I've never seen Busty so excited. I love seeing top class pool players get so pumped up when winning. I feel sorry for any player that plays in the same tournament Bustamante enters because simply winning this is going to pump him up to play better and his game will be unstoppable!!

Well, it does look like they were filming the event based on the camera guy. Maybe we will get to see some archived footage??? What a way to win it, btw.
 
IMO just a terrible way to win a world championship. I want to see the pressure shooting on the hill, the nerves, the actual meat and potatoes aspects of the game of pool. Instead we see a lucky roll on a 9-ball in the side off the break and miss what should have been a much more interesting and meaningful ending.

I am glad for Bustie, and it is not his fault the rules are the way they are. Just one more bad thing to go along with the countless others in this event and a example of why 9-ball itself is so flawed.

This is Bustamante we're talking about, he would of ran it anyways. He was just doing Kuo a favour by ending his misery alittle quicker. It's 9 ball, you don't like it then don't watch it or play it. If there's money to be won in it then the top players will play it regardless of the luck or how flawed it is to play.

I could understand Kuo being pretty upset if it was hill hill....

i think it was a very very meaningful ending for bustie rather it was 9 on the break or runout but i do no what u mean
 
I am SO glad that they did have TV there to film it. Looks the venue for the finals was a decent setup with a nice crowd.

I would have been so sad to know that Django's first world title wasn't filmed professionally.

The chances of ever seeing this in the USA are almost zero. The networks here rarely buy any pool shows and if they do it is edited to oblivion. Usually you will see the last couple of racks of a match. Meanwhile the rest of the world sees the entire match. We'll have to rely on Youtube. :)

I'm 93% sure about this, but not 100%. Funny things happen under pressure. I can't forget 2007. WPC semi final against Daryl Peach where he lost position on the white badly because he refused to use the mechanical bridge. And then he fouled his kick shot on 3 ball, contacting the 9 first which went in. That was his last shot. He even tried to influence the referee to reverse his decision...
 
I am sure that Busty was VERY VERY VERY happy not to have to run any more balls after that 9 went in.

Who cares really? His record over the span of the whole event shows that in the final 64 he was the best player.

Johnny on the other hand lagged behind a lot of his matches and had to play catch up. Most of his matches were close. Kuo also wasn't as dominant as Busty was.

The right player won and snapping in the nine in the hill game was the icing on the cake.

In fact, whoever recorded it was sitting in the alps in the bleechers next to Ralph Souquet. :wink:
 
Generally I'm in favor of rules and games that give the edge to the more skilled player of the moment,however in this final,considering what this may have meant to Bustamante,I have to ask myself would there have been this emotional,genuine,spontaneous reaction if it had ended on a run out.

Coming from a player that's seen a lot of life through his career,this was a wonderful celebration and interaction with the crowd at the end.No one who was there to witness it will ever forget it.After watching the video,I wont.

I hope our friends from the Middle East will somehow provide us more video from this tournament,especially of Bustamante.I want to see his determination.
 
There has been criticism of the Qatari promoters, mostly justified. But they must be commended for their decision to stand up to thr WPA by insisting that Francisco and Efren be included in the Stage 2 field. Without their resolve one of the games greatest ambassadors would not have been able to enjoy his special moment. Bravo QBSF!
 
If anything I think it was fabulous that he won like this... arguably the worlds hardest breaker makes the 9 to win his first world title. I LOVE the 9 ball on the break rule because I always break em hard and feel It's a reward for hard breakers, I don't like the cut or soft break and refuse to use it. Not that I have a problem with anyone else using it, so I should be rewarded when I hammer the break hard and make the 9 every now and then. The same way they get rewarded by soft breaking to a science. JMO.

Wow! That was brilliant. I really enjoyed the picture slide show. Man, I've got post-WPC fever. I will never get any work done today. I'm still excited about Bustamante winning. :grin-square:

They must be freezing their butts off in Qatar. The temperature right now is 32 degrees C. Yikes! :o

I noticed the logo for this event in Doha. This is cool-looking! I like it! :)

I'm happy that Busta finally got his first "world" title. Long overdue, for a future hall of famer.

On a side note, his opponent, Kuo Po Cheng, is, IMO, one of the great underrated Taiwanese players. FWIW, this is Kuo's SECOND, second place finish at the WPC (I believe he finished second to Wu Chia Ching, after being on the hill and having Wu run a 5 and out).

About time for Busti...my dog is also named Django so I'll give him an extra treat today to celebrate.

32 celsius is about 90 F so I think the Filipinos, and JA, were probably right at home.
