I am going to be signing off shortly and may not have computer access over the weekend - heading out for NJ.

So before leaving I wanted to say to my fellow east coast az'ers, please remember to have your flashlights handy with good batteries and an alternate way to keep your beers cold, in case the power does go out.

Stay safe, everybody.

Best,
Brian kc

Have a safe trip Brian!

Eh.

Cautious, yes. Big worries, we'll see.

That's the difference between summer storms and winter storms.... if we lose power in the winter, we can always throw the beer in a snowbank to keep'em cold!

Take care, everyone. The projections seem to think it'll only be a tropical storm when she gets up here, but down below us, be careful. Looks as mean as any in recent years, at least to get this far up the coast.

Justadub I am hearing it will just be a lot of rain for us up here. Big shocker, like we haven't had torrents of rain already the last week or so! :D

I work right on the coast, so folks around here are cautious, even when it's "only" tropical storm level stuff. We had the same thing happen last year, (I forget what the name of that storm was) and two unfortunate tourists in Acadia National Park got washed out to sea from the surges and died. And that storm wasn't as strong as what we could have this time.

Conversely, we are rather used to nor'easters, so we don't get too worked up about the weather. At least those of us that are native to the area don't... :p The grocery stores sure like them.

Be careful, folks. You don't have to get crazy, just cautious.

Good luck you guys. Irene looks like a nasty one on the weather charts.
I hope it doesn't extend in as far as NO this time.

Eastern parts of Canada are even bracing for this one.

I'll be at work all weekend long. Day and night! Got my bed at work ready, hope it's just another case of overreaction by the weathermen on TV. I'm on the East coast in VA, so I'm hoping for the best! Good luck to all of my fellow AZ'ers that are also on the East coast and in the path of Irene. Be safe!

I just got back from Myrtle Beach 6 days ago. I wish the best to all that
may be affected. Good luck guys.

Irene!

I live in Charleston, SC right on the coast and I sweat Hurricanes every year hoping we don't get hit again like we did in 1989 by Hurricane Hugo which ran right over Charleston. I didn't have electricity for over a month after that storm and I hope I never have to go through that again.

We were spared being hit by Hurricane Irene and it's scimming by us at this moment and I hope everyone will be OK who will be taking a more direct hit by this huge storm.

We are prepared as much as possible. We're just outside of Phila......We're gonna be stuck in the house and..............................the pool table is down.....rails are being replaced:crying::crying::crying::crying::crying:

We're doing the best we can here to prepare but damned if you can't find a D battery anywhere!

Irene sure is a big mo-fo of a storm. Here's to hoping it calms down on the way up the coast as we're in line for almost a direct hit. We're waiting to hear if even the normally non-flooding areas should evacuate. I'm hoping to know more in the am. So far they're saying that if your area floods normally you should head out of town asap. I think we'll be OK based on what we've heard so far about my area but if not I'm heading north-northwest to destination "anywhere but here" with my family, oh and my cues too. Hmm...the 14.1 championship is north of here...maybe I can convince the wife and 2 year old. If not, I'll try to catch it on a stream from destination safer than here and good luck to all that can make it there.

Craziness...first the earthquake left cracks in a lot of houses here and now Hurricane Irene will fill them with water. Way to leak test a house mother nature!

Good luck to everybody in the line of this thing!

Godspeed to all our East Coast friends!

Prayers being sent. May there be :angel2:'s looking out for you.

Ray

I wanted to pop in here and say, man do I have respect for what Mother Nature can do.

This is the first time I have been able to come on here since Irene has had me otherwise occupied.

Thanks to those who inquired on how I was doing. I appreciate it.

I have plenty to catch up on since being stuck down in NJ for longer than expected.

Yeah, Irene wasn't the worst of them but she sure was mean.

Best,
Brian kc

Irene was mean enough

Irene hit southern Maryland hard enough.

Saturday night I had an oak tree in my dining room. We got it out on Monday, and I had two contractors here to give me quotes on replacing the roof and wall in my dining room.

Pool is on hiatus for the time being.

It was pretty much a big bust here in western Maine. The wind was going but nothing too ridiculous, just lots and lots of rain (heavy rain, two days straight basically). A bunch of branches/leaves down in the yard, and trees took out some powerlines around the area. But I honestly think that thunderstorm we had in late July was way worse, as far as wind and "oh my god hope the house doesn't get destroyed" feeling. :)
