Just curious who the best player that could compete with the non-working full time playing pro's is/was?? Just to be clear I am not asking about the local guy who hit xxxxx with a 7 pack but someone who actually played and won in pro events?? Then only to return to work. I know the "deacon" was up there, anyone else?

Cuemaker Dennis Searing plays pretty sporty. He slaves over his machines 60-80 hrs per week and never practices and can spot most of the locals the farm with the cows included and still like it.

Dennis makes a great cue, but never seen him play. Notice you're playing with a blackcreek. How do you like it? Oh...and what are custom fitted "OBs"?

Steve Mizerak won most all his world championships...while working full time as a grade school teacher...can you just imagine how well he would have played...if he played all the time?

Cranfield had a full-time job. I think Dan Louie was never a full-time player. I think Bob Vanover was in the furniture business. He may still hold the record for the Texas State 9-ball championships, where I think he ran 9-and-out on his opponent in a race to 9.

A local here in Chicago and friend of mine,Mike Bandy, played pretty dang sporty in his day.He is a full time father of 5 I believe and still plays jam up,but I am sure he isn't at the speed he was back in the 80's and 90's.He works full time as an electrician.
Another one that I would pick is Jamie Farrell. Now lives in Jackson,MS I believe. When he lived around here,I would practice with him in his basement. The pockets on his gold crown had so many chims that it looked and played just like a snooker table.Dead serious.I am telling you that he never missed a ball when I played him.

Nope, not until a certain beer commercial came along, past his prime!

I was also going to say Mizerak. Didn't Irving Crane sell cars for a while?

I heard Dennis once ran 16 racks of 8 ball on a bar table. Not sure it is true but I played him in Vegas & he has game.

Mike Bandy (Chicago) & Greg Fix (Minnesota & I believe he was some kind of engineer) are the two best working pool players I know here in the midwest. Gene Albretch plays pretty sporty and I think Mark Jarvis owns a construction company now. Not sure when Mark was playing at his top if he was working or not. If Mark did work & play like he did 20 years ago, he would be the best I know of.

Steve Mizerak was a schoolteacher when he won his four World 14.1 titles in a row in the early 70's.

Irving Crane was a Cadillac salesman throughout the second half of his career. Bob Vanover worked full time running a large furniture store and still played right there with the big boys, and won a few Senior Tour events. They finally banned him from the BCA Seniors because he was so dominant.

George Breedlove runs an outdoor furniture making factory and can still hang with the big dogs. Ernesto Dominguez has worked full, full time repairing and recovering pool tables for well over 15 years. And he can still step up and play right there with the best players in the world with little if any practice. Granted he has a tight pocket table at home.

Mike Bandy has always been one of the best bar table players alive for the last 20 years. And has somehow managed to stay below the radar.

I believe years back Juan Garcia from Michigan, was consider'd the best pool player who worked a full time job.

George Breedlove has to be up there in the top 5 guys who work a fulltime job and still shoot top notch pool.

Steve Mizerack back when he was a school teacher.

B.J. Ussery from North Carolina also works full time, at least he did last time I spoke to him. Between tournaments, he still takes time out to give rides to aspiring younger players to weekly 9-ball tournaments, being a pool mentor of sorts. He's a good guy, and he can hit 'em pretty sporty too! :p

Rempe has owned a business for years, and is one of the few players that have been married most all his playing years to the same woman, that may in itself be a bigger accomplishment.
