BCAPL's move?

2012 will be my first year attending the BCA Nationals. What can I do to maximize my stay at the Riviera?

BCAPL's move to Rio in July 2013

We are not at the Rio for 22 months from now. We will not be promoting the rates and all that until after the may 2012 event at the Riviera.

We don't want to confuse our players - but we are very aware of the issues about room rates.

There are a lot of things we will have to work out over the next 1-1/2 years as we get ready for the new venue.

If you want more info, go to www.playbca.com and click on the link about the move. There is some pretty good info there.

I for one am super excited about this move! I was able to stop over at the RIO during the WSOP this summer (Which will finish right before we truck in 100's of pool tables) and it was absolutely amazing! The giant conference rooms are huge in size and gorgeous! There are 2 giant ones right across the hall from each other. The hallways are huge with really nice bathrooms up and down the halls. 20+ restaurants onsite is going to be very nice. (No peppermill, but you could always cab over there some night if you really need a 12 egg omelet).

When walking through the gaming area, it was packed full of young attractive people and all the games were going off with full tables. They had great music, many bar areas (better than the old Riv bar that was removed a few years ago).

It's closer to the Airport than the Riv. Has FREE shuttles to the Strip and is actually closer walking distance to nice resorts like The Bellagio.

The Riv is unfortunately at the wrong end of the strip. With Sahara closing down, Circus Circus not keeping up and the giant blue billion dollar building next door that isn't going to be bringing any more business soon, it's gonna be tough for them.

Also, very close by you have the Gold Coast Hotel (with a huge bowling alley), and the Palms and Playboy Towers. Palms has GhostBar on the top floor with a glass floor you can walk out on, RAIN night club is huge and packed with hottie's!

Review of The Rio

I've been attending the BCA for the last few years with my husband, who plays, and I've just been reading some reviews of the Rio on Tripadvisor.com. Sorry, the place sounds disgusting. Plus it sounds like the whole trip is going to cost a whole lot more, regardless of what the room rate might be.

Not sure what your asking, Gary Benson has not been involved with the BCAPL Nations the past 3years

Meh, last time I was in Vegas was 2 1/2 years ago and I went into Paris and was less then impressed with the place. It has an amazing location, it has reasonalbly cool architechture and a theme, but the place was quite dirty with empty glasses sitting on ledges on walls, trash on the floor, and very few people in the place...

If I am staying in that area of the Strip and trying to do it a little cheaper then Bellagio I will normally look at the Flamingo.

The Riviera is not so much a dump as just tremendously outdated. Vegas has totally passed by the Riv with it's small casino, multiple small touwers, and extremely tiny and boring pool. The Riv unlike more Vegas casinos has no theme at all. If they actually used the casino's name and built the place around a tropical paradice theme they might have had a chance, but that is new Vegas, not old, and old is simply getting killed.

For a true dump the last time I was in Vegas The Luxor shocked the crap out of me, that place is absolutely gross. Most of the retail is vacant, there were skids sleeping on benches, the place was an absolute mess and dirty as hell, half of the attractions were closed, it was bloody depressing, the place is being totally run down into the ground. They need new management in there and a very strong push to rejuvinate that casino with a major facelift/reno because right now it is simply brutal.

I have been going to Sin City since I was a kid in the 50's tagging along with my parents. Las Vegas use to be clean, people dress up to go to Las Vegas, you say people standing in line to get into a show Dress in suits, or slacks & A sport Coat & Tie, and Ladies in Nice Dresses, or Evening Gowns, and the STRIP was always clean.

When you went into any of the Casinos or Hotel the personal were dress, in near & press uniforms. It was kind of a Adult Version of a Disney Amusement Park.

Today the Strip is NASTY, you have people running around Vegas in Cut Off & Flip Flops, and no one really seams to give a rats about what made Las Vegas.

People stand in the same lines for show, but some of the people look like escapees from the local homeless shelter. To me Las Vegas has lost a lot of it glitter that was what was special about Las Vegas.

Mark asked you politely to stop bashing the Riv and yet you still posted two more times bashing the Riv. And yet you haven't been there in over 3 years you said. If you went last year, your tune would be WAY different as they have made great changes.

And now you are bashing Vegas!

REALLY??

Get the fvck out of this important and informative thread.

Yes, I'm not as nice as Mark right now because you are out of line over and over in this thread.

Rock on, girl! Maybe he might listen to you....

Were All Men,

Were all men now, lets call a spade a spade, the right envelope was dropped off to the the wright people and puff there you have it. Its not up to us, the people who pay the bill , its up the royal court sitting on the mountain dropping us crumbs.

Not sure what the last post is about
I am also surprised that most of the chatter on here is about where people stay. I thought most of the talk would be about the dates. Moving from May to July, I think is awesome

It will be hotter for sure. It will probably also allow more people to attend cuz the kids will be out of school.

I wonder if this also means a change in the dates for the 10 Ball and One Pocket Championships to coincide with the BCAPL Nat'ls. I would assume so.

back on subject, the rio has rooms that are nice and spacious. me and the wife stayed here back about 6 years ago. The buffet here is pretty strong. It regularly gets top marks in a city filled with high quality buffets. The pool area is also much much better than the Riv. Not that any of us true pool players see the light of day during a good tournament. U will be able to spot us pool players there at the pool....all pasty white and looking like vampires who woke up too early.

Hi Dog's Playing Pool :) Yep the US Open 10-Ball and US Open One Pocket Championships, since they are also CSI produced events will be moving to the Rio in 2013 alongside the BCAPL Nationals.

Also...Cocobolo (aka Bruce) has been what he is for years. I knew him when I lived in AZ and he relished being as much a pain there as he is on the AZBForums.

Stuckart...great post with lots of wonderful info.

The convention center at the Rio is also adding approximately 53,000 additional square feet of space to the CSI / BCAPL events. At the Riv we use roughly / give / take 107,000...the Rio 160,000.

For all you fine folks who will miss the Peppermill...here is an option at the Rio that you might like, the San Paolo Cafe is fantastic for breakfast and lunch, great food and sharable portions much like the Peppermill. Also the All American Cafe is great and serves from 11 am - 6 am for all you folks who find yourself needing a bite at 4 am. I've eaten at both places :) love the brown sugar vanilla cream oatmeal at San Paolo and their pancakes give Kady's the 7 easy.

Holly, I know this is way early, but I'm curious if you can tell us if there is a particular tower or set of rooms that is closer to the venue area for when we make reservations so we can put in a location request. As you know, depending on where your room us located, it can still be quite far.
