by the way, their having a sale on mulch which will be great for the roses thats on sale at pete's flower shop & since your there looking, the golf store 1 block away has all the latest clubs on sale. Also, being a professional commentator just means your getting paid to talk, dont even have to know what the subject is or how to spell it so that point is moot.Im not tring to start a pissing match, just tring to address kickinchicken's point & the tried & true answer that it free(which i think he knew the whole time he was watching).

Don't feel bad, Chicken. I've yet to see any of this amateur commentary that I thought was interesting. It always sounds to me like people are trying to use pool lingo as much as possible like they think it's colorful or something. Irritates the sh!t right outta me.

"Yeah, he hit that pretty sporty"

MULLY
ugggghhhh!!!
