Bocote Cue

I've got my eye on a Bocote Sneaky Pete witha black Irish linen wrap. The pics have me salivating over it. I have never seen a Bocote cue in person....do they look as good as the pictures suggest?

It's a love-it-or-leave-it style of wood & I happen to love it. The wild grain really pops when finished properly. I'd not hesitate in buying it if you like the pics. It's very likely to look better in person.

Bocote is AWESOME. Take a look at my Willee Cue with octogonal handle and my Arnot Matched Set.

Some pieces of Bocote have awesome figure.

I also like how Bacote hits. Many people do not like the wood, since there are more showy woods out there, but Bacote is my second favorite wood for a cue - only behind ebony!!

If you like how it looks - buy it!! Otherwise you will regret it, especially if you do not get another chance at it.

A sneaky pete with a linen wrap? LOL! Kevin Varney had a wrapless Bocote cue with him at the GSBT tournament in Inman, SC. Made me drool, I can tell you! Honestly, pictures don't do this wood justice, you need to see it in person.

8ball48043- Those are beautiful. Bocote is certainly an "acquired taste"....and I've acquired it.

Bacote is a very rare wood, and is almost as rare as Gaboon wood, which is named after the well know snake, the Gaboon viper. This particular snake attacks in a very unusual manner. It lies perfectly still, beside a path, and when some unsuspecting soul walks by it jumps up and bites them in the gaboon. Hence the name. :wink:

I personally don't like Bacote in a cue. Don't really know why, just something about it. It's not very appealing to me. Guess this post isn't very helpful though.. nevermind.

Some people don't like it because some bocote is colored like baby poo! Seriously tho', I have yet to meet a bocote cue that I did not like the hit of.

I have one made of a Brazilian Bocote called Louro Preto...looks like nothing but little birdseyes everywhere!

I asked Mike Johnson (Jensen Cue) to make me a player and choice of wood was up to him. He said his favorite is Mexican Bacote but a lot of of cuemakers don't like working with it because it is oily. True to his years of experience the cue has a nice feel and sound to it. There is something to the sound that makes the cue sound the same as the CB hitting the OB. You hear that click click like a echo.

I would say buy it and you will be happy if you want a player with a nice feel and a good sound to the hit.

The wood of my cue looks like the one in post #12. It is that darker color. I have Mike's SS joint, black leather wrap, ivory ferules and of course his milk dud tips.
