I'm looking for a break cue and I'm not a fan of Phenolic tips. Any suggestions? Thanks.

The Mace Jump Break mae by Rick Howard, he was one the first to make a Jump Break Cue back in the 1980's Johnny Archer used one for many years. If you decide to buy one contact Rick directly I think they are around $375.

Take care

Mr Cat. I started off with a break/jump with a phenolic tip. Then a breaker with a one piece linen phenolic. A little softer hit and a bit better cue ball control. I bought a couple of Eliminator sneakys off EBay for 20 a piece. I put a harder ferulle material on one and a Super Pro tip on it. Total cost was
$20.50. I consistantly pocket balls off the break as well as anyone using an expensive BK. The cue isn't much better than a house cue with the exception of the tip. How does this work? I don't know, I'm still scratching my head.

The OB breaker comes with a leather tip from Samsara that is awesome in my opinion. It breaks as hard as phenolic, but controls the rock well also.

Of course, you can put a Samsara on your current breaker or any cue for just a few $$$$.

I've got a BK2 & a Stinger that have leather tips installed by the maker.

Steve Lomax hands down. Th ferrule on his jump break or break cues are phenolic BUT the tip is actually the hard layered samsara tip. I recently ordered one from Steve and he was great to deal with. Go with Lomax.

You seem to be talking about two different things. You asked about a jump cue, but you said you didn't like a phenolic tip.
The Samsara JB tips are the nuts. Put one on your choice of Jump or JB cue and you'll get great performance from your tip. The cue... separate issue, but...
My Lomax jump cue is great & I put a Samsara tip on it. btw - if Steve is installing the Samsara tip now it is a change. His stock tip has always been a "special" phenolic - that's what he told me it was. I don't like phenolic either.

Look into Ned Morris custom cues. I think his new j/b is called the Pile Driver. I tryed them out in Vegas and they jump and break really really well! He uses a really hard leather tip and puts olive wood in the core of the cue so the natural oils keep the pin threads from ever drying out.

Mezz Powerbreak DI without a doubt.

I don't know what kind of tip that is, but it's not a phenolic all in one ferrule. That thing creates so much force, but you can still control the cueball very well.
But it's just a break cue like the BK2.
For jumping I'd suggest a Franz Hauber custom. He's the godfather of jumpcues and started making 102cm cues from the very first year when they've banned these insane shaft only jumps over here in Germany.
Normal ferrule with either hard leather or G10 tip, I don't know. Jumps effortless and you can easily put draw on the whitey

Fury JB series comes stock with a carbon-graphite ferrule/tip unit

The Fury JB (jump/break) series is actually an extremely good break cue, and comes stock with a carbon-graphite ferrule/tip unit. The leather wrap extends almost all the way to the butt-cap, right up to the Fury logo.

There's a previous descriptive write-up about these (and other) break cues here, in this previous thread:

"Need some Break Cue advice....the value kind, not the $$$$$ kind."

In fact, you may want to read through all the posts in the above-linked thread, because it will probably answer any questions, and provide other options as well. It will cut-down on some of the redundancy.

Hope this is helpful!

Thanks Manwon, appreciate it.

What ever J/B cue you decide on i'd recommend using a Sumo Water Buffalo tip on it. I was having control problems with my jump shots using a phenolic ferrule and I installed a Sumo tip on it and cut the tip down low on the sides and it works great. I still get a powerful break and my jump shots are more controllable with the thin leather tip. The Sumo tips are hard tips made of solid leather.

I just had a SuperPro tip put on my Gulyassy Jump/Break a couple of days ago . . . due to the BCA's banning of phenolic tips.

I've had a White Diamond on an old Fury for a break cue at the house, but this Super Pro is really good. Still has a pretty stiff hit compared to a phenolic (its an ultra hard RED leather) but you get a lot more control and a much better jump. Well worth a try - mine was $15 installed . . . funny thing is that I can break just about as well with a stout, heavy ass bar cue as any $300 break cue . . .

The Pete Ohman jump break is still the best I have ever used. Anybody can hop over a ball, but only a few allow you to really hit your target once past the obstruction. The Omen j/b has a forearm that is proportioned differently to allow superior aiming. Pete has a hardened non-phenolic tip option too. I just tried it and found that it jumped well, held chalk like a normal leather tip, and even allowed me to draw the ball if desired.

I own 3 right now. No disappointments.
