Biloxi Mike Murdered!!!!

I am also frustrated and bewildered why they can't release the name and picture of the "person of interest" so he can be outed, and why it took them 3 days to announce this was a homicide. Maybe I'm giving the police too much credit, but I have to believe there is a reason for this. Could it be that they've known all along who this individual is and just don't want to spook him? That they have had him under surveillance the whole time and waiting for him to make a "move", like trying to hock cue sticks, or something like that so they can get a search warrant, and build a stronger case against the guy? After all, all they have against him is circumstantial evidence that he was in fact with Mike when they left the pool hall. Of course to most, including me, the circumstances make it clear that this person is the culprit. Maybe they are just taking their time to build a stronger case against him. If they arrest him prematurely he may "lawyer up", and they'll get nothing else. Maybe I'm wrong and I've just read too many true crime books, or watched too many detective shows on TV, but I have to believe the cops are on this guy and he will be in custody soon.

You are probably right IF THEY HAVE BEEN IN CONTACT with the person of interest or had him under surveillance. They are probably doing what good police do, building a case or eliminating persons of interest.

I am reading this thread and speechless.

My thoughts and prayers are with his friends and family during this very difficult time. :(

I wonder if the cops realize that his cues are a very very important evidence, 99.99999234234% of the people in America think a cue is a cue, so its safe to think the cops do as well. When the cops bust someone they photograph their tattoos. In Mikes world and here we can post up a few cue pic and tie them to the owner, just like a tattoo.

This is critical that the cops are educated that if that property was missing(the cues), they have a much better chance of catching the guy, I doubt he killed Mike to make his cue collection bigger. He has to sell them, granted they dont have serial numbers but think of how many people you know and the cue they use. Someone MUST educate the cops, stolen cues are better evidence than stolen stero equipment.

If the cues arnt gone then the pool community has little to offer the cops. Ao the bottom line is someone in the area who knows Mike and his cues needs to contact the police and enquior about the cues, that will sharpen the focus of the investigation.

I'm still mad as hell about this, I havent got to the sad part yet, I'm just pissed off beyond words. I only ever saw him around and I know he was a top notch person. Pool is like a big family, we all dont like each other, some of us love each other. Some of us disappear for years(me and now Keith), but the point is were a big family who lost a member for nothing!!! and that pisses me off

Was the owner of the poolroom told not to let a picture of the man in question out. If their is video of him at the pool room or outside then it would not be difficult to print a picture of him and not wait for the police to let one out. I know lots of law enforcement official's and know that they will not let out information while building a case because it might jeopardize all they have worked for. This being said, if an anonymous person does so then there is nothing really out of line, right ? It's kinda like the police turning the other cheek when some is missing and a family or friend open's their house. Just something to think about.

One more thing, does anyone else think it would be a good idea for this thread to be on the 1st page permanently. Maybe a sticky or something. I dont think it has surpassed the 2nd maybe 3rd page yet but it would be nice to be able to find it quick when you log on, as this is the one that seems to have the most information.

I'd be quite sure the owner of the pool room would be instructed not to release any information. Any beligerence in this area (not implying it is the case) could be met with criminal charges of hindering and or the obstuction of justice.

Obviously, at this point in the investigation, the police don't want the "person of interest" picture released, or it would have been already.

My condolences to Mike's family and friends.
Usually the police know more than they let on. They don't want the guy to run hard and go into deep cover. It won't be long before someone spots his truck. Maybe they've tied a string to him already.

I spoke with Lt. Flowers of the Ocean Springs, Miss. police dept. today. They're still keeping the investigation status close to the vest, but it sounds like they have some good leads. Evidently the presumed suspect (my phrase) has left a paper trail in Jackson, Miss., and also Atlanta.

I gave the lieutenant a complete description of the presumed suspect, and was able to provide some possible other insights. He wants to meet with me, and also the other friend of Mike's who was present during the discussion between Mike and the presumed suspect. They are interviewing everyone who may have come into contact with the guy. If I can get any information from the police that I'm given permission to pass along, I certainly will.

The lieutenant was made aware of the potential vast audience available for posting pictures or other clues via the pool websites. I got the impression that he would like to take advantage of that when they're ready to release photos.

Fatboy phoned today and gave some helpful hints about what course to take if Mike's cues were stolen. But it has not been learned by most of us whether or not any cues were stolen.

Mike's funeral arrangements are posted in another thread.

The thing that raises my curiosity is: what made the killer target Mike when you have others in the room. To me it appeared that the killer 'Jarico' targetted mike.On the contrary, if the killer targetted mike why did he leave his foot prints everywhere and he simply could have gone to Mike`s house when it is dark and finish the job. There is some thing unusual about the whole thing.I do know that even the serial killers who premeditated, some times left their foot prints everywhere. My fear is that this killer is going to strike again and I am guessing that it will be a female next time.I am also predicting that he will be arrested with in three months.

police

I apologize for my premature proclamation of confidence in the police in post #140. If I understand GulfportDoc's post they haven't even set up a meeting with him yet. He's had to practically beg them to listen to his information and suggestions. My God, Doc, considering what you observed and overheard last Tuesday at Skeeter's you are a crucial material witness and one of a handful of people that actually saw the man and can positively ID him. I assumed they had already probably identified and possibly located this "person of interest". Evidently they have been spending their time investigating Mike's lifestyle and comings and goings instead of looking for the lowlife that killed him. Jackson, Atlanta, what are they waiting for, the trail to go cold???? Thank you, Doc, for trying your damndest to help and please keep us informed of any new developments.......

It just makes my heart hurt more every time I see the picture of him
smiling with the happy eyes.
I still can't believe any of it, it just makes me sick that anyone could
have hurt such a nice guy.

It was a great magazine article, I just looked for it on line yesterday.

Great remembrance article about Mike

They had two of these articles, each one three hours apart when posted online.

This article, from the same source, has more details in it about his life:

http://www.sunherald.com/local/story/1749361.html

Jen:

This is by far the best article to come out, and also the best photo of Mike to boot. In fact, if there were some kind of remembrance site to be erected for Mike, excerpts from the story in the article should be included (with publisher's permission, of course).

I agree with Barb; that picture of Mike's smiling face pulls at the heart -- how can something so unjust befall such a kind being as Mike?

Anyway, I encourage everyone to read the article that Jen found. It does a great job at remembering Mike.

(And Grady, or Steve Booth, if you're reading this, perhaps something of a tribute/remembrance can be erected over at OnePocket.org ?)

Well, I was going to say the police haven't released the photo because they don't need our help in identifying anyone...but this post makes me very uneasy. I agree with lowgear: HTH have they not talked to everyone at the pool hall?!?!?!? It's been a week!

If the show "48 Hours" taught me anything, it taught me that the first 48 hours are critical to the success of any investigation. After that, you have to get lucky to catch the perp. What do you have to be if you've waited a week to talk to key witnesses?

I just wrote to The Nancy Grace Show.

It's a long shot, but, if my e-mail gets noticed, the way I have written it, Nancy Grace might be able to help shine a light on this tragic and senseless murder.

I'm talking about putting the heat on. SOMEBODY out there knows something, maybe not aware that this "something" is connected to this.

If anybdoy else is so inclined to write to Nancy Grace, here is the link: http://www.cnn.com/feedback/forms/form5.html?81

Writing to Nancy Grace, though I know is a long shot, sure does beat sitting back and doing nothing, watching nothing unfold. :sorry:

Thanks for the link, JAM. A nice read.

Anybody know the years he was in Arlington, VA? Was the pool room he worked at as a young'n there too?

I just got a robot reply from The Nancy Grace Show:

Well, it can't hurt.

Thanks for doing this Jen. Like you, I favor the pro-active approach. I'm all for the police and support their investigation, but sometimes it is civilians who help solve crimes with their valuable information and insights.

The First 48 Hours must not be on TV there or something. The black chick in Memphis gets the bad guy all the time, she dosent waste anytime, she is triple smart and gets the confessions during the interrogations,. To bad she isnt down there-she might have the guy already, not goting to the pool room a week after, PFFFFTTT he might just be in Zimbabwe by now.

Sounds like the cops need a swift kick in the ass down there, or its the Chiefs brother-in-Law they are covering up for. honestly they dont seem to care...
