Carolina Women's Billiard Classic

girlwon1 checking in...

Hi everyone!

Thanks for watching my progress through the tournament!

It is midnight here and thought I would check up on my email and this forum before I catch some zzzz's before my match time of noon tomorrow.

The first match was terrible against Laura. I played very scared, and it was wearing on me that I couldn't play like I know how. The next match against Jane started the same way. I then just said to myself, if you really think you can be a champion, and you belong here, then you need to stop fearing pulling the trigger, and playing this game right now. So, then I opened up, quit being afraid, and have played pretty well after that. It is a matter of seasoning this tournament and probably a couple more folks, but I will adjust and get there.

I play Romana Dokovic tomorrow. I beat her at the Nationals but I watched her play, and she is playing well. She almost beat Karen just the match before, but didnt get there. I feel good, and will do the best I can.

Just checking in with all of you!

Being able to have this kind of outlook on things is one of the reasons you had such a good year IMO. It takes a healthy, positive outlook to excel in anything and so long as you continue to play and you continue to use your brain like this to keep you in check.... you should have no problem not only continuing your success but also improving upon it.

Keep it up, we've got your back. ;)

Prize Money

Total Purse here is $108,400! First prize 16K! I still think they should only pay half the field and not 48 players. That's an extra $11,200 going to
33-48. A player should not get in the money by winning one match.
Either way, it kind of puts the UPA Tour to shame.
The WPBA purses keep going up every year. They are definitely going in the right direction.

Well done Tina!
Being able to pull oneself out of the fear trap is a sign of a potential winner. It means you can get out of the game what you put into it.

Cheering you on to play again with courage and confidence tomorrow:D

What's up with updating the brackets? They do a horrible job with this. Johnnyt

I agree! Thank goodness we have people like John there to keep us updated! As I sit here, it's almost noon on Saturday, and they still haven't put up Friday night's results.

I think they pay the lower half of the field because of-
1) Not many tournament opportunities for women.
2) Many independent womens events don't want the pros competing.
3) The ladies are excluded from competing in many events because of either the "mens only " attitude or an unwillingness by the event organizers to get WPBA sanctioning.
4) Most of the WPBA events take place at casinos where even with player discounts the room rates are killer.
5) Not paying the lower half of the field would likely result in many players giving up on playing....at least in the WPBA.

In short there are few opportunities for women to make a living playing pool and the aim of the WPBA has always been the promotion of womens billiards. They wouldn't be very good at promoting womens billiards if half the women on their tour found themselves financially unable to compete.

The problem in the past has been that one person was responsible for the updates and also keeping track of the tournament scores, setting up the matches and keeping the players informed, taking care of pics and etc, etc. In recent years that was I believe Kelly Oyama.
This is probably still the case this year. One person having to many jobs to juggle. Some of the players help out I think ...when they can.Not sure who is handling all these things this year.

Jennifer Barretta won her match last night against Wendy Jans.
Tracie Hines was down 8 to 5 but came back to beat Melissa Morris 9 to 8.
Jennifer Chen lost a very close match with Kelly Fisher. The score was either 9 to 8 or 9 to 7.

Thanks, Richard!

Do you know who Jennifer and Xiaoting will play against in losers side?

As we know form Tina Pawlowski's post, Saturday's play is already underway.

I wonder what the WPBA is thinking. The quality of its pool product is, at least partly, dependent on the quality of its website, which is way behind right now in offering results of its event in progress.

Men's pool is, for the first time in memory other than the WPC, offering more up-to -date information on tournament in progress results than women's pool.

We all followed last week's Joss Tour Championship match by match last weekend with joy and enthusiasm. The online tournament brackets were updated almost constantly.

The IPT is always attentitve to keeping its website up to date with respect to result of torunaments in progress.

If the WPBA wishes to stand alone as the one pro pool organziation not giving a top priority to keeping its fans in the loop with respect to torunament results, I guess that's their right, but they are watching the competition go right by them in this aspect of customer service.

Yes, those of us who frequently visit WPBA.com are customers of the WPBA.

Hi, guys

I'm so glad to know you all!

I have become a major 9-ball reporter in China, since Xiaoting Pan went to the US to play WPBA qualifiers this January. Most updated reports about Xiaoting Pan's matches were written by me.

Hope you guys can always post the latest news of Xiaoting Pan here on the AZB. I will write articles and post them on the web, so that many fans of Xiaoting Pan in China can know how she's getting along in the US. Thanks a lot!

Cheers!

More updates...

I just lost my match to Romana. I played well at the beginning, got that doubtful feeling, and started to shudder. I pulled myself out of that (I talk to myself alot!) and then felt good, but then played too fast. I hit a slightly off angled 7 too straight, and then missed an off angle 8 ball to come down for the 9. I was thinking to myself before I shot the 8 that this is the ball I missed yesterday, and missed it in practice that morning. I was thinking that while I was down on it! Sure enough, I missed it the same way as before. You can bet I will own that shot when I get home. I had the opportunity to get better on that shot before the match, and chose not to. I wont do that again.

When I left, Tiffany and Helena were 5,4. Darlene Stinson and Miyuki were the same. I didnt see Val and her opponent's score. After this round and then next time slot, will determine the final 16. They get then redrawn to the winners side.

I got 17th. I got 1500 for my efforts. I will do better next time. I really feel good about all the things I developed this time out that I haven't in tournaments past.

Thanks again!

Tina Pawloski
