I REALLY like the sound of a ball slapping the back of a GC pocket,as opposed to the Diamond. This goes for the first 4 GC versions,I haven't seen a V in person yet. For me,this is better feedback on how well I hit it.

I haven't played on Diamonds very much, entirely because the closest ones are a 2 hour drive, but that also goes for the closest GC. Still,I have a LOT more experience playing on a GC.

It seems to me that a GC plays tougher/tighter than a Diamond does at roughly the same size and cut. As long as it doesn't spit out perfectly or well-hit shots down the rail,I'm happy. No particular preference here,I've seen tough as well as soft versions of both. That being said,I wouldn't order a Diamond with 4" or smaller pockets either.

Since the general comparison here is between 2 brands,I'd like to narrow my comparison to the Gold Crown and Diamond Pro,the 2 closest tables in each company's stable. I'd take a Pro-Am or Smart Table,or say a Brunswick Metro or Gibson,if someone was giving it to me,or would be more than happy to play there all I could if a new room were to open here with those tables. However,if I was spending my own money on it,my choices would be ONLY the Pro or GC.

If given a chance to buy an old GC or a used Diamond, the condition of the tables offered would be my measuring stick.

If I had the choice of a Diamond Pro or GC used at a tournament, the GC would more than likely be my choice, unless the Diamond light was included, making this a no-brainer.

Buying a brand-new table, there isn't a choice at all. Unless I'm mistaken, you can get the Pro,the light, and matching chairs installed for what the GC V retails for. Who on Earth would do that?

On quality of build, the Diamonds feel a lot more solid than the last GC IV's I played on.

Unless I can get a really nice late-model GC,or a GC I and have it restored for dramatically cheaper,I'll eventually order a Pro with the extras.

One question on the Pro,can you order it with the older-style rounded corner caps? Tommy D.

Yes, you can, but not with the Dymondwood finish, it has to be in the natural wood finish, as the Dymondwood can't be made to size up the rounded corner caps:)

But keep in mind though, I already have shown that if someone wants a ProAm, I can bring in the table completely dissasembled and set it up in ANY location that ANY other table can be installed in, using a 3 piece slate;) it just takes a little longer is all.

When we designed the Smart Tables at Diamond, we designed in the ability to disassemble the table as well. The reason was to be able to have the option of being able to pack in the table no different than any other table and reassemble it on location, rather than lose a sale. It's just that in the last 7 years or so, we haven't had to exercise that option as of yet, until I installed the 9ft ProAm with a 3 piece slate in Steve Duthie's house in Bellingham, WA. earlier this year;) Steve would have taken a Professional as a second choice, but I gave him the option of the ProAm with a 3 piece slate, and he accepted, case closed:D

That is a matter of opinion, and I disagree completely. IMO Diamonds look much better.

I'd have to agree with you. After shooting on a Diamond, I have fallen in love with them. If I had to buy a table it would be a 9 foot Diamond no doubt.

The RealKingCobra is the real deal....

Between the two i would suggest the Diamond.....I have an Olhausen 9 footer and love that...Also on any serious advice for a table listen to the Guru himself The Dahli Lama of pool tables "The RealKingCobra"..This guy is as good as it gets in the world..He is straight up with his answers and you can always count on him..we at AZ are very lucky and priviledged to have him post here...:)

If its size won't negotiate all the turns and corners that your HOME has..then get a table that will...thats all. Some thing just won't fit, my point being, make sure you can negotiate the obstacles before you purchase your table. If I were a car salesman I would'nt sell a VW bug to a 800 pound person for obvious reasons.

I said a one piece slate didn't I? No argument on 3 piece.

Island, I know and understand what you're saying about the one piece slate not fitting into some homes. All I'm trying to say is that if someone wants a ProAm, the issue of the slate shouldn't sour the sale, because that same table is versatile with a 3 piece slate, making it adaptable to any situation. I wouldn't recommend a one piece slate to anyone if it won't fit into the house, I mean...who would? But at the same time, why would I turn away a sale, or redirect it to another table if the customer had their heart set on a ProAm? Because they can't get the one piece slate in the house...they can't get the table in either? My only point is that this table is universal with either slate:)

This is a rhetorical question only as I'm not in the market for a table but: Could a person get a Diamond Pro with 1 piece slate?

Yes, it sure can:D but falls under the same restrictions as far as being able to be installed in the location as a ProAm;)

I think both tables play great. I have also played on both that played goofy. Brunswick play soft for the most part. Diamonds play more alive. I think Diamonds play almost too alive after a month but the rails play true.

Hi everyone i am sure this is probably a matter of personal preference in feel, but as an average player apa level 7 and am going to be starting to play in some joss and predator events in NY, what would be the better home table, a brunswick gold crown or a diamond professional or PRO AM table. I have heard mixed reports on both but after watching a lot of the accu stats dvds i have noticed the majority is played on diamonds. Any help would be huge.
If you want to simulate the average tournament condition you should go with what is played on the most: Diamond Pro or Pro-Am.

Personally, I prefer Diamond Pros in every aspect.

I don't play many big tournaments and most (90%) of the local ones I play in have GC's.

So your "average condition" probably isn't the same as everyone's.

Most of the tournaments I play in have Olhausens & Medalists, but I wouldn't trade my 9ft ProAm for anything! :D

Well, if your Diamond is a 7' Proam let me know. I have a 9' Gabriels that won't fit in my new house.

I agree, but I took from his post that he was going to be playing in the Joss and Predator events in his area and I believe those are played on Diamonds. I can't be 100% certain, though.
