boys dressing badly

I don't want to feel a button down cuff tighten up every time I extend my bridge hand or feel a tucked in shirt tug across my neck when I lean over the table.

Hey, as *****y as I get about the way people dress I'm with you 100% on this one. I sure as hell don't want any of those things either. With that said, if I'm in a tournament my minimum is a polo shirt. If I have to go with a button down shirt then I go short sleeve and I have a button extender for the collar so it doesn't choke the living sh!t outta me when I lean over the table. There are ways to be comfortable if you put the effort forth.

And you know, I'm not against people being comfortable at all. But no one can tell me that they are more comfortable in raggy, faded jeans with holes in them than a pair of clean jeans with no holes. Or a shirt that fits rather than being 3 sizes too big. And I'm sorry, but it's just poor manners to be wearing a ball cap inside regardless of if you're playing pool or not. And last but not least, no one can tell me they're more comfortable in a t-shirt splattered with profanities than a solid color t-shirt or something less offensive. I'm not a prude, anyone that knows me knows that my mouth is about as filthy as it gets. Every other word from me begins with F and there is no way you could ever say something so crude that it would offend me, trust me, I could top it, but I don't wear it on my chest for everyone to see.

I'm going to the pool hall tonight. I'm going to wear what I'm wearing now, black shorts and my Bengals jersey. It's not dressy at all, but everything is clean and it fits right.

If someone is wearing jeans that are faded, stained, and have holes in them there is a reason they are still being worn. People should be allowed to play in whatever is comfortable to them. Noone should be playing for the sake of the game but for their own enjoyment.

I first noticed this same thing at a Camel Pro Tour event in Olathe, Kansas years ago. Brought it up to the TD.

His reply: "when you live in your car..."

Sometimes what changes really stays the same.

Pool players ought to check out Little Joe. He is one dapper, clean cat. Always lookin goooooooood! :groucho:

If Pool Player to compete in tournament Play were REQUIRED to adhere to a Dress Code, Conduct, and Etiquette Code they might as well take up Golf, and become part of the PGA. Honestly I think a Dress Code with in REASON is a GREAT IDEA, and with in reason.

What is the worst thing that could come out of this? Maybe when potential Corporate America Sponsor were hit up by Pool Promoter for sponsorship the answer would be YES.

NASCAR went from were POOL is to big business with a Dress Code, Conduct, and Etiquette Code, maybe Pool should follow NASCAR example.:banghead:

What would that reason be, pray tell?? People cry and cry about the image pool presents to would be sponsors and the public in general about gambling but it's ok if the players want to look like slobs. The Joss Tour has had a dress code as far as I know since its beginning. The better tournaments I've been to in NYS always had dress codes, even some of the minor ones. You don't wear whatever you want to the US Open.
Since I moved to South Carolina I haven't been to one tournament in the state where the players dressed decently. Some do but most do not. Ball caps, often worn backward, baggy, over sized shorts and shirts, flip flops, jeans holier than the pope, etc. Nobody has to dress like a fashion plate but I'm with Mully on this. You can dress comfortably and still look decent, all you have to do is TRY!!
Where I played in Binghamton, NY there were many womens' tournaments and they always had a dress code.

Can't speak for others, but I'm dressed up in every league or tournament I play in during the week.

I go there right after work.

I work in a hospital.

I bet girls would wear shorts when they play too, but then they'd have to shave more often. It's just laziness that causes them to wear pants. Plus the fear of showing their butts when they stretch for a shot. Guys are all cool with that :D.

Every pro level tournament that's recorded on TV, here or overseas, has a dress code, so the comment really only has bearing on those action matches or local tournaments that people just show up to at a bar.

Pool uniforms. Thats what we need.

lol, I was waiting to see what you would come up with next. I gotta get me one of them :)
As someone has already pointed out pretty much all the major pro events have a dress code and so all we are actually talking about maybe is the local tourneys that are streamed. Am I right? If that is the case then who cares what they wear when they are at their local stop?
Look at my avitar, Team CSI in tournaments, exhibitions and clinics always wear the nice team shirts and slacks. So I hope we are not going to get arrested by the fashion police under the trendy act of 1985.

My thoughts about dressing nice is simple....The better I look, the better I feel. And as we all know, confidence goes a long way's.
Peace
Todd

but, a glance at any other sport -- well, let's admit bowling shirts are not exactly fashion-forward, and i'm not sure poker is really a sport? -- but other sports have uniforms or dress codes or at least a basement-level sense of style?

cheers! sunny

HEY, Charlie Sheen has done a lot to bring the lowly bowling shirt back into the public eye! Yeah Charlie!

Do the Butt Weights come installed?

Lets see.. other individual sports...

Golf - usually at a country club, and the tournaments have dress codes. Have seen plenty of concert t-shirts and shorts and flip flops on public courses.

BMX - No real dress code here.. Usually the clothing worn is for protection and sponsorship. Again.. in public places, no strict fashion statements being made.

Skate boarding - Protection and sponsorship again. Aside from that, I don't ever recall seeing a skate boarder wearing a collared shirt. Then again, you don't usually see 40 or 50 year olds out boarding. Yet......

So.... unless it's an organized event, that has sponsorship and some type of dress code, I really don't see what the big deal is. I've never measured someone's ability on what they're wearing. But that's just me.

Well if you are trying to attract sponsor to a event, and you show them typical people who would participate in the event who look like runaways from a homeless shelter. How much sponsorship will you attract?

Yea.. because that hasn't worked for X games at all...

It all depends on your demographic. Are you wanting to attract new young talent? Then get sponsors who will market to younger people.

Most sponsored tournaments have dress codes. All televised events have very specific dress codes already. What exactly are you wanting to change that will attract more sponsorship?

Yeah, but pool has a more sophisticated, diverse, and less rural clientele than NASCAR has :)

Maybe we should revert to the snooker dress code of the 1980s and all wear suits, waistcoats and bow-ties?

ponytail hit it on the head. the most popular sports amoung kids these days feature people who look exactly home less. and the sponsorship is huge. sponors don't care what the participants look like, they care how many people will see thier name. period. sean white looks like a freak and the sponsors flock to him. why? sure as hell not because of they way he dresses. he's good atr what he does and the kids flock to him.

Maybe we should try not to look like Panhandlers, and Street People.

Simple DRESS CODE like:

NO RIPPED OR TORN CLOTHING

T-shirts without the Word F***, or S*** on it. Or thing that are offensive.

Shirts with Collars

Jeans O.K. as long as they are not torn

Shoe & Socks, ( Tennis Shoes are O.K.) No Bare Feet, No Sandals, No Flip Flops.
