CA$H Cues - Tommy's Contact Info

John, how many times have you been banned?

Seems to me you have a lot to say, despite your having issue with our rules.

People are always quick to talk. I've been here doing what I do for a very long time and there have always been a few who would love to volunteer me to do more at the current rate and are just as quick to complain it things are not seen their way.

Would you care to compare what you've given to AZB with myself?

Cash cue values going thru the woooof

I think all this mumbo jumbo is making the value of real "actually made and delivered" Cash cues soar........

At least I hope. I have one and it really is a great cue. I feel bad for all my fellow AZR's that have been ripped off its just darn wrong.

I am not comparing myself to you in terms of contributions to AZB. I think you do a hard job and have a lot on your plate. Too much in my opinion. I am actually suggesting things to LIGHTEN the burden you complain about.

I have been banned three times. So what? I should have been banned a lot more than that for all the times I have gone off on people. By the same token many others should have been banned for the offenses they committed against me as well and they weren't. This is a red herring and has nothing whatsoever to do with the discussion. The only possible link is the fact that you are quite selective about how you APPLY the rules and this is well known and has been admitted by you publicly. Which is fine, when the rules are broken then it's your call as what you decide to do. The answer is easy for anyone who doesn't want to be at your mercy, don't break the rules and give you reason to apply your inconsistent consideration.

But since you brought it up about who contributes "more" to AZB..... I do. You may be the cop who keeps some kind of order but I am one of the people who provides content that keeps people reading. I join in many discussions and offer my insight based on my experience in this industry. When people do searches on cases and case repairs, jump cues, pool in China, pool in Germany, being on the road, gambling at pool, industry stuff, etc.... they will find thoughtful reporting from me and sometimes lively discussion. I, along with all the other ACTIVE "guests" as you call us, provide the content for the mass of non-contributing visitors to consume. Without people like me this place would be a ghost town with no advertisers.

Don't believe me? Go to any other pool themed forum and compare their traffic with what's here. Drive the top 50 posters away from AZB and watch what happens. Sure the loss of any single poster doesn't mean much, but the loss of many good ones means a lot. You seem to care little based on the way you communicate to us "guests" about how little we matter. But the fact is that those of us who have been here a while have seen the decline of good content by the fact that many great writers have chosen to stay away or reduce their participation to a tiny fraction of what it was. This is partially due to your brand of moderation which can be summed up as confusing. The fact that you have allowed vicious flame wars to dominate the front page has forced people to simply go away. The fact that you take threads and simply make them disappear because a few people got testy and in the process wipe out TONS of good and thoughtful posts is a huge turnoff and teaches the good writers to not bother in the future when their contributions can be wiped out so easily.

So which of us has contributed more to AZB? I have. I provide good content and you drive good posters away. You subtract from AZB's pool of good contributors.

I don't really care if your "job" is hard or burdensome. You do it voluntarily as you have let us all know frequently. Maybe you deserve an award. I don't want your job. Dealing with drama queens like me must be a real pain in the ass. But the fact is that many people don't like the way you do your job. That's life. If you volunteer to be a moderator on a busy forum then you are at the nexus of drama. I offered up suggestions to reduce that burden and make AZB MORE attractive to more people as a marketplace with some safeguards in place IS more attractive.

So please, don't try to make this about me. It's about the fact that when members get screwed financially by other members the moderation on this forum, to include you, Mike and Jerry, are not especially willing to step in and moderate the dispute. It's about whether you SHOULD do so and if so then HOW to do it.

......and there is the root.

We ( AZB ) are not involved with the sales and schemes of the buyers and sellers on this forum. There is no commission or other motivation to become more deeply involved with people's dealings.

There are multiple leagal avenues that someone who feels wronged can take.

Maybe I'm off base here, but I doubt anyone is ranting up the TV station or newspapers because they got screwed by someone that they chose to deal with from having seen an ad or other from their source.

When we feel compelled, We act.

You are right, this is the root. And the point is that there are other avenues that could help to make THIS marketplace better and safer, apparently maintaining a certain sense of safety for your guests isn't compelling enough for you. I say you Dave because I believe that Mike and Jerry whose interest is financial to a point are concerned enough to consider alternatives to the status quo.

AzBilliards (and this forum) have become so much more than I ever expected that it would. John knows this more than quite a few of you as I have considered John a friend in this industry for many years and he remembers the early days.

When I started this site, I never expected it would be what it is today.

With that in mind, I am interested in anything that we can do to make this site provide a better service to the industry in any way possible.

Mike

If that's the case then you should reel in Mr Wilson. His attitude doesn't help, he does nothing to help anyone who is wronged. I think if he's around nothing will change.

So macho of you to adopt a new handle to slam a mod. If you have an opinion, why not stand up like a man and voice it instead of creating a new handle to hide behind?

Thanks

Kevin

Snip . . .
I know Antfarm was asking for all the people who paid deposits or sent their cue/shaft to Hangem High to get with him so he could open a case. It seems to me like the local law enforcement could pay him a visit at his house if enough people reported him as taking money from them and not fulfilling his obligation for the payment received. It seems there would be enough circumstantial evidence with the guys paypal address coinciding with the home address that was listed to at least peak the authorities interest some.
Snip...

If there is a consolidated list of names and complaints, maybe someone should contact DMGWalsh here, who is a lawyer, and may be able to assist with a class action law suit. Maybe a certified letter from a lawyer showing the intent to file suit will be enough to lure this worm from underground.

Kevin,

I would bet it's because the time he stood up "like a man" caused his original and established account to be banned. So he keeps coming back to make his feelings known.

I see it as frustration and some old wounds being reopened. Apparently there is some history there between this person and Mr. Wilson regarding another transaction with Hangemhigh that didn't sit well with the person on the receiving end of the deal with Hangemhigh.

I think that this thread has also gotten out of hand. It's brought up a few important issues that we as a community need to think about and help Mike to build a safer Wanted/For Sale section with perhaps some clearer rules and clearer guidelines for escrow.

The fact is that those who were wronged by Tommy should file charges and see to it that something is done. The money is gone but perhaps if the story gets out that you ARE NOT SAFE running away with the money taken from AZers then it will make future would-be absconders a bit more hesitant.

I have many ideas that would help I think. I am sure many of you do as well and we should start another thread to discuss it. Leave it be is not really an option as this happens far too often.

We can assume all sorts of reasons that fit our agenda to justify the poster's cowardly actions. Myself, I assume he posted like that because he hasn't bought enough stuff from me.

The Tommy situation is unique, I can't think of another like him (perhaps you can?). He was a long-time respected poster here with loads of transactions and numerous happy clients and then he just went south. I'm not sure there's a "cure" for that one single unique situation, and changing how we operate in order to prevent that one happenstance might be a little knee-jerk.

I also don't think its the mods' responsibility to police the for sale forums. We as a community do that, although perhaps our rule of not knocking a users' For Sale thread prevents this somewhat? Its not like it is the AZ Billiards Store. AZ benefits in no way from our sales and yet they provide a (pretty much) free and a without fees way for many of us (including yourself and certainly myself) to conduct business, locate buyers and hawk our goods. I, for one am way grateful for that.

Myself, I buy some 30K worth of stuff a month on the internet, mostly from people I don't know, and I have never lost a penny (outside of buying something for more than I could sell it for , which I do some). I have my own rules for how I do it and I've shared those rules here (out of a sense of community) and largely been ignored. If a buying situation doesn't match my rules, I act like it doesn't exist and pass and move on.

That being said, if Barry Szamboti told me he had a spot open up and I could have it if I sent him a 1K deposit, he'd have that money so fast it would make his head spin, and fronting money out I can't recover or reverse is against my rules. So unique situations do take place.

Almost all of the "rip-offs" I've read about here at AZ could have prevented had the buyer acted with my rules (or the mods' suggestion that we escrow ((which I don't)). I'm just not sure more rules are the answer. I think more common sense is. As far as creating a legislative state in order to protect those with little common sense? As a person that feels I have a lot of common sense, dealing with those types of regulations always rubs me the wrong way.

Now THERE'S some RANDOM thoughts for you.

Thanks

Kevin

PS : Whoops more random stuff. What this about hangemhigh being Engles Cases ?....Aren't (weren't ?) Engles Cases high-quality and respected?

You lost me on this one. Sometimes the voice of dissent is anonymous for a reason.

Actually, the prevention comes in the form of knowing that legal action in the form of police reports and civil suits will be filed. When people see other people get screwed over all the time and nothing happens to the one doing the screwing then it's no deterrent. I think that once a person becomes and established seller then that person should have their accurate information on file with the site.

Plus I am not suggesting we change how we operate because of this situation. I am suggesting we change how we do things because of many such situations.

I also don't think its the mods' responsibility to police the for sale forums. We as a community do that, although perhaps our rule of not knocking a users' For Sale thread prevents this somewhat? I disagree. I think that the for sale forum SHOULD be moderated and the mods should be people who are there all the time whose reps are beyond reproach. There should be three of them and they should mediate disputes and their word should be final or the parties can take their dispute offline and fight out in court or whatever.

AZB benefits from the traffic. They sell banner ads that are based on impressions. The more times a user clicks on posts then the more times an ad is shown to them. A lively classifieds section brings in visitors and it brings in visitors who just search on google for pool related items and who aren't active members. That's a win for AZB and the advertisers.

Myself, I buy some 30K worth of stuff a month on the internet, mostly from people I don't know, and I have never lost a penny (outside of buying something for more than I could sell it for , which I do some). Well, being sensible is certainly each person's responsibility. You obviously have a lot more experience than most of the people transacting here. But where would one find your rules? I have never seen them. The point there is that as far as I know there is no way to access them easily. Good stuff like that is just lost in the volume of posts.

That being said, if Barry Szamboti told me he had a spot open up and I could have it if I sent him a 1K deposit, he'd have that money so fast it would make his head spin, and fronting money out I can't recover or reverse is against my rules. So unique situations do take place.

Of course. That is a risk worth taking.

As a person that feels I have a lot of common sense, dealing with those types of regulations always rubs me the wrong way.

As you said there isn't much you can do about a person who simply disappears after doing so well for so long. I wasn't necessarily suggesting we need more rules. But perhaps some STRONGER guidelines to include your experience would be helpful with also some better moderation in the section. I think you would have to agree that the average person wouldn't even see your rules. I am in the WFS section many times a day and I have never seen them.

I just think that there ought to be a few tweaks that don't allow for people to be semi-anonymous and yet transacting for thousands of dollars a month using AZB as their platform. Some ID verification ought to be present in some form. Sellers who do a certain number of sales ought to become club members. There should be a directory of sellers with accurate contact information listed.

Then it's much easier to separate the wheat from the chaff. And MAYBE there SHOULD be a knocking secton of the WFS forum where people CAN complain about things being offered. Maybe in that forum people can refer to a for sale thread and describe why they have a problem with it and let it be discussed. Then if people want to check there they can and if they don't and they buy the offending item it's on them. Obviously if I am offering up items for sale at the flea market I don't want people standing in front of my booth knocking my stuff but I can't prevent them from standing at the corner and doing it for anyone who will listen. To me this can really backfire on the knockers if they can't make a logical case.

I say live by the sword and die by the sword. If you want to use the free message board to sell your stuff then be prepared to be knocked if there is something wrong with your offer. If you can defend your offer then it should be no problem. I am kind of on the fence about this one but in general I think people should be free to express their opinions as long as they aren't just being jerks and lying to make a point.

Anyway this thread is now TOTALLY hijacked.

Hope Tommy resurfaces and makes it all good.

You guys should not worry about who is and isn't banned.

Since it is so valid to the conversation, it is master9baller who is permanently banned. this is just the latest of his FL like incarnations.

PS : Whoops more random stuff. What this about hangemhigh being Engles Cases ?....Aren't (weren't ?) Engles Cases high-quality and respected?

Sam Engles absconded many years ago with the deposits of many customers.

Well, the story is that he went to jail and so being in jail he couldn't make good on the case orders. He stole $800 dollars from Roy Malott among others.

Then when Hangemhigh appeared on AZB he seemed to always be finding mint condition Engles cases to sell. Now it's TOTALLY plausible that being from the same area he found these cases residing with local buyers and purchased them for resale on AZB. BUT many buyers reported that the cases they got had the new glue smell on them indicating that the cases had been freshly made.

Couple that with the address overlaps of Sam Engles and Tommy Hindeman and there appears to be some strong connection there. Plus Tommy was selling the Fellini latches and knew an awful lot about case making.

So definitely something going on there. Whether Tommy is Sam who knows?

I don't mind highjacking this thread, after all where is it going now?

I had thought about that ID verification thing (maybe before one can sell or sell at a volume or whatever), but would that have avoided the hangemhigh situation? I mean, I assume he has completely ditched his last known blah blah blah. He if was verified 4 years ago, I'm guessing that maybe that wouldn't do much good now. I don't know, maybe it would be valuable to have a solid starting point at tracking someone. I do know that plenty of people (at AZ included) rail against PayPal's verification procedures as being "invasions of privacy" so I don't know how well that would go over here. Me ?

How about someone explain how AZB is supposed to protect people without becoming liable for the losses.

There is rampant ID theft already. Who and how would you proof out this equation?

Should I add....for free?

Here is what I think about the Tommy thing. He did build up a lot of trust and so it's realy weird that he dropped out because he did invest a lot of time being a fairly good person to deal with.

BUT

There should be a freaking way to reach out and touch these people who go awol with other people's money and product.

Sadly, there is no real good way to do this yet.

Tommy rips you off for $3000 and you live in the same town you can file a police report, you can go to court, you can stake out his house, garnish his wages, get a lien against his property, etc..... but if you are a state or a country away you are just about screwed and HE KNOWS IT.

That ultimately is the problem. The solution is probably bigger than any online marketplace can solve. It needs to be that if you rip someone off and they can prove it enough to merit a arrest warrant then an arrest warrant is put out and you are subject to arrest. Then we need internet court that handles the case spanning the world. And if you are found guilty then you go to jail.

Right now no one goes to jail for defrauding buyers on forum marketplaces like this. They just disappear and come back later under a new handle.

If he ripped me off for 3K I would dispute the charge to PayPal with the credit card company I paid him with, get my money back, be done with him and on to the next. He doesn't take my PayPal I can't deal with him and I'm on to the next.
