NOW THE POINT,
What Robley "AZ-HORSE of the Year 2009" Fontenot is trying to say, is who is the best NON-PRO bar box player in Louisiana?
He was listing say pro speed like say SCOTTIE T as an "A" just like an A is the best grade you can get in school 100/100.
Everyone below that pay grade is open for debate. So "B" players on down, it was just a bad choice of rating system he used, it would have been better for you to say "
who's the best non pro bar box player in Louisiana", so lets just not worry about little details like that, and just answer his question.
The Best Non-Pro Bar-Box player in 9 ball in Louisiana I would definately have to say to my knowledge is Gary Abood. No one north of I-10 plays close to his speed, I don't include Jamie Farrell in the category mostly because I've never seen him play on the 7', and I think he is the most fully complete player in the state under Scottie T (even tho scottie don't live here) and consider his Overall speed professional caliber(very solid at any game period)
Ricky Poo Poo can't beat Abood, Chris Miller plays at least 2 balls weaker give or take a piece depending on the day. Mike Black doesn't win either, and close to the same as Miller, but gaining more of an edge over chris b/c of his ability to move pretty well.(
whats the line on Eddie Brown...do you know troy??) Fish-hook still plays the same as he did 6yrs ago, so thats a no go and he needs weight from everyone above. There aint really much for a choice for players in this except for Louisiana's original authentic SULTAN ABOOD lol
Now that's just 9 ball, I'm sure gary wins at the 8 ball too, maybe the only person giving him trouble here is mike black who I know plays a little one hole so that should make his 8 ball patterns sharp(least I would like to think) I'll say this, I think Gary's better b/c he's the more complete player all around than all the others, not b/c he is such a better ball pocketer necessarily.
The real situations are always found on the big table tho, any dink can run out 9 ball on the box. At the white diam. tourney (SUPER GREAT EVENT) I find it turns into a who can make a ball on the break contest, I've seen many matches lost from some better players to worse ones b/c nothing fell on the break. I saw quite a many matches go the way of the player who lost the toss, and the opponent dry breaks and the latter runs out, saw quite a few like this end 6-7. Fact is ALOT of players can beat alot of other much better players on a bar box especially if the break is going their way, its the MINI-Equalizer lol.
I don't think you swill see true speed, or fully realize a players true skill level till they get on the big track. I also think 8 ball is a better show of a players true ability on a bar box over 9 ball. You have more congestion, more options and choices and you have to move furniture, break out balls, play safe just as good as in 9 (maybe more so)
Here's a good example, Gary played Shane McMinn at the Galveston Amateur 8 ball, and Shane double dipped Gary to win the title. First off lets just say that Gary and Shane are of equal shootin skill just for easiness sake. Shane is a very very good one-pocket player, and can handily out move Gary because of this. Thats why Shane won the 8 ball, not cuz he shot better, Gary was outclassed by a more complete player, Shane beat him with better choices, cuz neither one of them miss alot as you all know.
Anyways I'm rambling and jumping to different topics, Gary's the best non pro bar box player here. Chris, Ricky, Fishhook, Mike B, even youself Robley( maybe about a dozen players -/+) can beat Gary in those short races to 7 (9ball) if things fall into place... but your not going to see Gary locking everyone out of those small sets like that, he will just outclass the townsfolk and win most matches by a safe margin, give him some ground to cover tho and you got a much bigger problem.
