I want everyones opinion on the best hitting cues for $900 to $1200 bucks. So lets have it what is the best hitting for the price?

There are two nice Sugartrees here in the AZ actually for sale in the range of 1200.- with 2 shafts. That would be my suggestion...

I think all cues in that price range hit beautifully. You just have to try as many as possible and pick a favorite. I like Chuck Starkey cues and they cost less than that.

a cue worth at least US$900 IS EXPECTED to hit solid and better than good. IMO. :)

i am sure you won't find it hard to find one. good luck on your cue hunt!

Why are we always so concerned with the 'best'! Why can't we be concerned with our own best inside us instead?

Who's the best pool player, who's the best action better, who's the best streamer, who's the best cue maker........ we should learn to encapsulate the industry as a whole and appreciate all these people who bring joy into our lives instead of singling out one best above all else. If you're going to give that title give it to God and let the rest of us enjoy creating art with our lives......

Find a picture of a cue that you like and also state what you're looking for in the cue concerning 'hit, feedback' joint type, and especially shaft taper and tip/ferrule.

You could have the best hitting cue for no more than a few hundred bucks. If you wanted fancy, and good hitting Mike Lambros is probably one of the few guys who has mastered the art of the 'sweet hit' regardless of how fancy his cues get. Eddie Prewitt, Laurie Franklin, Dennis Searing, Andy Gilbert, are people who just know how to make a cue. Start with one of those and work your way around.

Most importantly, without knowing, guess by eye and intuition what you think would suit you the most and just buy it and experience it. If you don't like it, you can always get something else. The longer you wait, the more time you waste, and the less you will know about what your favorite is.

First-hand experience and true knowledge is the only way you're going to really know the taste and flavor. When it comes to cues there are many tastes and flavors to enjoy, and there is no such thing as 'best'. Our country is so concerned with 'best', and that is very shallow. Who's the top chef, who's the top model, who's the best looking, what's the best computer, what's the best car. People who chase those things are all shallow people. People who are too concerned with external best do so because their own best is not in their heart.

Experience things as a whole, and with balance and get in touch with what your taste is. In order to know the taste of a good watermelon, you must first select it by eye and guess which one would be sweet. You will never know how sweet it will be unless you cut into the watermelon and experience the taste fully, but if you just lick all over the outside of the watermelon, you can never really have 'true knowledge'. Also, watermelon may be my favorite fruit, but that doesn't mean it is the 'best'. Good luck.

A few "playing" cues that I would recommend:

Cory Barnhart, Tim Scruggs, Mike Johnson (Jensen), Joe Callaluca, Bluegrass, Steve Klein, Kenny Murrell, Jeff Olney....and lots of others.

You can find cues from each of these guys within your price range.

I have cues by a couple of them ( www.bamacues.com ) and they would fall within your range.

Several great ones already mentioned, Travis at BlackCreek makes a great player!

My buddy Tommie151 has this Madden listed under you range, if you never hard of Jack Madden I suggest you check out his web-site, and oh yes he is also one of the few cuemaker to ever be a TOP PLAYER. So he know how a Cue should work, and build them to do just that!

Cues that play very good

Mike Webb, Tony Zinzola, Woody Woodworth, Mike Gulyassy, BlueGrass, Jensen, Carmeli, S&S (Paul Sumrall), Josey, Sly, BCM (Bryan Mordt), Steve Lomax, Klein & a few others.

Find the right cue for your style of play & hone your skills.

Since no one has mentioned it yet I will throw in Andy Gilbert. He makes a very solid hitting cue.

I would add Pete Ohman and Jerry Rauenzahn to those that have already been mentioned. I have two Omen's and an -R- that are my daily players

A lot of great recommendations here. I'd second the recommendation for a Sugartree - they look great and hit better.

The takeaway is that in that price range you can get a cue from nearly any cuemaker, excepting only the very biggest/rarest names. Some may be fancier than others at that price point but you can take your pick as to the hit.

The best advice I can give is to talk to everyone you know and try to hit with as many different cues as you can. When you find the hit that's right for you, you'll know it.

gilbert...

For $1200 shipped, I have got a wonderful 6-point hoppe style Gilbert cue....ebony into bird's eye maple with veneers...solid black linen wrap...two shafts...ivory joint and hoppe ring. This cue is a few years old, but still like new condition.

Feel free to PM me if any interest...can get some images later today.

Go

GO TO A SHOW, like the Super Billiard Expo and flash your cash, and actually PLAY with the cues before you buy them!!!

I played with several cues from 1000-10000 I would have bought here on AZ, (well not the 10K, just dreaming of it), that actually played like crap (to me!)
