CJ, all along you have been reiterating these points. Will anything will change if you say them one more time.

As if either of these 2 players or any of the 8, haven't played under any of these conditions previously. Both players, not just one are playing under the exact same conditions.

You're acting as if this is something brand new to any of them. Hardly.

You should check your Family Tree as I am almost certain that there is a Barton Branch hiding in there.

It has taken me a long time but I am just getting to understand your humor. You are a pretty funny man.

awwww, that's sweet...!

CJ is right “No one went to Philadelphia looking to play Mike Lebron for big money......”

The only story I could find was about Kid Delicious . Mike had a regular day job and didn't start playing tournaments until he was over 50.

Steve Wynn and his father had ties to the Genovese crime mafia that used to hang around the 24 hour Boulevard social and billiard club. How many of the 11 big bets were place by folks from the east coast?

BHR, I checked your family tree and it turned out to be a cactus. Everyone on it was a P rick.

What can I say, Good one, ya got me.

Hey, I like a good Conspiracy Theory like many others. When you look at it this way, who is to say that Buddy didn't also know this, or maybe he was given a subtle warning. "Buddy, it would be in your best interests not to win". Who knows.

Maybe that can account for his not normal nervousness at the table. A guy can play and lose for 50K but playing for your life or a perceived threat would have a totally different affect. I would be lying if I said that I wouldn't be myself under those circumstances.

Not saying that I subscribe to this theory but I am sure worse things have been said around gambling matches where large amounts of money were at stake.

Money has nothing to do with it. Those guys all play for the love of the game!

Man cannot live by Love alone. Actually costs alot of Money to do that.

Give us this day, our daily Bread.

And that is exactly why God got the Wonder Bread contract.

It was a close race with Pepsico and KFC. But, it just didn't sound right, Give us this day, our daily Chicken.

I think so too. I have more ancestors in the UK than I now do in North America. So, maybe just natural inbred but I have always loved English Humor. Maybe my humor is
a cross between Canadian and British. A couple of cousins left over here but a ton in the UK. Thats on my Bucket List soon.

Hate to admit it but cheering for the Mosconi Cup is a bit tough. As much as I love the American Team and wish them well, there is a part of my Roots that also feels the need to cheer for the Europeans.

I do know that there is one Brit left on AZ that pretty much doesn't like my brand.

Oh well, can't be in love with everyone, I always say.

Yes, those conditions do create parity. The table brand and playing characterictics were not typical to say the least. Sometimes the lesser player can even have an advantage on unfamiliar cloth, rails, polished balls, short races, TV cameras in your line of sight, unfamilar lighting, etc.

And yes, I would say 20/1 is very unusual in a tournament with all bone fide Champion players.....like it or lump it MIKE LEBRON was a Champion by all definitions....gambling and tournaments as well. No one went to Philadelphia looking to play Mike Lebron for big money......even me.

So, by that logic, would you be willing to play SVB -even up- if we could find the right table with unfamiliar cloth, rails and lighting, polish the balls, and stick cameras all over?

CJ probably will when the Planets are all aligned with a TOI.

When the cue ball is in the seventh house
And the eight aligns with nine.
Then TOI will guide the balls
And TOI will steer the stars
This is the dawning of the age
of a TOI, the age of TOI
TOI, TOI.

Or perhaps this will happen first!

The biggest bet was $200. so it must have been the mafia (or worse)

The biggest bet was $200. so it must have been the mafia (or worse).......who else would bet that magnitude of money in Las Vegas......maybe it was Howard Hughes?

How is it you know that the biggest bet was $200?

Did the casinos readily disclose to the players and their friends the amount of very bet they took?

Thread FAQ

This thread has now gotten so large that nobody even bothers reading it anymore, so the same questions keep coming up.

1. "Why didn't Hall miss the seven instead of the combination?

He was trying to scratch in the side. Watch the video, please.

2. "How can we know what the highest bet was?"

Bet was capped by the casino at maximum 200 dollars. Odds on LeBron to win were 20 to 1. Apparently, 11 such bets were made (not sure if that is accurate, but that is what is being claimed)

3. "Did the fix stop casinos from making lines on pool games?"

Opinion is divided on the subject. Mr. Wiley thinks it didn't, everyone else thinks it did.

4. "Why should we believe a bunch of anonymous posters claiming the match was fixed?"

You shouldn't. Watch the video and believe your eyes. If they tell you it's not a fix, throw them away and get new ones ..or never, ever bet on pool (seriously, your judgement is off!) If that doesn't do it for you, believe Jay Helfert, the referee and one of the most repected people on this forum. He thinks it was a fix as does several others in the know.

5. "Did the dump contribute to the downfall of pool?"

Nobody knows the exact impact, and we likely never will. The timing was pretty bad, on that I think most people are in agreement

CJ already said he would play SVB 9 ball in LA. Said he would play him even with 2/1 on the money posting 5G's a set.

Also said they have only played once, even, and CJ was down, got back to 0 and SVB quit to play someone else for less money.

I want to see this happen and will take a trip to watch it, but i don't see anyone getting SVB to play him.

Hopefully it's being worked on.

Sometimes when a top 5 player goes off at 20 to 1 it might be a conspiracy. The only way to beat Mike Lebron was to keep him in his chair as Earl found out. Did you know they give out 2 for 1 coupons in Las Vegas?

Sorry, but "playing even" and "playing even with 2/1 on the money" aren't the same.

I seriously doubt that SVB, or anyone else in the current top 20 would hesitate playing CJ today EVEN (I.e. no spot and no odds on the money) playing any game with contemporary rules.

PolarBear,

Just which part of this bet don't you fully understand??? Even is even. Even does not mean getting 2:1 on the money.

All I know is I offer guys 2:1 on the money to play me even in 9 ball and I haven't been able to get anyone to play me.

Guess I'm not offering it to the right people?

SVB is such a world beater and CJ is just a washed up has been, I didn't even consider the 2:1 odds adding any pressure to the "top pros".

Like I said, I guess you don't understand the bet. Playing even is playing even. No odds given by either player to the other.
